It's coming!But strangely it's 16:9 after all...http://www.davidsimon.com/the-wire-hd-with-videos/No news on whether or not there'll be a 4:3 bluray version yet.
With Season 4 ever approaching (Spring? May?) there doesn't appear to have been any news of a HD release of the show :( I'm guessing it would have been announced by now if they were thinking of trying to take advantage of the new series? Shame!
What with the new season around the corner, and the movie supposedly coming, you'd think there would be some news on a Bluray release for this fine, fine series. Or at least news of one.
The closest I've found so far is this...
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm glad to hear this isn't commonplace. The store was branded Sam Goody, but the card was an FYE "Backstage Pass". The store was located in the Horton Plaza in San Diego. Here's the small print on my (very long) receipt:
I'm SO glad I happened to notice it...
Hi everyone, I'm currently on holiday in the USA from the UK, and I popped into Sam Goody to see what they had on sale. I ended up spending $173 on Blurays and DVDs. That's the good part of the story :D The bad part is this: When I was the cashier, the girl asked me if I wanted a loyalty card. I...
I think you've been misinformed. The director recut the film himself after showing the extended cut to his friend and mentor Terrence Malick: 'I showed the movie to Terry and he was appalled. He was like: "It's too long, there's too much voiceover, you've got to cut that...
Thanks for the info regarding Warner. A big shame. Not sure about your assertion that the disc was "unremarkable". Every review I've read from the time complains about these technical issues. These are artefacts, plain and simple. It's just as possible to get the same artefacts on a DVD, so why...
Just got my hands on this Bluray and I'm mightily disappointed in the video. There's compressions artefacts everywhere :( It's so distracting. I've never seen this on a Bluray before and I naively picked it up thinking problems with transfers were a thing on DVD past. During the first...
I've heard other people complaining about the boxing... but there's a ton other things that came before it. The real "WTF" moment is when they all started singing Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix... I can only imagine that some folk aren't as aware of that famous song. If people aren't bothered about that...
Oh, I totally agree. The idea was perfect, and showed just how ruthless the aliens are... but the actual shot of them "discussing" it was a very bad idea, not to mention unintentionally funny. (We could have just seen the aftermath of their escape and heard someone say -- "My god, they killed...
Whedon's final script is included on the DVD/Bluray set. It's probably online, too. I can absolutely confirm that there were some horrible decisions made independently from his script. The main "pirate" crew, for example, was supposed to be a really scary group of people -- much closer to a...
I've just read this entire thread. Wow. What a wonderful piece of history this is. Just incredible. The next time there's a remake in the works, I think it's best if we all hold our tongues until it's been given a chance... even if it's a remake of Battlestar Galactica! :) (Apologies for...
Yes, I do take your point that people are not likely to be discriminated against because of having 'two Y Chromosomes'. The media reports back in the 60s that I mentioned did precisely what you're saying it's impossible to do, though. So much so that, 40 years later, a writer decides to use it...
I guess that's true, but it seems the creative team felt the same as me: it WAS wasteful.
Apparently once they made the decision to keep the show in 4x3 (before Season 4 began shooting) they changed how the show was shot: David Insley says, "These later episodes of the show [seasons 4 and...
Quote Bill's Review:
I think I saw somebody asking a while back what was censored from the screen tests. I think anyone who has watched the one with Ripley and Dallas can tell where the terrible and unnatural dialogue is taking the situation... Yes, Sigourney taking her top off. Not sure...
I suppose it's also worth pointing out that I never suggested The Wire have its composition retroactively changed from 4:3 to 16:9. I've added a "4:3" to my original post to hopefully make that clearer.
