Joe- The point of the DEAD series, as Romero has said time and time again, is not to make some continuity-accurate STAR WARS universe to please the fans. He is interested in reflecting America during whatever period the films have been made. Romero is operating as a satirist. Sure, he could set...
The opening 10-15 min of MASTER AND COMMANDER are extraodinary, both in the quiet atmospheric sounds and the loud battle scene. The ship's crew running around on the wooden deck overhead made me think my neighbors were breaking down my door! Other amazing DTS titles, some mentioned before...
I thought I'd chime in here, as you seem to be focusing on Batman Begins and all things in audio geek-land, and I am a massive fan of Maestro Harris. Any thoughts as to why a DTS track was not an option for BB? The new Burton/Schummacher DVDs have DTS. I am guessing it may have something to do...
Agreed with Steve... great DVD, but would it have killed them to add a DTS track? The Burton Batman Box (say that 5 times fast) has DTS, but Warner keeps it off BB? I am assuming that they needed the movie disc to be the same on the single disc edition offered to rental stores, making room for...
Hey boys, ghouls, freaks, creeps, and all you stinkin' zombies... you can find the pics from Zombie Night in the Photos section of this Yahoo group. You have to join the group first, but it's free. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/millionzombiemarch/
Just wanted to let interested NYC people that... The Million Zombie March is on! I have many people writing and calling me that they will meet up in full zombie make-up and costume at the south side of Union Sq Park at 9:00-9:30 Friday night. We'll then head over to the Union Sq 13th and...
Calling all horror fans, zombie fans, and make-up/costume people… George A Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD is opening on June 24th, in just 2 weeks!!! And we need you! Your mission is to become a part of a groaning mob of the living dead. This is not a marketing promotion, just some fans who want to...
Anyone have trouble playing this disc? I've been having trouble playing the deleted scene on my Denon 2800 II without it freezing up. And I've found the movie itself freezes a bit sometimes. Thinking it was a defect, I just exchanged it for another copy...same problem. :frowning:
I've owned a Pioneer DV-414 for a few years now with no problems. For a while now, it keeps switching between playing just fine and having a real problem. Many times it will not load up a DVD, but simply spin the DVD faster and faster with a loud whirring noise. Sometimes the DVD will just stop...
I've voiced my feelings about this at Mobius Home Video Forum. I'm really displeased with Anchor Bay over this audio problem. One of the many reasons I buy DVDs is I don't want my movies censored or chopped up in any way. Sloppy work. Even worse when a representative from Anchor Bay posting on...
Forbidden Tales, staring Tera Patrick from Digital Playground has some terrific looking scenes and some nice locations in Budapest. You might check out the Island Fever films Patrick did. I haven't seen them, but they were shot on location at waterfalls and such...should look great. She...
Thanks for the link. Nice pics. This was one of my top faves of that year too. I just never liked the "hey, here's the ghost up close" approach on the US DVD, preferring the obscured through the window Mario Bava shot from the US poster. The Canadian DVD replicates that pretty well. How...
I recently spotted the Canadian DVD of THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE here in NYC for a pretty decent price. I never picked up the US version. And I really prefer the more subtle, eerie, and beautiful Canadian box art. The features listed seem the same. Does anyone know if it is the same transfer as the...
Just picked the Criterion STRAW DOGS here in NYC. From what I have seen, it appears to be the typically excellent Criterion production. A sticker on the plastic wrap says "SPECIAL EDITION: Available For A Limited Time" but I cannot find any info related to this at the Criterion website...
I saw this in the theaters and decided to rent the DVD last night to check it out again. Still endless and shameless fun...definitely the biggest guilty pleasure of 2002 alongside BLADE 2. I kinda wished it had more extras, although some of the featurettes were nice. Fans should note that...
:D
NEWS FLASH!
I totally defragged my hard drive using Norton (a process that was quite overdue) and my CD plays fine on the PC Drive.
The special extras that are supposedly accessed through the weblink seem to still be a washout. The links don't seem to go anywhere.
I just tried my LE on my friend's PC. It played fine on the CD playing software he had. And the CD-Rom menu screen for all the LOTR features loaded fine. So this appears to be software that isn't compatible with some systems. Anyone know the best way to resolve this pain in the ass? Should I...
:frowning:
My Limited Edition TTT CD (not the Internet version) will not play at all on my PC! It plays fine on my DVD player, but my PC can't read it. Had anyone else with the TTT LE CD had any problems with PC compatibility?
My Limited Edition CD can not be read by my PC at all! It plays fine on my stereo, but I can't get anything to happen on my computer. This really sucks because I wanted to make some MP3s to enjoy on the go.
Anyone know if I should be returning it? Anyone else have problems?
It's too bad...
SESSION 9 BLADE II DON'T LOOK NOW MGM Midnight Movies (especially the Corman-Poe films) HORROR OF DRACULA THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN CURSE OF THE DEMON and most of the Mario Bava DVDs
CANADIANS: I live here in NYC and I wound up getting the Canadian edition from a local store because it beat the street date and it was (so I thought) a good price. The booklet inside has both English and French text. There is NO FREE TWO TOWERS PASS!!! When you play the film, you get the...
Excellent news! If this movie is anywhere nearly as cool as the premise I've heard Romero reveal in interviews, I am there opening weekend. Hell, I'll be there no matter what. Please, please, PLEASE get Savini on board and give him a budget to allow him to make his Sistine Chapel of zombie...
Add me to the minority. I didn't care much for Blade 1 after the first 10 minutes or so. But I am ga-ga in love with Blade 2. Del Toro rules. Unlike Norrington with part one, Del Toro recognized that this material was about a Marvel horror superhero comic and made an almost perfect visualization...
I've owned (& loved & jealously protected) The Val Lewton Collection on laserdisc for years. That and my Star Wars Perfect Collection are two of the key reasons I keep my laser player around. But I certainly would upgrade to DVD if a proper Val Lewton box set were released, especially if it had...
I must totally agree with Jason. I felt that the bland, annoying Kamen score, the short running time and general rushed pace were the key faults with X-MEN. I know there was some sort of studio interference with Kamen, who is normally better. But I felt that Ottman was a much better choice as...
What a shame. I was really looking forward to this title, but as I own a Pioneer DV-414...
NO SALE BVHE!
But I will keep an eye peeled here for reports of some sort of revised edition.
(Thanks for the warnings, everyone.)
Troubling news. I was planning to pick up this title soon, on the basis of the excellent reviews. I have a Pioneer DV-414. Anyone out there have this player and MONSTERS, INC? I am hoping there won't be a problem.
James Foley said in an interview years ago that he hated his Pioneer commentary and said he didn't know what he was doing then. I remember reading a review that said the commentary wasn't all that great, other than getting to hear Lemmon slurp his milkshake while watching the film. :rolleyes...
