Yogi: Actually Plytron is a Canadian company located in the North end of Toronto. They have been manufacturing torroidal transformers for the audio industry for years and years. B&K for at least 15 years. Others include Bryston, Claase, and Odyssey to name a few. Bob Bob
Just catching up on this thread I started before going away for a few days. Thanks fot your responses.
I had an interesting visitor drop by last night, to solve a problem with one of the Odyssey monos that I received. One of them was not in working order as the front panel lights were very...
I have ordered and will be receiving three Odyssey mono blocks today. I have of course not listened to these amps,as they are sold factory direct only, but have read posts on other forums that convinced me to take a chance. I will be replacing the front sound stage of my 5800 with these amps...
For all you fortunate active owners. What type of interconnects do you use? I assume that the distance from pre-pro to speakers will be longer than traditional available interconnect lengths. I am interested because due to space limitations, I am forsed to locate my mono amps up front with the...
I'm not sure how helpfull I will be, comming up with all the costs associated with the import of this product. I will be using our corp Fed-x account for shipping and our corp broker for import. Outside of exchange, which will appear on my Visa 30 days later, this is a NAFTA product, therefor as...
Well, thanks to this thread, numerous reviews of the Odyssey product, and a long conversation with Klaus, I ordered 3 Strato mono blocks today (8 weeks delivery)I will be using them to power my M&K S150's L.C.R and use my AVR 5800 for the four surrounds. I was particularly impressed with the...
Tyson:
I have been looking at separates for a while and have a short list that consists of Cinepro, Meridian, and Bryston.
I am curious about what you consider shortfalls with the Bryston. If I had a complaint about the Bryston amps, it would be that they lean toward the bright side. I can...
For Christmas, my wife bought me the Onkyo DV-M301. This is a 301 disk DVD/CD player. Although I have not played around with it that much, it appears to be a very good CD player and a more than adequet DVD player. I am not using it as my primary DVD player, but intend to mass store music...
Thanks for the input, I have some slitters around that I can try. What about the SPL loss, do you think this is normal, or tied in with the heat build up??.
Thanks
Bob
Chuck, I,m concerned about why the heat being produced by the PE-17, and perhaps I am hooking it up wrong.
I have the receiver "sub out" delivering signal to the Rane, which outputs to a distribution amp (break out box) and on to 4 powered subs. I find that with each channel in bypass and the...
I find that the Rane runs very hot. I am using three channels only and find that it reduces overall low frequency SPL by about 4db which I assume is the source of the heat. I'm not sure if they all do this or not.
Bob
I have the same problem with fan noise, (two fans mounted on top of enclosure). What I did was buy a small air cleaner and put it in the bottom of the cabinet, I leave it on all the time, and it is very quiet. The added bonus is that the air moved within the cabinet is filtered before passing...
To all M&K / SVS owners, My experiance seems ongoing as I try to find the perfect sound for both movies and two channel music. I also have the S150,s, seven of them, two Mx350,s and dual SVS Ultra,s. What satisfies me the most,so far, is using the 350,s similar to Roberts set up using 80hz THX...
I am currently experimenting with the 5800, with small and large settings. I use M&K S150's in my H/T set up, but have never been content with their two channel reproduction. The 150's have a cross over point of 77 hz which to me leaves a gap with the fixed 80 hz X over offered with the 5800...
I too have used this method to find out why my AVR5800 sounded so terrible in the direct and pure direct mode. I hooked the analogue cables out of the Denon DVP 5000 into the 5800 using the VDP input and the co-ax digital cable to the DVD input. I paid close attention to sound levels and...
Thanks Robert.
I thought that there may be a formula that outlines room responses by data input. This would allow me to adjust dimensions in order to avoid large peaks and nulls. I seemed to remember this information on this forum, and hoped that it would resurface here.
Thanks again
Bob
I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed before, but as I am about to design and build my second H/T from the foundation up. Is there a perfect size? The size that I have in mind is 22'x15'8' finished ID.
Hi Keith:
I have solved this problem by running the S video (1) to the projector and the composite video (1) to the monitor. I can only pull up the 5800 menu when I switch function rom DVD to something else. In order to set up the DVD on the monitor, I also run a composite directly from the DVD...

I can't remember exactly, but I believe with PST,GST, Duty, brokerage and a little paperwork charge, your net will be about 4900.00. SVS pays for all shipping cost. If your main listening agenda is going to be movies, I can't begin to tell you how good these things are, however for two...
Last night I was finally able to integrate the new CS ultra package into my system. I am going to keep this very short by saying that the thunderous sound now eminating from my H/T is the reason I purchased this equipment. With that in mind I can say that I am more than pleased. This product...
I have just purchased a Rane equalizer and need to connect my subs RCA or BNC to the XLR input/output connectors on the Rane. Do I have to make these or can I purchase these
I used a similar product manufactured in Quebec called Sonopan. I has the same properties as Homeosote and worked extremely well in my HT. You must seal all joints with accoustic chaulking. I then used resilient channel and two layers of 1/2" drywall. The only sounds that escape this basement...
When I finished my dedicated theater my main concern was sound containment, not room acoustics. With a great deal of research I located a sound absorption material called Sonopan ( available at lumber companies) it is 3/4" thick, and I applied it to all joists and beams. 8" of insulation wool...
