Wow, either no one is playing Chaos Theory, or no one is talking about it... I guess that fits the theme of the game, though. I'm enjoying the game, even if overall it does have a bit of a "more of the same" feel... Does anyone know how to switch the SC-20K from automatic fire to...
That's great news! I have the current version (that I paid around $25 or $30 for, back when most DVDs could be purchased for next to nothing from dot-coms burning venture capital). "Lucky skunk." --Matthew
Just wanted to chime in to agree with Rob about the picture quality-- very nice. A little bit of DNR smearing, but no edge enhancement and overall very good detail and color. Oh, and the movie was good, too. ;) I hadn't seen this since 1991 (on my first date with the woman who is now my wife)...
Yes, when I was a kid reading these, they were numbered in the published order, with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe first. I still believe this is a better order to read them in, and I'm annoyed by the fact that they're now numbered in chronological order.

Thanks, guys. Unfortunately, I haven't been a student in a long time, and I wasn't planning to buy four DVDs tomorrow. Good tips, though-- hopefully someone else reading the thread is able to get some bargains. Thanks, Matthew
Seems like there have been 20% off coupons for Borders just about every weekend lately. So it figures that, now that I need to pick up some stuff there this Saturday, there aren't any Borders threads... anyone know of any coupons for tomorrow? Thanks, Matthew
If you're interested in the "Road To..." movies, you might check at Costco; I was there this weekend and picked up a box set of four of them (were there more than four?) for $29.99. --Matthew
I got a region 1 copy (it might have been an import-- from Canada) a year or two ago from Lasers Edge, but it doesn't look like they still have it. Around the same time, my in-laws got a copy from videoflicks.com which still shows it as available, but the cover art that they show is different...
It's a great couple of discs, and I loved the hilarious features, but I do have a complaint. The film itself (at least the widescreen version-- I didn't check the pan & scan) is mastered from a 30fps interlaced source! As a result, my player has to use video-mode deinterlacing instead of...
Every once in a while, there's a thread here titled something like "Is [movie title] a perfect film?" I think this film is a good candidate for a thread like that. The framing, the music, the plot, the acting... this is a great film and I'm struck by it more every time I watch it.

One thing that I've seen recommended: whatever brand of miniDV tape you choose, stick with that brand. I guess at one point the lubricant used in different tape brands would cause problems when mixed. This may not be an issue any more, but I'd still recommend sticking with one brand. There's...
Keith, that reasoning makes sense, except that it's my understanding that the trailers can still be saved to disk with the paid version of QuickTime. It's only the free version that gets limited to streaming.
--Matthew
Here's what bugs me about it: Apple restricts the trailers to streaming only (unless you have the paid version), and says that it's necessary to offset the bandwidth costs. The result is that instead of downloading the trailer once and saving it to my hard drive, I'm downloading it every time...
I guess I should have figured it wouldn't be as simple as it looked... It's hard to separate marketing-speak from reality on these things. So does the Sony have as much or more resolution in real terms as the JVC? (Here's a link to the GR-DVM75U.)
Thanks,
Matthew
Thanks for the info, everyone. I think I've decided to spend a little bit more and step up to the JVC GR-DVM75U. The place I'm buying has a good deal on it, and it offers a bit more than the other JVC and the Sony that I was looking at.
(And, as it turns out, I think I was mistaken on the...
Thanks, Mark. Yeah, the JVC link doesn't seem to work... Their site doesn't show that model, even in the archives, so I searched for the manual and used that link, but apparently the link doesn't work on its own.
The JVC is pretty similar to the Sony. The place I'm buying from has the Sony...
Anyone? One specific question I have is regarding the media: they're both digital camcorders, but the Sony uses 8mm or Hi-8 tapes, where the JVC uses the small digital video cassettes. Is there any difference in quality or storage lifetime?
Thanks,
Matthew
I'm buying a camcorder for my wife's birthday, and I'm trying to decide between two models: the Sony DCR-TRV340 and the JVC GR-DVL517U.
Anyone own either of these? Any thoughts, warnings, or recommendations?
Thanks,
Matthew
I would guess that it's an issue with the M-Audio 2496 driver. When this happens, open the M-Audio control panel and look under the S/PDIF tab. Select the Advanced checkbox, and look at the Audio/Non-Audio radio button selection. If the bitstream is DD or DTS, Non-Audio should be selected...
It's not a show that I'll go out of my way to watch, but I have to admit that when he put the garbage can over Byron's head and started hitting it with his phone, I was rolling on the floor laughing. (Maybe I just wish I could do that to a co-worker...)

Parker, would it be possible to increase the 15-minute setting, perhaps to 30 minutes? I could spend 15 minutes just trying to catch up on the posts in Software...

I think you guys are thinking about this more than the producers are. It seems like there have been a few hairstyle and wardrobe changes between episodes already (especially Jamie-- I think that's her name-- at CTU).

My previous home had one of the GE SpaceSaver undersink dishwashers. They hook up just like any installed dishwasher; you'll need to add some plumbing to the sink's water supply to supply water to the dishwasher, and a connector to the drain under the sink to hook the dishwasher drain to...
Now that the DVD is out in region 1, I thought I'd bump this thread back to the top (given that the search function is usually disabled-- I had to hunt through thirteen pages to find it).
