    HDTV receivers

I have the home theater master sl9000 and am very pleased. It intuitively handles the sony xbr400, dish6000, the 4dtv big dish system, DVD, laser disc, and a/v receiver. It is a traditional remote with a large LCD readout of the component being controlled. Mike

    HDTV quality

I have been HDTV capable since the super bowl and I am amazed at the difference in quality on HD broadcasts. The improvement on DVD's on my set (36xbr400) was dramatic and consistent, but hd is all over the place. The super bowl, and the dish demo channel are my benchmark as to what hd is...

    format quality evaluation

Frank, You have a point that the best HDTV is significantly better than the best dvd, but on my system, not 5 times better. On a linear scale, I would probably change my hdtv rating to 7-20. However, some of my dvd's in my opinion have been at least equal to some of the hd stuff I have seen. Mike

Why are direct-view HD ready sets so expensive?

Woodman, I agree with you to a point. In 10 years or so, I would expect that DLP (or something) will totally replace the crt technology for large sets. The problem is that the new technologies are too expensive and unreliable for primetime today. So what to do in the meantime. Your choices...

    format quality evaluation

Having just finished upgrading just about everything, I decided to do a personal evaluation on all my different formats. I will get tired of playing with all this stuff one of these days, but not just yet. My evaluation (from 0 to 10) Dish demo; HDTV specials (super bowl, golf): 10 Other...

    Pioneer progressive players.

I finished hooking up the DV-C36 with the new receiver and the Sony 36xbr400. The interlaced picture on toy Story was really outstanding, clearly better than my ld/cd combo unit. I switched the dvd player into progressive and my anamorhic dvd stretched to 4:3 aspect ratio. I forced the TV to...

    Pioneer progressive players.

Thanks Delroy, I followed the links and it helped me understand the issues.Yesterday, on a whim, I bought the c36 when I went in to buy a new receiver (Sony strv444ES) to go with my new Sony xbr400. Amazing, how a simple TV upgrade can escalate. After I bought it, I started reading all the...

Why are direct-view HD ready sets so expensive?

David, I just went through the same process that you are in. I decided on a direct view set because it was going into an entertainment center in a room that I did not want to look like a home theater. Also, at least 50% of our viewing is not digital and direct view sets are better for that...

    HDTV / Dolby Digital question

I have worked my way through TV selection, through STB selection, and now audio. The dish 6000 receiver only outputs optical; my DVD/LD combo outputs coax; my a/v receiver (Kenwood KR-V990) only has a single coax input for DD5.1. Is there any sort of combiner splitter that will allow both...
