What about LEDs? They are inexepensive, come in many colors and can be very bright. Radio shack should have some. I've seen them used alot to light up the edge of glass like that. Shouldn't be too hard to do.
Chris, the 1/4" will definitely work. That's what my rack has, and it supports a Denon 3802 just fine. If you are going to put a TV on top, I would go with thicker for the top, but if not, go 1/4" all the way.
Also call other glass shops to make sure you are getting the best price you can.
I would not use the 1/4" plate glass. You need to use tempered glass. It is stronger and if it breaks, it won't break into shards that could cut you in half. Also you will need to finish the edges so you don't slice any fingers open. You could probably do this with some sandpaper. I think...
Bill,
Where did you get your aluminum? Can you get it prefinished (polished or brushed)? I found a few places online with pretty good prices, but I was just wondering where you got yours.
Chris, if you need some help with AutoCAD, let me know. That's all I do all day! :D I would not try to draw it as a solid if you want to accurately measure angles and such. Just draw plan and section views so you can dimension and take accurate measurements. If you draw a solid, AutoCAD won't...
Jaun,
I will use an IR extender with just a small eye in the door itself. Plus its hard to bend glass to a curve :D . I also wanted all the equipment hidden because all the lights are distracting during a movie. I've put a few more shots on my site. Just click in the Signature.
This is what I plan to build. The cabinet on the right holds all of the equipment and rotates on casters for easy access to the back. The shelf under the TV shelf is for the center channel. The vertical poles are aluminum pipe and the rest is birch plywood.

I will post pictures later tonight if I can. I don't know how they will turn out though, because the texture is pretty subtle. I will try though.
I found an excellent black "undercoating" for my sub. It's Rustoleum, and I can't remember exactly what its called, but its a rubber coating spray. Its kinda the same stuff that you would dip tools handles in, except its a spray and not as thick. I tried it out last night, and the finish...
It looks like Jasper audio raised the prices on all their jigs. Now the 300 model is 45.99! Didn't it use to be around 35? Does anyone sell this for any cheaper? I can't see spending over $50 for a piece of plastic with holes in it. Thanks.
I need some maple veneer for my soon to be new sub enclosure. My local hardwood place quoted me $63 for a 4x8 sheet. Is there any place online to get a better deal? Thanks.
Haha, no not ports, just a temporary resting spot for the legs. I think it will blend in well once I run the cable under the floor and finish it.

I'm going to finish it with some maple veneer to match the other living room furniture. Hopefully I'll be able to start that in the next week or so.

Ignore the look of the site, I am in the process of changing it around. I got about halfway there and ran out of time.
Anyways, follow the link to see pictures of the monster: http://www.themiddletons.net/cgi-bin...Home%20Theater
Let me know what you think.

You could probably use some galvanized pipe or something to hide the wires. You would have to drill holes at each shelf, but that is the only thing I can think of that would be strong enough to hold the rack up and be hollow.

For the EBS plans, don't go by the cut list. The drawings are correct and you should only use those. Except the hole diameter for the 4" flared port should be 6.25" instead of 6.75". I confirmed with Dan Wiggins that the cut lists are wrong and the drawings are what should be followed. Hope...
Well, if you were trying to get under a 2' cube, then the EBS would be fine. Be aware though that a 2' cube is alot bigger than you might think. Make one out of cardboard or something to see how big it really is, and if it will look ok in your room (if that is a factor for you). But if your...
If you want something with small footprint, I don't know if the EBS box is what you want. I just finished building one, and it is a MONSTER! I have it in a corner, but my room is fairly small and it looks big. It does sound excellent though.

Kyle,
She only said that because we have to listen to it turned way down, or we would break every window in the house! She likes it and doesn't mind the huge box sitting in the corner. I even told her she could put some plants on top, as long as they don't leak. Anyways, what do I need to...
All I have to say is WOW. It is so loud and clean, and even impressed my girlfriend, who was skeptical from the beginning. We have a pretty small living room right now, so it is turned down really low, but even like that we felt like the T-Rex in Jurrasic park was right outside. It shook the...
