in my opinion, digital is digital, it doesn't matter how the signal gets there, its just a bunch of 1's and 0's regardless.

its pretty simple to save to computer, you just need a rca -> usb cable, i think you can find them online. once you have that cable, it pretty much treats the tivo as a hard disk, only downside is it takes awhile to record because you have to play back the entire show in real time to write it...

You should also consider some of the newer Marantz receivers, they are cheaper, and spec out very close to the yamaha. I was also looking at the yamaha 800/1000 and went with the marantz instead, mostly because of price and because the marantz has dts-es built in.
