I remember passing on the first season on DVD because it wasn't widescreen, and the discounted price was around $40 at the time, so $60 for a high def version isn't outrageous for 20 hours of high def content.
Almost every action scene could have been cut in half time-wise and the movie would have lost no story, and overall the movie would have been less taxing to watch, and 30 minutes shorter. That said, I still appreciate the movie, and at $20, I will probably upgrade my HD-DVD version at some point.
I rented this and was a bit disappointed by the picture quality, definitely looked like the brightness of the image was cranked up, at first I thought something was wrong with my projector. The detail was there, just washed out.
VHS projected on a 10 foot screen can be considered unwatchable, no argument there. Home theater soundtrack at nearly double the bitrate of the theatrical soundtrack can never be consider unlistenable by any definition.
I also went from mostly buying to mostly renting. When I first picked up an HD-DVD player and a PS3 a couple years back along with a new 1080p projector, I was buying a steady amount of high def content, as the deals got better and better (pretty much all movies available for $8 to $10 from...
I'll definitely rent the director's cut on blu to see the movie again, as it's been a long time since I've seen it. Isn't this this the movie where Nixon had knowledge beforehand of both JFK and RFK assassinations? Gotta love the Stone conspiracies in his biographes.
I happened to be at Target and decided to get I Robot and ID4 on impulse. I passed on Commando and Predator for now since they appear to be old transfers, single layer and featureless. Also passed on Unbreakable since $20 is the regular price at Amazon, so I'll wait and see if I can get a better...
I get what you are saying, it's worth $17.50+tax at CC, but the price at Amazon has been $18.95 for quite some time, and after tax, the CC price isn't a great deal, that's my point. I want to own it (I enjoyed the rental), but I'm realistic about how much I should spend to add more HD-DVDs to my...
Sony has Saawariya scheduled to come out in another month or so. I imagine if it sells well, they may release other Hindi films in their catalog like Lagaan.
Yeah, I may stop by too to see what is left over. Unfortunately, the main titles that I'm interested in, like Stardust or Zodiac, are listed at $35, so still not worth it even at 50% off.
Just watched this one last night! I'm real surprised at the lack of discussion of this great movie. Perfect for high-def viewing, wonderfully clear nature cinematography, just like watching the discovery channel, with a gripping story to go along. I thought for sure that special effects were...
I know this movie was an unrated cut of a violent PG-13 movie, but holy-cow this was much much more violent and bloody than any R rated movie I've seen this past year, including several horror films. Definitely do not allow young kids to watch this one.
Speaking of T2 on laserdisc, being a big fan myself I even picked up a second copy of T2 in full screen later when I found out it was filmed soft-matte super35, so I could see "more" of the movie. I was passionate about widescreen, but there is something about a favorite movie to own all flavors...
I bought an open box XA2 a couple months ago at Best Buy for $250, and it came with a extra rebate reciept and 5 free rebate form to send in, so hopefully I qualify even without the player being "new". I also got 3 free instantly in store. I guess I'll find out in another month or so whether...
Thanks for the info. I picked up Anchorman, Old School, and Top Gun. Had been meaning to pick those titles up for a while, but was waiting for a good price.
I'm sure they have 1000s of mail-in offers to process with the recent price drop to $129 on Amazon. Even Best Buy & Circuit City has had ads with the new lower price and the 5 free offer. I have to imagine (hope?) that Toshiba has inventory already in place to fulfill the free movie offers based...
I don't own Sister Street Fighter, but I have had several Blu-ray discs skip (just last week Mr Woodcock skipped), even though the disc looked perfect.
I've seen "Assassination of Jesse James" and "Game Plan" as Very Long Wait since the day they were released. I keep my queue completely empty until I get the title I want, but I don't think I'll be getting these titles anytime soon even though I haven't gotten a movie from them in a while.
I think the screen was around $500 or so after shipping. I bought it from AVScience, but I think B&H has it for a similar price if I remember correctly. The model number of my projector VPL-VW50 which was replaced last year with the VPL-VW60.
I couldn't care less about the movie. I just wanted to say that I rented it from Blockbuster and that the first site I thought of had it available for purchase.
Watched the blu-ray disc earlier this week. Got it from Blockbuster Online. Took a while to get used to seeing Alec Baldwin playing a sex symbol and making out with Sarah Michelle Geller though.
