Boomy subs at big box electronic stores. You walk in to Best Buy and immediately you know someone is demoing the latest action DVD. Overblown, tubby, bass.........I suppose the sheer volume is suppose to impress J6P. And worse, he goes home with the same shitbox, and duplicates the effect...
It's true. The CC version of Armaggeddon is nicer looking than many anamorphic disk. If you love this moive, you're missing out, just because it's not 16x9. I'll buy Crimson, but I'm not thrilled that it's such a bare bones treatment.
Depends on the the commerical theater and home theater in question. Those high-end theaters you mentioned are among the cream of the crop. No surprise when compared to the average $5000 family room HT. The lines get fuzzy when you spend about 30K on a dedicated room and another 50K in equipment...
How come no talk about my Canes? Definitely among the best stories this year. I've suffered long enough as a Whalers/Hurricanes fan with their mediocrity. This is long overdue. Go Canes!!
That's what I've been crossing my fingers for the day I saw the lame current release, not to mention the high price DW is asking for it. I had a $4 coupon and I didn't even buy it.
I have a question pertaining to longevity of countertops made out of 3/4" granite vs 1 1/2" in terms of fracture, not surface scratches. The standard 3/4" is obviously cheaper and I plan to laminate another 3/4" on all edges to give it a thicker look, without a thinner wallet. The 1 1/2"...
Any scoops on a special edition release? $26cdn around here. Even with a $4 off coupon, it's still pricey for a bare bones release. off topic... As a Bay fan, I'm curious and worried as to what his next steps will be. His formula has worked for me since Bad Boys but I wonder which studio...
I wouldn't mind test driving an Anthem P2. How does it compare to the Bryston? I've never heard them, but they stereotypically (no pun intended) have a forward, brighter sound, with powerful bass.....I guess very "rock and roll." Is the P2 a different beast or just the same style but better...
I agree that Anthem leans towards the "slightly forward" sound. I have a MCA3. If you want a smooth, warm, (dare I say "liquid") sound then try Classe. You can score a CAV-150 (150x6 @8ohms) used on Audiogon. I too like the warm, smooth sound. I find it more organic than an analytical, dry...
I don't drink alcohol. At all. I don't have cable. I don't smoke. No ipod, PDA, portable gaming for me. I'm not religious. I don't understand the appeal of Star Wars, new or old.
Actually it was better than I thought. One of Rob Cohen's better movies, but that's not saying much. The first 30 minutes was quite good. I like the chemistry the three leads had. Their cockiness reminds me of "Top Gun." Foxx was hilarious! Then it went south but still entertaining. One thing I...
BrentM You're right. And I don't mean any offence to Josh (he did say he will pass). It's more of a reference to the likelihood that this flick has no replay value and therefore it's money wasted. Every week there's a new pristine transfer, with thunderous bass, and "aggressive surround...
Why would anyone want to buy this unseen just for the DTS track? Unless you got money coming outta your ass why not just rent it and if it's worth it to you, then pick it up previously-viewed for a couple more bucks? that said, I'll definitely rent it for Biel.
I found the soundtrack fatiguing. I caught myself turning down the volume when it got louder more often than any other flick. I actually tried to search for Cinema Re-EQ on my AVM-20 but couldn't find it. Ended up using THX Ultra 2. I recently added a Classe CA-150 which is a noticeably warmer...
Why is it that people feel just because there are 6hz tones on some dvds that you have reproduce them? As if the movie will lose some of it's intended meaning if those helicopter blades were not felt..... Just when you're setup to do 18hz nicely, sound designers will throw in some 10hz. Then...
Separates or Receivers? That is the the eternal question.... Honestly, it boils down to the size of your bank account. A receiver like a mid-level Denon would more than suffice for an average family room HT with easy-to-drive mainstream speakers like Paradigm. Where separates is going to...
Depending on the size of the center, specifically, the ability to play bass, it should not be near the wall. Stand-mounted 2-3 ft from wall is better, but not eveyone has the space. I modified a pair of $100 Target stands into my center stand. I used the metal bases with the spikes along with...
Don't buy it for its reliability because you'll be disappointed. Probably not as bad as US makes but my mom's 325i (probably MY01) had numerous glitches which required dealer attention. Nothing major but enough to make life annoying and lose confidence once warranty is expired. Kevin, you...
The Proximity Effect is one of my "desert island" cds. I haven't given Let Go enough of a chance. Just don't like paying $25 for a cd because NS is not mainstream.
I doubt you're alone. Why do people pay for something, when based on their past behaviour, they won't take advantage of it. Is it the security knowing it's there whenever the mood hits? I know the LotR:EE series have the 6.1 sound also so I'm sure that's the draw. But if the there was an bare...
