Does anyone know whether this DVD can be ordered exclusively from Animeigo? I'd like to order it, but they don't ship to Europe. Will it be available at other online stores some time in the future? thanks, Mathias
Fun flick, but I'll go with the french disc, which does not only have DTS, but also the uncut version of the movie (the deleted scenes from the R1 are in the movie itself) and some more deleted scenes as extras which do not appear on the US Disc. -Mathias
>Universal owns the film in the US. MGM has never had anything to do with it< Not "quite" right. MGM has aquired the international rights to AOD (though at the time, I´m not sure whether that includes the US). MGM has been working on the Director's Cut (from FILM elements, finally!) and will...
All this got me thinking: is there a bitrate limit, i.e. a point where your usual DVD player would not be able to handle the amount of data? Just curious... -Mathias
I like the movie, but I don't understand why they have to put DTS tracks on films like these. The soundtracks are dated, and even DTS can't help there. DD 5.1 would have done the job just fine, and there would have been more bits for the picture. DTS-ES 6.1 on BAD TASTE? Come one! -Mathias
Didn't notice anything unusual on my copy. There's something else about that scene, though. Blade falls in with nothing but his pants, and comes out wearing his vest... -Mathias
This is a must-buy for me. But sure this is rated "R"? I thought the director's cut version was unrated (with the cut theatrical version being rated "R"). Just curious... -Mathias
Just one question: is this supposed to be THAT dark? It's hard to make out any details on this disc. I admit that I like my picture a bit darker usually but this is almost unwatchable. Is this what Martin Scorsese wanted it to look like or did Buena Vista screw this up? I hadn't seen the film in...
@ Randy: I think Carpenter said that because he has already done his commentary for They Live (has been released on dVD in Germany about 2 months ago, together with "Prince of Darkness" which also features a new Carpenter commentary). Maybe they will find their way to R1 sometime in the...
best: Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) worst: none come to mind. I wonder, though, why dialogue driven films like "I am Sam" even need DTS. Better put those bits into the picture. (not that I would complain about eh I Am Sam disc, which is as good as they get) -Mathias
all 3 of 'em :-) and I thought I'd let you know what to expect when the R1 Box Set comes out in December(?). Part 1: picture quality is great, and I don't think they could have done a better job of presenting a film of this age. I couldn't spot any film artifacts, and the compression was...
I'm sure to pick up Hard Boiled as long it is OAR and featuring the original language track. It couldn't be any worse than the releases currently available. They all stink one way or the other.
Have you played the R3 DVD? It's one of the worst I've seen in a long time. There are so many artifacts it looks like a VCD, and the DTS sound is full of distortions. It's cheap, yes, but the R1 can only be better.
I have the HK DVD of Joint Security Area (JSA) and it IS a great film, one of the best I've seen this year. According to the cover, it has no region code, and it's cheap (got mine from www.dddhouse.com). The picture is non-anamorphic, but the film looks and sounds great. One of the best Hong...
Ditto on the subtitles. They are (almost) identical to the R0. I played the R1 on my front projection yesterday and it did not give me the problems I had with the R0. I also found the picture to be sharper and more colorful.
In comparison, the DD 5.1-TRack is lower on the R1, but when I...
I've seen this Korean blockbuster (that beat Titanic in it's homeland) for the third time now, and it still blows me away. Technically, the new Columbia/Tristar DVD is the best the film has ever looked. If you're a fan of intelligent action thrillers and don't shy away from some over-the-top...
I have to say I'm with Ron on this one. Although I think the original is nnnowhere near a good movie, the remake is only mildly entertaining. The film simply has no thrills, at no point did I doubt they were going to make it. I think Clooney, Pitt and Company spent too much time looking cool...
The R3 is only good for those who are watching on TVs. The picture quality is simply too bad to blow this up for projection. I had the R3 and replaced it with the far superior UK DVD (R2). Another DVD of BR will be released in Germany shortly, I hear.

The original film was a mess. It clearly showed that the people involved were more into partying till late at nicht than shooting this movie. However good the script might have been, the director had to work with whatever scenes Sinatra & friends decided to show up for. It's boring and...
Kenneth, you're right. I just got Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (canadian version) and indeed, it doesn't look very nice. A sticker on the shrink-wrap would suffice, I think.
