    Fight club (my opinion)

Or Se7en or Legends of the Fall. In fact his only "weak" performance that comes to mind is Meet Joe Black. It was just out of his range for the moment. I think in another 10 years he will easily be able to handle a role such as that. I see Pitt as our generations Robert Redford. People...

    Need some HT Demo DVD's

Thanks guys, I have Fight Club, I forgot to mention it. I just joined the Columbia house DVD club, got Blade, the Crow, U-571, and the Fifth Element as my 4 intro movies. I wanted X-men, and Saving Private Ryan, but those weren't movies that Columbia house stocks. They don't have either of...

Horrible News About Netflix (and Criterion)

Netflix still has a version of the "I mailed it back", it is just buried. Go to your shipping status page, click on "delayed" next to the movie. It will take you to a screen that says "If you mailed it back more than 4 days ago, and we still have not received it, please click on "delayed"...

    Need some HT Demo DVD's

Yep, I have a few "Demo" DVD's, but I am getting tired of playing the same thing over and over again for people that want to be "wowed". I have the Matrix, Charlie's Angels, Mission Impossible 2, Gladiator, and Heat. I am not looking for a bass demo as much as I am looking for something that...

    Which speaker to buy???

The NHT's are the most upfront, the Infinity's are the most laid back, and the 4.0's are in between (the marble/ceramics are very close to the Dunlavy SC-1's in overall sound).

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

I think the 20-31 and the Dharman will be very close in performance. I own the 16-46, which I re-tuned to 20 hz for a while, and I have heard a sub similar to the Dharman. I don't think either one has much of an edge over the other. Both are extremely impressive. With the sale, I think the...

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

No, not $100 improvement, especially if that $$ will get you a better sub (a quality sub is CRITICAL to get the best from the 4.0's). What sub are you looking at?

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

For rears you might be better off with the prism 4.1's, since they are much shorter, and they only require about 2 inches of clearance from the wall behind them. As rear speakers, they blend very well with the 4.0's in the front. I know this for a fact because I borrowed a pair of my...

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

They are pointed straight ahead at the TV. This give a more directional sound, which I like. You can mount them to the rear wall and point at each other and it will give you a bit more of a diffuse sound. Many people prefer a more diffuse sound for rears. With an omni-mount, you could also...

Great SVS torture test track. Other owners' opinions please...

With the SVS you are undoubtedly hearing room modes, with the 580's you are not. You shoud get an RS meter and a disk of test frequencies to see exactly how much the room is causing problems. A nice EQ would get you much cleaner sounding bass and much closer to a "flat" response.

What do you recommend for $1,000?

For $1k, I would get the Outlaw and just a pair of stereo speakers. By just getting the front 2, you can add a sub and the center channel & surrounds later as funds dictate. But you will get MUCH better speakers at $500/pair than $500 for all 5 plus a sub (scraping bottom here). You will be...

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

Since the 4.0's have a very low center of gravity (compared to most bookshelf speakers), and have a very wide base (feet are wide apart), they are very difficult to "knock over". The main danger is that they are bumped and slide off the top of the stand. But if you use a rubber sheet on top of...

A couple of nOrh 4.0 questions

What you might want to try for the surrounds is a pair of wood drums as they can mount directly to the wall with an omni-mount. Just unscrew the rear rubber "foot" on the speaker and attach the omni-mount. Very sturdy and takes up no space. You can also get the wood drum painted (by nOrh) to...

Cheap Home Theater review of nOrh 4.0's is up - one question though. . .

I saw that too. Thought it was incredibly irresponsible and completely baseless. I did my best to reprimand that poster in my response to him. Like I said, it was an honest review that did not sugar coat on negative points, and we (the consumers) NEED reviewers that are willing to "tell it...

Cheap Home Theater review of nOrh 4.0's is up - one question though. . .

One more question- what sub did you use with them? I didn't see one mentioned in the review, maybe I missed it? Since you are taking feedback, I do have one suggestion that is more of a general suggestion for bookshelf speaker reviews. More feedback on how they sound specifically with a sub...

nOrh 5.1 evaluated next to Dynaudio Contour 1.8 MkII

The 4.0's are a better speaker, IMO. Particularly the marble/ceramic 4.0's. More detail, better integration of the woofer and tweeter, more percussive upper/mid bass, cleaner midrange. The marble, particularly the white marble, is very beautiful. I have black marble, my neighbor has white...

Just Curious...who bought SVS because of this forum

I did too. SVS rocks my home theater like there is no tomorrow. Since 4 out of the 6 room boundaries are re-inforced concrete in my HT room, I get bass re-inforcement like you would not believe. A single 16-46 is all the bass I need. Just wanted to say "Thank you" to SVS for offering such an...

Cheap Home Theater review of nOrh 4.0's is up - one question though. . .

Speaking of looks, I always get a kick out of when people come over for the 1st time & watch a movie. They always notice the marble nOrhs first - you can see they are intrigued, the are like, "Hmm, those look kinda cool, are they the speakers?" At which point I usually start explaining about...

Cheap Home Theater review of nOrh 4.0's is up - one question though. . .

Chip E, No worries man. I am actually just as enthusiastic about my SVS 16-46 (which I am switching back and forth between the 16hz and 20hz tuning on). But SVS already has a ton of people posting about how extremely happy they are with them. In other words, it is a very well known bargain...

Cheap Home Theater review of nOrh 4.0's is up - one question though. . .

After reading the review, which seemed incredibly positive regarding the speaker's performance, I am a bit puzzled by the 4/5 rating. The rather glowing review of the performance would seem to warrant a 5/5, so I am wondering if it was knocked down to a 4/5 ONLY becuase the staff did not like...

nOrh 5.1 video system (follow up question)?

For $950 for all 5 speakers, it is about as good as it gets. I would actually look at the ceramic 4.0 setup instead - cleaner sound, better midrange detail, and $100 cheaper. Cross them at 80hz to a good sub and they will play very loud, but not reference levels, like Tom noted (but neither...

    Ceramic Norh4.0's delay

Yeah, there is no production line from what I understand, just a bunch of different factories that have people hand crafting these things. The only notifications I received were when the speakers were about a week away from shipping. I think they ship them in batches, so if you "miss" a batch...

    Please tell me about nOrh

Hey Tom! Did you ever let Dennis out of the subwoofer enclosure? That pic was GREAT! I'm assuming that Dennis brought over the marble 4.0's for you to have a listen? What did you think? You are right, like any speaker w/a small mid-woofer they will give out before reaching reference...

    Please tell me about nOrh

Also, one thing that is critical to getting good dialogue from the nOrhs is to angle the center speaker down so the tweeter points at your ear level when you are seated. If you don't have room to do that w/the 4.0, nOrh makes the Prism 4.1 to allow for much easier angling & placment for people...

    Please tell me about nOrh

The marble and ceramic 4.0's excel in clarity and imaging. Nothing I have heard in their price range, or even for much more, can really equal them in these areas. With the way the woofer and tweeter are mounted, there is essentially NO baffle, so imaging is just amazing. The inert cabinet...

    Speaker markup?

I have generally been told 400%, but after a little more research, that # is based on the retail price of the parts. But many times manufacturers can buy parts in bulk and get substantial discounts. If this is taken in to account, retail can actually aproach 900%. But you also have to realize...

    *** Official "MEMENTO" Discussion Thread

Brett, Yes, exactly, that is precisely the conclusion I am trying to advance here. Within the logic of the movie itself, this seems to be the view w/the least ambiguity (although even this conclusion is LOADED w/ambiguity, which is surely the intent of the film makers. Many people seem to be...
