JBL NSP-1 speakers vs. Onkyo 494

Robert - While the VE or Avia would be the preferred software, I used the THX Optimode that was on my X-Men DVD (also found on other Fox Studio DVDs) and used the techniques Phil has on his site. I found this to be adequate for my use and it made a big difference after I finished.

JBL NSP-1 speakers vs. Onkyo 494

I have this same arrangement with the SAWM-40 sub and it is great. I too thought it was going to be underpowered with the Onkyo 494, but calibrating it with an SPL meter made all the difference.

    Sub Placement

I have the Sony SAMW-40 Sub and have had to place it the back corner of my family room. I have it angled to point at the back wall at 45 degree angle. Is this right? The Mummy Returns...the end of rental OAR?

There are other avenues besides HV & BB. Since I got my DVD player last year I have not entered one of those stores to rent my DVDs. I've used NetFlix (bad) and rentmydvd.com (great) and with few problems. In fact for as many as movies I rent a month it is cheaper than the B&M stores, more...

Immediate help please: Need a $30-$60 subwoofer cable in 12 hours

You should be able to get the 20' of RG-6 from the Shack for a very cheap price - under $10 - and then buy (2) F to RCA male adapters - $2.99 or less. This will take 5 minutes to assemble and the sound quality is great. I did this and am very satisfied with the results.

    Coaxial or Optical Differences

Please excuse the dumb newbie question . . . I am in the process of upgrading my receiver from an old JVC prologic to a new Onkyo. The old receiver does not have either a coaxial or optical input for my DVD player, only RCA inputs. The Onkyo has both. Is there a difference between the two...
