Standing up for your rights does pay off sometimes. For future reference, what I have done in situations similar to this is make the salesperson write the details of the purchase on the sales slip that may be in question. It might be a question of included items, as in your case, or maybe...
Three times in the last 1+ weeks I have ordered the Bonus Material disc of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie from Netflix and received the movie disc instead. Each time, the sleeve had the right title but the disc was wrong. After the first mistake, I placed another one on top of...
Thanks to all for your feedback. This is one of my favorites, and I've held out for this updated version. Although I rent most of the flicks I watch these days, this will be a purchase. Doug
Thanks for the suggestion, Rachael. I may try it to see how it changes the sound, but my observations weren't based on any deficiency in a center image / existence of a hole, if you will. I was simply going around to each speaker to hear what the output levels were and noticed the lack of center...
BTW, the Fleck disc does not have a 2 channel DVD-A presentation. The multi-channel is believable / realistic, though, and it seems to work well for this genre when many instrumentalists are playing. It helps that the visual material included with these discs reinforces placing you in the...
The Fleck and McEuen/Ibbotson discs are probably my favorite 2 DVD-A's. They are also 2 of the few multi-channel presentations to which I actually listen (yes, still a stubborn 2 channel'er). This will probably change with the arrival of the Moody's SACDs.

Slightly amusing as it is to hear it once or twice in a game, it's done way too much. Some would think that paying attention to the game would be more worthwhile (though tough it might be in the last week). In any case, I wouldn't approve of any censorship / tainting of the "original theatrical...
Tough decision. Big fan, and the idea of owning these series sounds great, but I'm not sure I'd actually sit down and watch it all. Maybe Game 7's. For those who do purchase, I'm curious if a censor-happy empty suit in DVD production land somehow managed to rub out the infamous "jeers" that...
I would be surprised if the vertical side bars of non-anamorphic widescreen (letterbox) material was not also distorted, assuming you kept the TV in the same aspect ratio mode as with 4:3 material (i.e., not using a zoom or stretch mode). Both material is essentially the same 4:3 ratio, with the...
Hey Phil, if CD playback is the priority for you, it sounds like a good upgrade. For me, even if I never purchased another SACD (I'm near 50 discs), I'd want to have a good player for the ones I have. Probably an important distinction for me is that most of my SACD purchases represent my current...
Phil, Why'd you sell your modded XA-777ES in the first place? Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, you're less than satisfied with the 9600 from an SACD perspective, in addition to CDs. I would think that your XA-777ES would have bested the 9600, although I've never heard the latter (faith in...
Yup, I instinctively turn to the opening Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan and the lobby scene in The Matrix when demoing surround effects to others. The Haunting is an excellent test to make sure all the nails are hammered in in your new HT. For a full length movie experience to flex it...
New SACDs purchased:
Natalie Macmaster - In My Hands
Spyro Gyra - Wrapped in a Dream
Romero - Live at Trinity Church
The Tiptons - Surrounded by Horns
Nickel Creek - Self-titled
The Kinks - Everybody's in Showbiz
Haven't heard much of any of them yet, but they generally have very good...
Re my Billy Joel Stranger SACD comments in this thread from the other day.
To my ears, the deficiencies in this disc are not subtle. For the 2ch layer, the sound is particularly flat / 2 dimensional. The presentation is very much constricted to the plane between my speakers. Instruments are...
Wow. Great prices. I was curious if these discs were international versions (thought I saw that somewhere), and if so, waiting for a US version that might be cheaper, but at the cd-wow prices, no reason to wait on these (assuming English liner notes, etc). Thanks. Doug
I was perusing CD vendor sites earlier this week and came across this list of CDs on one of them (maybe CD Universe). Didn't realize these were fresh releases. Thanks for the heads up on the audio quality. Not a big Dead fan, but I may be inclined to purchase one or more. Thanks. Doug
There is one (or more) threads a while back discussing Sony's plans to head in this direction for many of their (less popular) titles. But don't look for a rational explanation in such thread. Fortunately, I purchased Mackenna's Gold a few years ago. One of my childhood favorites that holds...
When I put Silk Stalkings S4 into my Netflix queue, they listed 3 discs with ~8 episodes per disc. Not a high runner series, I assume. I can't recall getting any other TV shows from Netflix that were double-sided. I'm also amazed at the low rate of disc failures on Netflix discs I have received...
Tough call. Absolutely love the movie, and think that Faye elevates herself above any of her other performances (that I've seen), but I reside near the no-double-dip extreme of the spectrum. Maybe the extras will do it for me. Doug
Just finished viewing the last of the 1 hour megaset episodes the other day - probably took me upwards of 2 years. Great show; it was a first viewing for me. Will plan on picking up the 1/2 hour episodes. Doug
