I think the Wii will see more than the others' (360 + PS3) share of kiddie games but I think (hope?) that this will be balanced by developers wanting to do something different and try something new. In my mind, the big question is whether these different games will be exciting and fun or...
I saw this Saturday night and I just haven't been able to shake my apathy towards the film. It was neither terrible nor great but mediocre - as if Singer, and Co., afraid to break anything, played it too close to the vest and thus robbed the film of any power. None of the main...
Have you ever watched a scene in a film that didn't pull you in emotionally or cinematically and so you find your mind wandering, picking over details, examining rather than participating? I think this is exactly what happened to Ebert.
What I don't understand is this: if they want to go back to a time when the galaxy was a rough and tumble sort of place, then do it. Why not create a new franchise around a new captain and crew instead of rehashing the originals? Of all the decisions they could have made, they took the least...
Thanks for the review. I hope to check it out over the weekend. I loved Hackman's Luthor but I hoped Spacey could bring some Swimming With Sharks energy to it. Looks like it was a better marriage on paper than on the screen. Oh, well.
Everybody's got opinions. There's no law that we have to agree with them. I do find it a bit stunning how people make it out like Ebert's is the only negative review. At RottenTomatoes, the meter is hanging in at 79% right now which indicates that at least a few critics besides Ebert weren't...
Chris, The way I read it, it is the lack of cinematic oomph to the scene that Ebert objects too. That and a sameness to all of Superman's feats - he lifts things, planes, rocks etc., but it doesn't appeal as much as the more complicated actions that Spiderman and Batman pulled off in their...
I like Ebert's reviews myself. He reviews a film against what it is trying to accomplish. Therefore, if he feels like the remake of The Omen does better at what it is trying to do than Superman Returns does at what it is trying to do, he'll rate them accordingly. Maybe that makes his reviews...
I'd rather not see a re-boot. It would be one thing if the character appeared already old (as in Obi-Wan) which leaves alot of room for a younger actor to fill in but Shatner has filled the role from young up through the entire arc of Kirk's career. Why can't they go where they haven't gone...
I got a big kick out of it. I think the Monarch's attempts to break out of the big house will be a constant subplot for the season. As for the opening credits, I think it was a psych-out, and a good one. I kept thinking What the heck are they doing? through the whole thing. The diminutive...
I liked the premiere but I thought both the Florida bit and Junior were pretty predictable. That being said, if Tony is seriously laid out for awhile, they can seriously let loose. As for Carmella, I wonder if the work stoppage won't push her towards Tony. I think that she'll cave to use...
I just got my 360 over the weekend. I've only picked up CoD2 so far but I love the ability to download demos of games right through the built-in interface. As mentioned above, the Fight Night: Round 3 demo is awesome. It definitely lacks some polish but it looks like it will be a must-have when...
I'm hoping that the week prior to release will produce some reliable reviews but barring any earth-shattering bad news, the games I'm looking for at launch are: ES: Oblivion, Madden 2006, and Ghost Recon 3.
For me, the disbelief issue kicks in where a film breaks its own rules. I think it's important that one a film sets up its own laws and dynamics that it sticks to them and doesn't bend or break them when it becomes convenient to do so.
I'm waiting on the R3 DVD to be delivered. I haven't seen it yet but loved Shaolin Soccer. It looks like there are quite a few actos in common between the two films, judging by the trailer. I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it. Can't wait to give it a spin!
I think Romier is correct about "omega" being a reference to the end. Sophie's ability to resist Brother Justin seems to have endeared her to him in some way, although perhaps it just presents a stronger soul he wishes to break...
Jed, I don't think your comparisons are valid. The variations on Coca Cola that you mentioned are basically Coca Cola with small adjustments. Loonatics isn't Looney Tunes with a twist, it's an entirely new product with only the smallest connections to the original. The Coke vs. New Coke is a...
I guess my ultimate question about this whole thing is: do the originals need reinvention? Most of us posting in this discussion now were not a twinkle in our fathers' eyes when the Looney Tunes were originally shown and yet they speak to all of us. Did these last generations suddenly turn a...
