At least here in Norway I'm under the impression that practically any new TV set or DVD player will handle "anything". So I think your solution is simple - sell off your equipment before you go and buy new in the UK. There's no reason to replace your DVDs. ;) The majority of my collection is...
It might be a gamble, but Disney could "call the bluff", so to speak, simply by releasing SotS - then "those people" would finally be able to see how "lame" it really is...
Somewhat high prices and limited selection of titles about a year into the game doesn't mean that the HD formats are never going to "get there". But I'd say players that play both HD formats could be a step in the right direction - so they could call off this stupid gamble.
I remember DVD in the beginning - even though I didn't buy into it until three years later. Some "new guys" started to show up at "my" laserdisc store and would seemingly buy anything as long as it was a DVD. Weird. I didn't bother until there was a certain amount of material available that I...
Hm, contrary to what I wrote in one of my previous posts I guess now that some indeed seem to be "in denial". Why make this such a question of "to be or not to be"...? Given that the better formats still use discs the same size as DVD or CD and the players will still play SD-DVD I'd say the HD...
Years ago I was following quite closely what "laserdisc people" had to say; and some of them would for quite a while tell that - and explain why - DVD wasn't and couldn't be better than LD, or even as good as LD. Soon it became obvious that these guys were in denial... I don't think that's quite...
A better format is better, obviously. Whether or not it's worthwhile to upgrade at this time is up to every single one of us to decide for ourselves - and nothing to quarrel about...
As for my own approach to upgrading: I was and still am a fan of Disney animation. Several years ago (early-middle 90s) I had a number of titles on VHS, but at one point I concluded that the VHS format really wasn't sufficient - and I had at that time really nothing else in particular to compare...
This wasn't that bad, but it has occured that discussions about people's "policies" for their DVDs collections have become really ugly. Something along the line of...: Those who have only half as many DVDs as I have are really "lesser" collectors, while those who have twice the size of my...
I think I've got most of the "missing" shorts somewhere (most of them on various laserdiscs). But since we've got ~85% of the classic shorts in the Treasures line so far I simply want it all "wrapped up" there - that's my main concern here. The fact that the rest of the shorts can be found "here...
Yes, you're basically correct. Apart from the 50+ remaining DD shorts, there are IMO just five more "really essential" classic shorts - Susie The Little Blue Coupe, Casey Bats Again and the three (?) C&D shorts. These could just as well be included in the DD volumes. I think that's what we...
Hey, that doesn't help much. Pluto may be pretty "lame", but some of us still love this material! ;) As much as I enjoyed all of the material released in the Treasures series (including live action), I still think it's just fair to say that the classic animated shorts were the main...
Very, very true - from my point of view. The Treasures are practically the only Disney product I've been interested in over these past few years. Let's take action and contact the right people. We should make it clear exactly what's missing and why it'd look bad to leave it like that -...
Considering the fact that the rest of the classic animated shorts have been included in the WDT line so far, we definitely NEED the remaining 50+ DD shorts. These two volumes (?) could also include the three or so C&D shorts and Susie and Casey that for some strange reason were not included in...
