Miguel, Irina, and Marko, Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. When I was in Paris last summer I found that a number of the most recent french films were in fact subtitled in french for the deaf or hard of hearing. Films older than the last few years are very hit and miss. I'll keep...
I'm looking for a list of french films, available on DVD, which are subtitled in french for the deaf/hard of hearing. Region 2 discs are fine, though I would be interested in region 1 also. I am not interested in the latest american blockbusters which are subtitled in french, but rather films...
You might also consider Momitsu, if you have a DVI capable display. An alternative would be Yamakawa. I have a Momitsu, and it works quite well. No region hack was required, rather a so far one time setting change, and it plays all the european discs I've tried. Wes
Vincent and Sam, Many thanks. You've answered my main question. Vincent, thanks for the link to the english help page. I do understand some french, or at least sometimes think I do. The english help will prove useful I'm sure. Wes
Has anyone in a non-EU (eg. the USA ) country ordered region 2 DVDs or other items from the french Amazon operation? Does it automatically deduct TVA? What are approximate shipping charges to the USA for several DVDs at a time? Thanks, Wes
I believe this player has a built-in PAL to NTSC converter. However, can it easily be made region free with a remote hack? Any information appreciated. Thanks, Wes
Scott, You might just consider sticking with what you have, particularly if you like the sound quality. With a hundred watts out now, 200 out will increase the maximum system output only 3dB all other things being equal, which is just noticeable. Wes
Alan, I've recently been looking for front, floor standing speakers as well. I auditioned a number in stores, and ended up auditioning 2 pair at home. My budget was initially higher. Anyway, FWIW I ended up with the Axiom M60ti mailorder. $ 800. I could have spent several times that and not...
Ted, I'll be in France shortly and would be interested in picking up the mk2 Truffaut boxes. Which do you suggest? Do they have english subtitles? Any other suggestions for classic french films that have gotten the mk2 treatment or similar, and which have english subtitles? Thanks. Wes...
OK. So Region 1 discs have a different digital bitstream. That does make it clearer to me that there could be a problem with these DVI out players, unless the display is specifically designed to be compatible with the 720x576 25fps PAL standard. Thanks for the information Jeff. Any current...
I have a rear projector DLP. Supposedly these take the digital information directly, in common I think with the myriad DLP front projectors. Am I wrong on this? Or in other words, is the digital bit stream somehow PAL encoded? If so, do the other digital projection devices such as plasma panels...
Some new players are coming on the market with DVI output. Do these players avoid the need for PAL/NTSC conversion circuitry since they send a digital bitstream to the display? If so, it seems only a region hack or modification would be required for these players. I do realize that only displays...
Michael, Thanks for the information and suggestions. I'll check out the links. At this point it sounds like the JVC 500/600 players or the Malatas remain the best bet for simplicity. Wes
Has anyone had hands on experience with this player. From what I can tell it is easily modified to be region free, and comes from the factory with the ability to put out a PAL as well as NTSC signal. Does the performance compare with the JVC 500/600 series that's available, as well as perhaps...
Good luck. I've been trying to any information on these new displays without success. I've heard rumors that the RCA Scenium 50" LCOS is now actually shipping, but have not been able to find one in the SF bay area. If you do get some solid information, please pass it on.
