Get off your high horse. You've contributed to your share of embarrassments, whether it was the Microsoft hissy-fit or the unwarranted attack on Peter Bracke on this very forum that the moderators had to delete.
Feeling a little sensitive there, Bill? I don't know why YOU are piping up about this. I didn't name you, nor was I referring to you. You're responding to an argument that I didn't make.
From the World English Dictionary-
ignorant-
1.
lacking in knowledge or education; unenlightened
2.
lacking in awareness or knowledge (of): ignorant of the law
3.
resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or awareness...
Many people, probably most people, are completely ignorant about color timing and movies. Many people, probably most, are going to be completely ignorant about color changes between the previous releases and this release (and pretty much that's the case for all Blu-ray releases that don't go to...
Actually I was referring to the "biggest complainers." And even though he gave it an overall positive rating (which he pretty much had to considering he gave the TE 3 out of 5), Kenneth Brown has definitely been one of the biggest complainers.
So you're saying that people are still going to be happy watching their original Blu-rays of FOTR or Gladiator or Gangs of New York after watching the newer versions? After all, it either pleases someone visually, or it does not.
And two prominent reviewers. Of course, they don't count. They obviously obsessed over the release with their overly long and highly detailed reviews, and have no ability to be objective.
I'm sure virtually everyone else enjoyed the TE disc too. Ignorance is bliss.
Peter Jackson DID weigh in personally. It's right
Hey, it made me laugh. ;)
The reality is, you're right: At this point anyone who is convinced either way is unlikely to change their minds. Peter Jackson himself could weigh in personally and people on these forums (well, maybe not HTF...
Could this be a new transfer? I have the 2000 DVD release. Surely they aren't using going back that far. There was another release a few years later, but I don't know if it looked any better than the 2000 release.
"They" did not state that both Peter Jackson and Andrew Lesnie supervised and approved this transfer. Go ahead and try to find that Warner quote or name someone paid by Warner who said so.
As for Dracula, we had actual quotes from Kim Aubry on the matter. That was more informational than...
Making a short official statement like "all final disc content has been reviewed and approved as correct by Peter Jackson" won't confuse anyone. Warner doesn't have to mention green tint. So you think such a statement would make it out to the general public, when right now the controversy only...
I've kinda given up on the grain issue. That's the way I remember it too, but no authorities on film have questioned the presentation of EWS on Blu-ray, so there isn't much basis to prove that Warner is at fault here.
Agreed. I can totally understand keeping quiet about an error until after the release date, as long as they deal with it in an appropriate manner afterwards.
So since Kubrick died, Warner has done the following:
1. Censored Eyes Wide Shut in the theaters
2. Refused to release an uncensored version of Eyes Wide Shut on DVD, despite the availability of the uncensored version in other parts of the world.
3. Released open matte 4:3 versions of The...
Yeah, poor Warner and poor Peter Jackson, who allowed a subpar release of the TE of FOTR to be released under the guise of a "new master." Where is your sympathy for the people who were bilked by that release? Warner didn't do a proper job the first time, so why give them the benefit of the...
People who continue to use Kenneth Brown's name as a positive towards this release might want to look at the comments that he has made in the last couple of days. A couple select quotes-
The reason many are reporting they aren't seeing the tint is because without a pure white reference or...
You don't have to watch the discs to know that there are elements about this release that don't add up. One reviewer sees green, another reviewer sees white. FOTR has colors changed, but the other two films do not. Warner has so far refused to officially confirm that the colors are correct...
He was referring to the UK section of the forum, not the much bigger main thread. Not that it solves anything, as right now it looks like one person saw the green tint, and one person didn't.
People aren't going to make up their minds about their release until they've actually watched it...
Even the most vocal detractor has said that out of the 208 minute movie, only about 15 minutes are objectionable. To some, and perhaps most people, this will be no big deal. Going by the reviews, many casual viewers won't even notice. Then again, that is no different from most problematic...
Hunt said "No," in response to the question "But hasn't reviewer Ken Brown at blu-ray.com confirmed what he sees is consistent with the screen captures?" Regardless of what Brown said in his review (which doesn't contradict his later statement anyway), Brown did confirm that what he saw was...
Wrong. Kenneth Brown HAS indeed made that confirmation.
"However, the specific scenes you mentioned look very much -- I'd say exactly like, actually -- the majority of screenshots that have been floating around for weeks now. Hope that helps!"
If you go to that link, at the bottom is a quote from a Warner representative, who says they DID have access to this information.
Wells site also just posted a response from Leon Vitali, who is even more befuddling.
