    Harmony Smart vs. Harmony Ultimate

The USB port on my old 570 broke off the circuit board and I have a new cable box, so I am in the terrible situation of having 2 remotes  From what I can tell, the smart does everything I need although the recharable battery of the Ultimate is nice, but not worth the extra $220 and I...

    iPod/iPhone connection to Onkyo NR708

I want to use the headphone jack on my 5th gen iPod and my iPhone to connect to the receiver through a headphone to RCA cable (from Blue Jeans). What should I plug it into? My options are phono, TV/CD, PC, Cable/Sat, VCR/DVR, BD available. I think phono has no preamp, but the rest do or are they...

    Standard size for banana plugs?

Never mind, solved my problem. These plugs have a rotating barrel that adjust the thickness of the plug. They came all rotated all the way so they were as thick as possible. I did not realize there was going to be a learning curve on high-quality banana plugs.

    Standard size for banana plugs?

I ordered a bunch of speakers cables for BlueJeans (front L/R/C and Rear L/R). It is just over 50 feet total and I ordered them with banana plugs. Well, now as I am trying to connect them, the banana plugs are all too big for EVERYTHING! They don't fit the Onkyo receiver, any of the Klipsch...

    Basic speaker specs explained?

Ok, I did a quick search, but did not find what I was looking for. I have a few questions about speaker specs from manufacturers. 1. Power handling. Some will list 50-200 max 150. What does that mean? I'm pretty sure I understand the upper limit, but the lower limit is where I am confused. Does...

    Short HDMI cables?

Sorry if this is the wrong section. I want to try to get some short HDMI 1.4 cables to go from receiver to bluray/cable box, etc. I don't need 3 foot cables, I really only need about 6-18 inches. Does anyone make 1.4 cables that short? I don't see them anywhere. Thanks

How to get best sound quality from an iPod or iPhone?

Bluetooth would work for the iPhones, but not iPods. So the best would be out through the 30 pin to something that is a digital dock and connected to the receiver. Does the iPod 5th gen even output digital through the 30 pin?

    Surround speakers: di-pole, bi-pole, WDST?

    1. Why? Not to sound dumb, but right now I have the DT mythos center and am using my old Klipsch RF 3s in front and RS3s in back. Just with the current remodel of the living room, I can't use floor standing speakers any more. I like the sound. 2. they would be facing each other hanging off the...

    Surround speakers: di-pole, bi-pole, WDST?

Below is a quick diagram of my living room. It is 90% of the time just my wife and I to watch TV or a movie, so not worried about the people on the side wall. The diagram is not 100% to scale either, but gives the locations of couches and speakers. I have a Def Tech Mythos Seven center, it is...

How to get best sound quality from an iPod or iPhone?

What is the best way to get music to play from an iPod or iPhone? Is it to use a headphone to headphone cable and connect it to the front of my receiver? Is it headphone to RCA and connect that to the receiver? Is it a 30 pin doc that connects to the receiver? Also, would it be the same for both...

    Reference speakers/receiver worth the price?

Thanks for all the replies. I know that the hearing range of 20Hz to 20kHz is a general thing and some people hear higher or lower than others, but 150kHz just seemed too high to be worth it. I'm going to stick to non-reference stuff. I have my Onkyo NR708 that I'm happy with. I do need to buy...

    Reference speakers/receiver worth the price?

Hello all, I rarely post on here, but have been watching the forum for nearly a decade. I finally have a permanent home to build a home theater. I am an audiophile and have done a lot with my car. My friend that owns the shop that works on my car does a lot of high-end home audio systems in...

    Not buying Onkyo any more

The Yamaha had great sounds I have to admit, but its features and almost bugs that are getting at me. For example, my dvr is connected by HDMI to the receiver. This limits the type of output I can do with both audio and video. It will not let my JVC HDILA TV show pictures in regular, its...

    Not buying Onkyo any more

Well, after 4 days of using the H/K, I am really not happy with it. The list of things I do not like is long. Some things are little, some are major. I am going to call the repair place today and have them repair my Onkyo and return the H/K to bestbuy, at least they have the 30 day return policy.

    Not buying Onkyo any more

Watched my first movie on the H/K last night, got to say, the sound quality was great except what the voices, not sure if this is the lack of THX Certified or what, going to play with settings today to see what I can do.

    Not buying Onkyo any more

I bought a Harmon/Kardon 247 yesterday. The reason I bought it over the Yamaha was that the Yamaha for the same price only handles video through HDMI, not Audio and Video.

I was looking at a Yamaha, the only benefit of the Sony models is they seem to have a 5 year instead of 2 year warranty.

    Not buying Onkyo any more

Well, I hate to say this, but I am not buying Onkyo any more. In the last 10 years, I have had 3 of their receivers. I forget the models on the first two, but the third was the SR 803. I enjoy their products when they work, but only when they work. The first one I replaced because it had no...

Static in my Onkyo SR 803

Hi All, I have an Onkyo SR-803 that is about 2 months out of warranty. I just started getting static out of the front right speaker during high frequencies. I have tried multiple speakers, wires, and input devices and still get this which leads me to believe that it is something in the...

Need input for a new reciever

I am using an "old" Onkyo SR-800 that I have had for about 4 years. The center channel output on it died, so it is time to upgrade. I want 7.1 channel at least 2 HDMI in and 1 out THX and DTS if possible, if not, must have THX Here is what I have at home. JVC HD-ILA tv SONY...

Bad Picture Quality on JVC HD-ILA

Ok, Just did all those settings, it is definetly better. I will do it again tonight since I cannot completely darken the room. It still seems "fuzzy" around the borders of highly contrasting colors such as blue and white. You must have a newer version of the DVD player, mine does not have...

Bad Picture Quality on JVC HD-ILA

Ok, I bought the 52 inch model of the JVC HD-ILA last week. I am not totally happy with the picture quality though. Sometimes the colors seem very "splotchy" and there is alot of fuzzyness around borders or major color tranistions. I have the Sony 400 DVP-CX-985V DVD player. It is connected...
