I just finished "The Unincorporated Man" - it's an okay read. Simple in style and heavy on exposition - lots of monologues just like in Inception! :P Now I'm starting Peter F. Hamilton's Evolutionary Void - 3rd book in the trilogy that just came out. A huge sprawling space opera that is...
I finished reading the Takeshi Kovacs "trilogy" (Altered Carbon, Broken Angels, Woken Furies) by Richard Morgan. Kind of like film-noir SF. Not bad! The science wasn't the best but the writing is pretty gnarly and entertaining! Now I'm reading "The Incorporated Man" - another SF novel, where...

Jack, same reason for me - well sort of - I went to that "other" forum to 'fight' the future there! But another reason why my postings dropped to a trickle here was that I spent a huge amount of time on my HTPC and writing thousands of posts on HTPC setup and technical...
Let's hope this version is at least as good as the Sky-HD h264 1080p broadcast from last year. Even if the video isn't as good, the audio should be stellar!
Peter F. Hamilton's The Temporal Void. Pretty good continuation of the Commonwealth series. Charlaine Harris' Dead Before Dark (Sookie Stackhouse). Not very exciting, but I do hope to catch the True Blood TV series soon.
That princess in DragonSlayer was pretty hot! But I wonder - the baby dragon feeding might have pointed me towards cannibalistic hentai in my later years! It warped my little mind.
Sam: Yes, I have the same "issue" with audio - it is VERY quiet. I have to turn up the audio +10 db over the usual listening volume. It can be quite a shock when you go to the main menu after an episode finishes playing!
Hand puppet ending? That'd be awesome!
What, you haven't drunk the Blu kool-aid? OMG Steve! Get your catwoman to punish you!
Or am I confusing you with someone else? Hmmm. It's been a while...
Oh and I like the Wallace and Gromit tie-in... you should be a Warner exec!
Maybe Warner delayed the Contact Blu-ray so they could work on the epic battle with F18s taking on giant alien motherships!
Either that, or Warner is working extra hard on their new DNR encoders to make Contact look like a claymation movie!
Russell: testy meet, in edmonton? But---why? I thought Edmonton was too minor of a city for such a thread as huge as this???
Hmmm haven't been to the princess theater in a while - but I guess we don't have to worry about hockey hooligans this year huh? :O
Russell, I remember you! Yeah, I am from Edmonchuck! Not living there right now though. 300 km south in some hick town.
I knew most of the people that were inspiration for the characters in the Space Moose comic, but I never met the famous Adam Thrasher himself - even though he was in one of my...
I don't think a receiver that converts HDMI signals to analog RGBHV exists. And if it did exist, it would not allow copy-protected (HDCP) signals to be converted to analog anyways.
I don't think you can get 1080p over RGBHV out of ANY blu-ray player. They only put out component video using 1080i. If you use a PC with a Blu-ray player + software you can probably do it. The wiring should have been HDMI in the first place. :frowning:
Oops - after running the translator, it looks like each box is 21,000 yen each. Ouch! Translated version of http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20090416_125542.html
Hey, looks like Bandai announced the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex complete series, for release in Japan, August 25th, 2009 (I think that's the date). It includes TrueHD japanese soundtrack, english DD51 soundtrack. However, I did not see anything other than Japanese subtitles on...
Hmm, it's been a LONG while since I've been in this thread --- or the HTF for that matter! I'm enjoying some anime on Blu-ray disc right now...but so far the PQ has been hit and miss (Tekkonkinkreet is a big hit for PQ though).
Alanna: I don't know if anyone licenses the Nana anime yet, but you could try giving that a go if it ever gets released here. Same manga author as Paradise Kiss. I also highly recommend the Paradise Kiss manga.
I'm having issues with banding/posterization in the underwater scenes. Particular at the 27 minute mark. I'm using an HTPC, via DVI. HometheaterSpot's review also reports posterization. It is also noticeable on an LCD monitor and not just my Benq 8700+. Another person on AVS reports that the...
Ergo proxy gets pretty cool - although I stopped watching at around episode 13 because it appeared to have jumped the shark. I may rewatch it, and finish it, one day. I heard that it ends well, so that is promising. :) Some rumors/reports that Bluray versions of some anime will be released...
What? David you don't have a 1080p projector yet? I'm SHOCKED! Shocked I tell you!
You still using that dinosaur Benq 8700+ right? Me too. *sigh*
The PQ on this was really good. Headshot blowback in HD - beautiful!
