Acoustical Treatments in Large, Reverberant Room

Wayne, I agree, that would work well, except the tile in the house is only a few years old, in great shape, and looks really nice. Honestly, the panels wouldn't really bother me too much. I would put at least 2 on the ceiling, and I think they would blend in pretty well if I used white fabric.

Acoustical Treatments in Large, Reverberant Room

Thanks for the info, Leo. What I might end up doing instead is build my own panels out of 2"x4" or 2"x6" frame lumber, putting a 1/4" MDF backer, then filling them with Fiberglass insulation. I would then cover them with a fabric cover. I figure I could create 4 foot by 8 foot panels this...

Acoustical Treatments in Large, Reverberant Room

I have a large living room, the dimensions are approximately 20 feet by 25 feet. The ceilings are vaulted, and approximately 15 feet tall at the top. My dining room is directly attached to the back of the room and open, so it extends another 12 feet, and is around 15 feet wide. All of the...

    Projector for < $900

Thanks for the responses guys. I'd like the screen size to be quite large, actually. Probably 100 inches or so. I found a website that sells the Infocus X1 that is refurbished for 499 dollars. However, it doesnt specify how many hours are on the bulb, and I think the warranty is only a few...

    Projector for < $900

I'm looking to get a project for the living room. I cant decide on what I want though. I've been looking at some SVGA as well as some XGA ones, but I was hoping to get some input from people who have more experience. This will probably be used for watching TV (I have HD, so something with...

    Audible Component Differences...A Nousaine Story

Ive come to the conclusion that MOST components/tweaks/etc. that have people arguing that there would be no possible audible difference with or without them are probably not going to make a difference. ;) For instance, I don't think I've heard anyone say two pairs of speakers sound the same :D

    Star Trek: Enterprise 5/05/'04 "e²"

I hope next year are the Romulan wars :D Although according to the Trek "timeline" the Romulan wars dont start for 2-3 more years, I think it would be AWESOME to have an entire season based on fighting between Romulus and Earth. I thouroughly enjoyed the Dominion wars on DS9, and I think the...

    Questions on Breaking Speakers In

Mike SJ: I wouldnt classify room treatments as something that would "hardly make a difference". Although it would depend on what the room treatments were. As to why people spend $$$$ on interconnects and wire, I think it is due to psychological reasons, and/or the way the equipment looks...

    Questions on Breaking Speakers In

The point of doing such would be to see if there is indeed a difference or not... I don't understand how people can think they hear a difference after comparing a "sound signature" they heard days, weeks or months ago to one they just listened to. Granted, if the change was HUGE that wouldnt...

    Questions on Breaking Speakers In

I would like to know why if break-in causes such a large and obvious change in the sound, manufacturers don't set up a test with a pair of "broken in" speakers next to a pair right off the manufacturing line and do a blind comparison?

    Questions on Breaking Speakers In

I trust Tom Nousaine over a company any day... The only logical reason I can think of a company reccomending speaker break-in is that psychologically some people tend to get accustomed to the sound of their new speakers, thinking they are changing for the better over time. By the time the...

$600 or less subwoofer amp for B4+

The problem I see with the K2 is that it puts out only 100 watts more than the Behringer, yet costs at least 2 times as much, used. I think Allan specified a budget of 600 dollars. I originally thought that the Behringer was overrated in it's power output, but as that link shows, the...

$600 or less subwoofer amp for B4+

Allan, I don't have a subwoofer right now, I run my front speakers full range. They can do 115dB+ from 35hz on up in my room though, so I can get really loud bass, it just doesnt extend as low as it would with a real subwoofer. However, when I had them outside at that party on friday, the bass...

$600 or less subwoofer amp for B4+

Allan, on Friday night I ran the EP2500 for 5 hours straight at a party at FULL output (the amplifier was probably being overdriven by around 6dB or so on average). The amplifier took it just fine and sounded great! Keep in mind, this is after I reduced the speed of the fan too. :D So the...

$600 or less subwoofer amp for B4+

I'd say you would probably be able to hear it. It's about as loud as a moderatly loud cpu fan. It is less loud than most cd-rom drives running at full speed though. I don't think sending it to me would be economically feasable :) It only took me an hour or so to modify the amplifier (and keep...

$600 or less subwoofer amp for B4+

Ive got a Behringer EP2500 powering the woofers in my main speakers (biamplified) and it does a great job. Puts out tons of power. I paid only 50 dollars more for it than my old QSC RMX 1450 (i bought the QSC used) and it puts out over 1.5 times more power. I think a guy in the DIY forum tested...

A tube car stereo? From Panasonic??

I don't think he was flaming... Tubes stopped being used in the sixties because transistors were more reliable, smaller, and offered better performance. If tubes were still "in" why aren't they used in computer parts? Computers are much more complex devices than low frequency (sub 100khz)...

behringer 1500 or nady XA-1100 or other suggestions?

I used to have a QSC RMX 1450, but sold it and now have a Behringer EP2500 (the 1500's big brother) Both are outstanding amps, and both puts out their true rated power. The only downside is the loud fan's both had. However, the Behringer is cheaper and puts out more power, therefore IMO it...

reading a xover for my mystery diy speakers

You can read the ratings for the capacitors and resistors, as they will most likely have them printed on them. For the inductors you will need an inductance meter to measure what value they are.

    BSC for 2.5 way

Tim, I thought you were talking about a dipole design because you said there would be a 6dB drop in freespace @ 300hz. All other calculations I have found are that the drop should be much less than that, more like 2-3dB at 300hz, and then decreasing to 6dB at the lowest frequencies. I am not...

    BSC for 2.5 way

Dan, I can't really modify them to be MTM's. They sound ok right now, but nothing special. I am using a active xover, so I really don't want to add a lot of passive components in the mix. Destructive interference won't be much of a problem with the tweeter because i am using 8th order LR...

    ebs shiva bottoming out?

Thomas, this site appears to have them: http://www.dbdrive.net/tech/speakerspecs.html Around 20mm throw according to that website. I HOPE they are talking about one way linear xmax though... I can't tell if its a underhung or overhung design either by the pictures :frowning:

How much power do I need to drive an Adire Audio Sadhara 12"?

It will really depend on the size of your enclosure and the enclosure type you use. In a large sealed box you may only need 150 watts, but in a small ported one, you may need 500 or more.

    BSC for 2.5 way

Ive got a 2way TWW with a Eminence psd2002 compression driver and 2 Eminence Delta 12LFA woofers per cabinet. I use a Behringer DCX2496 for crossover duties. My problem is that there seems to be a bit too much lobing and the soundstage seems to be "drawn" downward due to having both woofers...

See, powerline conditioners do matter (Yeah, right!!!)

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...spx?EDC=556712 Im surprised audiophiles don't buy a product like that. For 1200 dollars you get full-time protection, 2.4kW output, and a ac/dc/ac convertor that is always on. That seems to me like it would clean the power up a lot better than some...

Scott_N, in my opinion, I would agree with that except for turntables and speakers need to be auditioned ;)
