You can get the JVC at beachcamera.com for $1500. Mine is being delivered this Friday. I read that it does benefit from ISF calibration, I will be having mine done, but for "only" $275. I've had it done on my previous set, and I thought it was worth it.
I just purchased the HD-61FN97 for the amazing price of $1497 from BeachCamera.com. I'd been reading about it, and for that price, it was an easy decision. No sooner had I finished my order, I noticed on that retailer's website that they have the HD-61FH97 for $100 more. Reading through...
(I shortened your quote, and I did not intend to take your words out of context.)
If you are using a 720p TV, make sure your PS3 is outputting 1080i resolution. If not, the PS3 will output 480p for BluRay discs, because it won't convert from 1080i/p to 720p.
That's the mistake I made. After...
Yes, I have a PS3 and a Toshiba HD-A1. I like that the HD-DVD player decodes Dolby TrueHD. I guess the PS3 does also, but to my knowledge, not many BD titles use it.
On the topic of Lossless audio, be it multichannel PCM or Dolby TrueHD, it is incredible. It's like those Claritin...
To answer my own question, YES. Setting the HDMI Audio Out option (under BD/DVD Options) to Bitstream will, in fact, allow you to play back uncompressed PCM soundtracks. I tried it with the movie Click.
I don't understand this, but I'm happy that it works.
Got some questions, from one PS3 owner to another:
First, Does the PS3 still not output 720p for BluRay playback?
If not, I could set my PS3 to output 1080i (my DLP TV accepts 1080i and 720p), but then it seems it's always outputting 1080i.
When I first got it, I set it up by letting the...
Presently I'm enjoying The Perfect Storm in Dolby True HD 5.1 on my Toshiba HD-A1, and I have to pause and chime in with my impressions. First, I'll share why I waited until now: It wasn't because I was worried that HD-DVD would "lose" in a format war. I read enough stuff here and elsewhere...
How long until the debate between Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD? (grins) Can't wait to get my player later this week. Is it easy to do an A/B (/C?) comparison between DD, DD+ and DD TrueHD using the Toshiba player and a disc with all three soundtracks? (Phantom Of The Opera is what I have in mind)
I have the Denon AVR-4306 with 3 HDMI Inputs, and I am very glad I have it. DirecTV HD TiVo, HDMI DVD Player, and space for the PlayStation 3 whenever that comes out. Also, if your source material is already sent to the receiver at the desired resolution, it doesn't matter what kind of...
I sat in a demo for this product at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver in late September. It has to be heard (or felt) to be believed. I'm unsure how practical it is, though. In the demo, which was in a hotel suite, the sub was in another room in the suite, the walls of which were...
Thanks for the info (and I fixed my spelling goof, thanks). Like Shane pointed out, with the features I'm looking for, HK is outside of my budget. I've heard that HK used to have issues with build quality, but they've ironed those things out. Looks-wise, I wish every A/V Receiver looked as good...
The 4600 lacks some of the key features of the 2600, the most important of which (to me) is analog video to HDMI conversion. Both the Denon 3806 and 4306 have this, as does the Yamaha 2600. The Yamaha 2600 is also advertised to upconvert analog video signals to 720p/1080i. I've also read...
I've looked at the 3806, but I like the 4306 a little more. I'd hate to get the 3806 and then regret not spending the extra dough to get the extra features I want. At this point, I'd be in the same amount of trouble with my wife spending $1300 as I am spending $2000. *grins*
Thanks for the reply. I do know of a dealer in Boulder, a large retailer, though I don't think they can beat the price I've ordered the Denon for thru Crutchfield ($1925 shipped). It's doubtful a dealer would lower the price on such a new item. Plus, I have take a vow to never shop there...
I'm up against a buying decision. I've placed an order with Crutchfield for the DENON model, but the Yamaha looks great also. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/r...rs/RXV2600.htm http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fPyO6yp...0&I=033AV4306B The main differences (that I care about at all) seem...
Yamaha has just announced a new receiver that has the exact featureset I'm looking for, at a price I can afford. Ever since seeing the new receiver offerings from DENON that include HDMI switching, I've been patiently waiting for the competition to begin. This new Yamaha not only switches...
Sergio, I don't have an answer for you, but I have a very similar experience after moving. I'm using an Onkyo TX-DS898 7.1 receiver, and my LEFT FRONT channel was emitting a static-like popping sound. I had JBL Northridge N26 speakers, but replaced them with Aperion Audio 522 bookshelves...
I haven't done anything yet. I won't even be ready to have anything done for a month. I'm just getting ready. After a visit to Soundtrack (a large HT retailer/custom install place out here, also called Ultimate Electronics) last evening, I've learned a lot and have decided that I'm going to...
First off, what I'm referring to is described HERE . I'm not talking about RF video distribution. I presently have the "OnQ base solution". I guess my best bet is to locate on OnQ dealer and have them do the installation.
I'm going to be moving into a new house this weekend, and I'll be getting DirecTV installed. I'll be getting at least one HD-DVR. Before I give this the green light, I want to be sure that the installer knows how to utilize the On-Q Distribution Center that I had installed with the house...
I haven't used the new sub yet, in fact, I haven't even gotten it yet. We close on a new house on Friday (7/29). My new sub and speakers will be shipped the first week in August. I usually win all the arguments about getting new stuff. This year alone I talked the wife into getting a new TV...
Thanks for the reply. My biggest obstacle now is getting this past my wife. She knows we need something new, because we're moving into a new home and we're going to put a system in the bedroom, but she wants me to go cheap. I'd like to move our existing receiver (Onkyo TSDX898) into the...
Until very recently, I'd never considered using separates. I always thought they'd be way outside my budget. After taking a look at OutlawAudio.com I guess I've been wrong. Anyway, I've been bitten by the upgrade bug and I'm working with a budget of up to $2000. I'm looking for at least 110...
