I was glad that the archive got around to the scope spectaculars, Helen of Troy and Land of the Pharoahs. I was hoin we would also get Silver CHalice, the Miracle and King Richard and the crusaders
I just got the blu ray of For Whom the bell Tolls. The regular dvd has a trailer and the roadshow version of the film I,E, with a prescreen Overture, an Intermission Slug and Intermission music. All of this is missing from the blu ray. Why?
Im no sure where to ask this. Ben Hur has a major moment where the sound has gone wrong only since dvd and blu ray.
In the opening prologue, the appearance of the star of bethlehem ha d a roaring loyud chorus. OPn all dvd, the chorus is barely there at alkl. Dont know haow this could happen.
Am trying to watch this now. this is the worst transfer of any major spectacle. Youd think Sony would be ashamed to have it out there.
The stereo track was copies from a collectors print. that print was technicolor and looked glorious. What oare the chances that Sony will restore this?
I got to meet Gene Nelson at a reception gathering to celebrate a new doc, Rodgers and Hammerstein, the sound of thei movies.

The 90minute behind the scenes is frquently embarrassing to hear. Speilberg frequently says this is not a remake of the 61 film but goes back to the broadwway show original.
Lies. He uses almost all of the changes from the film and adds many more.
which sound track are they using? the way to tell - when darby is playing his fiddle for the little people he does the countdown in gallic in the original and in english in the redone track.
At one time, there was supposed to be a widescreen release of The Miracle. But restoration had to be done. that was finished a couple of years ago. What is the holdup?
They would also have to go back to the mono reel one. When mgm did the first sd laserdisc, they used the soundtrack album for the Main title music in stereo. they still do - the original main title had a 50 plus orchjetra and a 35 piece chorus. the record al;bum only used about 22 players...
among the spectaculars not previously mentioned -
Prince and the Pauper ( errol flynn)
Plymouth Adventure ( this could use a Technicolor restoration)
Shoes of the Fisherman

Any chance to ever get any of these?
One last P.S> about the laserdisc.
Pioneer had in their contract that Columbia had to provide us with the best elements they had.

Thanks for putting up the Peter Hunt interview as I had never heard it. Good thing.
One he makes it soud aqs if I had only found blackand white w9ork print. If that was the case, where did the color come from for the disc.
When I started the 1776 projkect, my goals were simple. I wanted to...
