TORn is also saying its of 99% certainty that Del Toro is doing it.
This is a relief for me as I am a huge Del Toro fan. The second place guy on my list was Alfonso Cuaron. While I like Raimi too he just doesn't suit this project to me at all.
Faith in Hobbit restored. :) Can't wait to watch...
I thought the trailer was awesome, but as for the CG itself....I'm not so sure. I think maybe if it was more intentionally CG and less trying-to-be-realistic it might leave a better taste in my mouth. A perfect example is Blizzard's cinematics...similar style of CG but less realistic and it...
That was my biggest beef too. There was some potential for some "band of brothers" type stuff which would have been great, but it felt like they gave priority to cutting back to Sparta for the politics stuff. Overall I loved the movie though, and I really hope there's an extended cut of some...
First of all let me just say this movie is amazing to look at. I love the style. Almost every shot is a work of art in itself. This is one film that wholly benefits from being entirely green-screened - it was required to get the look across, and it worked very well. Second the sound design is...
Things sure have changed over at Rotten Tomatoes. It's sitting at 58% right now. nooooooo!!! There's still only a couple reviews in though and not a large enough sample. I don't let reviews decide what movie I see, but at the very least they can dehype me a bit which is sometimes a good thing.
Yeah I just saw the Variety article which has my hopes up a bit. I hope it works out in the end. Come on MGM, it's your turn to be the good guy. Looks like New Line could only do that once.
I've been kind of depressed all day because of this news.
Add me to the list of someone who won't support these films if they aren't made by PJ and Weta. That means a full boycott.
I always respected New Line because of their original decision to fund the trilogy, what happened to them? Surely...
The earliest ICT would be invoked is, what, 2010? Microsoft knows they'll be releasing their third Xbox that year so I doubt they're too worried. However it's entirely possible they'll release a HDMI cable but if they don't it looks like 1080p output over VGA and Component.
The Hobbit will happen, it's only a question of when. But Ian McKellan isn't getting any younger. I don't think I'd want to see The Hobbit without him.
Smaug is just the thing to raise the visual effects bar even higher. Higher than Kong or Gollum. I'm sure Weta could outdo themselves.
I...
For people on the fence about buying these for the documentaries alone...let me offer my opinion. Long time HTF readers will know I am a die-hard LOTR fanboy. I've spent amounts of money on merchandise that would make you sick. I purchased these STRICTLY for the documentaries. That said...
I think you will see individual retailers start giving discounts early in the new year, maybe even during the holidays...but don't expect anything substantial for at least a year or more. I also expect there to be a 2:1 price difference between BD and HD-DVD for quite some time, unless the BD...
Looks like New Line made some cuts to the Botes docs. http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,...4a1860,00.html It appears to be nothing significant but he doesn't seem to pleased with the situation. I can understand why NL wouldn't want to pay royalties for a song in a documentary. But as for...
I got the impression that this was intentional. It gave the movie an entirely different feeling in my eyes... that is if you are talking about the motion characteristics. Digital doesn't have to look like that (look at Star Wars, the motion in that is more film-like), it's purely a stylized...
I don't think anyone has implied there will be CG tweaks in these...that's just rampant fan speculation. I'd expect to wait for a "10th Anniversary Edition" or something to get something that drastic.
No Anamorphic = No sale. I thought we passed this hurdle back in ~1999. Now HD-DVD's are coming out and yet some major DVD releases still can't go anamorphic? If there are poor sales of this release because of the lackluster presentation, it will just give them more incentive to never...
ROTS was criminally overlooked in the Visual effects category (though I understand they had to narrow it down to 3, but it should replace Narnia). Most of the other noms are expected and not very surprising to me. Disappointing to not see Sin City under cinematography though.
Perhaps my original post was too harsh, but you must understand that AvP was like a punch to the face for me, a very big Alien and to a lesser extent Predator fan. I admit to liking some parts, like seeing what a Queen would be capable of in a large area and not just cramped hallways. And...
I am as surprised as you are. I'm expecting it to be total crap, then I might be able to enjoy it this time. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/c...entryid=285685 Aiming for an August 2007 release. I guess hitting rock bottom for both franchises wasn't enough. Now they have to dig.
Finally a high quality trailer. Here's a few screenshots- Notice the bullets coming out of her wrist in the last shot...not something I noticed in the crappy low res one.
Phenomenally stupid. Pirates don't use analog capture. They haven't for years and years. By doing this, you only encourage people with component to pirate digital copies that have DRM removed (and it will happen, very fast). No component, no sale. HD-DVD and Blu-ray, Punishing...
Check out the pics of Weta's Kong vs. V-Rex statue: http://www.firesidecollectibles.com/...n=Custom&ID=50 Statue is around 2 feet tall and I've been told the box weighs 50 pounds. The one and only Kong collectible I am buying...damn, can't wait to get it. :emoji_thumbsup:
They could easily make rental discs without a managed copy option. The disc could simply be flagged as a rental, making the player ignore the managed copy stuff. Who knows...they haven't fully laid out their plans yet. Sounds like the first generation players might be a mess.
No, Dan...tell us how you REALLY feel. ;)
Why shouldn't CGI films get the same suspension of disbelief that we give the older films? Do I smell a double standard? The funny thing is in the future when CG scenes in films are utterly indistinguishable from live action, and some filmmakers...
The action does look awesome...reminds me of Equilibrium. Yeah I'll see this for sure. :emoji_thumbsup: Here's a direct link to the trailer http://dld30.streamos.com/c9538ce015...iolet_500k.mov Hope there's something high res soon.
