Sorry for the cross post, but I am desparate. Ok, I spent all last night hooking up my new Denon 1803 and my Ascend Speakers (I hate running wire!). Anyway, I have a SA3100HD box with a digital coax audio out. I ran this audio out to the digital coax audio in on the back of the 1803. I switched...
Well, I did it. My Ascend Speakers are being assembled and should ship in a few days. As Ben suggested, I have 3 CMB170's across the front and am using the HTM-200's as the sats. I am waiting on the sub, but I can order the sub within 45 days if I choose for the package price. So Now, here...
I was all ready to pull the trigger on the Ascends, when someone recommended the Athena 5.1 system (which includes a subwoofer) for 800 delivered. Has anyone done a comparision between these two systems? The athena received a love letter from Sound & Vision magazine.
How do you guys feel about forgoing the sub for a while? I am now considering the Ascend 5.1 system without the woofer (699) and get the woofer after Christmas??!?!
Thanks Pablo. Everyone seems to be touting the Ascends right now, maybe I will give them a try. I haven't seen much on the Dalhquists, Athena's or Atlantic Technologies. Anyone??? thx.
Ok, I posted a couple of days ago on recommendations for my speakers, I just wanted to consolidate the various options that I am now considering. I just placed an order for a Denon 1803! And now I need a 5.1 speaker setup. My budget is $500 to $750. The room is 12x12 (8' ceiling) with...
Ok, I posted before on developing a HT for my 12X12 small room...the ceiling height is 9 feet and it has tile floor. I am getting a Denon 1803 and am leaning toward a JBL S-Series set up. If I go with this set up I will need a subwoofer (unlike with my other finalists, Take 5.2 and AR HC6s)...
Thanks Jeff (any everyone for their suggestions) I will use the system for 75% HT and 25% music. I am not much of an audiophile and probably do not possess the time/patientice/ability to build speakers. I know the room may be too small to get some big tower speakers however, I do have...
Thanks Jeff, your site has a lot of good info. Do you have any opinions regarding the speakers on your site? I am looking for real world performance of speakers. thx.
Thanks Guys for the advice. Right now I am looking at: Accoustic Research HC6's Paradigm Cinema or Micros (I know a bit above budget) JBL S-26 JBL S-Center and applicable sub psb alpha intro athena tech point 5 Any other advice?
Ok, I have purchased the video portion of my HT, with a Panasonic 53wx42, a Panny RP82 and Cox Cable HD (through a SA3100hd). Now, on to the audio side.... I am almost convinced to get the Denon 1803 when it comes out in the next couple of weeks. The most difficulty I am having is find the...
I went through this exact dilema and decided on the Panny. It has 3" more screen which is very nice. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the stretch modes and the NTSC clarity. I watch about 60% NTSC/HD Cable and 40% DVD's. The NTSC is very watchable and the HD and DVD clarity is...
Manuel, I do not know the particulars of the 51" Panny. However, you can find the 53wx42 online, shipping included for $1709. You will get a much larger screen than the 51" panny (especially when viewing 16:9).
After 3 months of endless research, numerous duplicative emails asking for advice, I finally pulled the trigger on the 53wx42 today. I ordered it from onecall and it should be delivered in 3-4 days. Thanks to everyone who responded to my incessant posts. Tim
There is an age old debate between the Mits and Tosh lovers. I do not have either, however, I think you can distill the argument down to 1. Mits may look slightly better on DVD's and HD 2. Tosh looks better on NTSC (and the stretch modes). So, if you TV will be dedicated for Home Theater...
Do you know what the depth of the 53" is? I thought it was 24". I have a 12X12 room, so if tv is 24". I will have 10' and the couch is 1.5 from the wall, I would have 8.5 feet from the TV which may be fine for the 53" However, if the TV is greater than 24" I may have a problem.
Sounds very nice. Are you happy with cable/dss reception? I am going to pull the trigger this week (actually I said that last week!). Am I am still concerned about the 53" screen size on the panny. The tosh may be a perfect compromise.
Hey Greggor, How did the calibration go? I am considering the Tosh (or Panny 53"). How does you TV look when viewing NTSC? How far are you sitting away from it? I am trying to get as much empircal data, before pulling the trigger. Thanks, Tim
Ok based upon the math, using 3.3 x height for HD and 5 x height for Cable, the perfect distances for the TV would be HD/DVD = 7.5 ft NTSC = 10.8 ft. With the Tosh 50h82, the distances would be HD/DVD = 6.7 ft NTSC = 10.2 With the 47" panny, the distances would be HD/DVD 6.3...
Ok, I was all set to get the Panny 53wx42 when someone said that 8.5' is too close to sit for this size tv on NTSC material. For HD/DVD it would be fine. However as the majority of my viewing will be Digital Cable I am concerned. I may consider the 47" or even the Tosh 50h82, now. However...
Hey Matt, how far do you sit away from your TV? I will be about 8.5 feet from the screen. Do you think the 53" is too big? Particularly with NTSC material?
