Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect 2 Hsu VTF-2 subs. The instruction manual states that to get the most low level signal from the sub out of your receiver you should use a y connector to send signal to both the rca inputs on the sub,(which are labeled mono and L.) Now...
My brother is looking for an a/v unit under $300.00 for college. Of course need DD and DTS but would like to buy as much quality high current power as possible. I was thinking maybe HK or Onkyo. Any advice? Any specific units you have or might prefer?
Thanks in advance,
BEN
Bryan,
I'd say that is about perfect for what I want. Any opinions on the Belden shielded wire? For example,
item # 27111AS
12 gauge x 4 conductors and aluminum shielding in PVC jacket.
I haven't found out how much this is yet, but it looks pretty nice.

Tom,
Thanks again for the info. I came to the same conclusion before you posted regarding the crossover point of the HP. I think I'll stick to that unless my ears surprise me with a different opinion.
Thanks,
Ben
Chu,
Fair question. I really don't want to spend more than a buck a foot right now as I have about 25 foot runs to my rears. By the way, I did look over on eBay and couldn't find anything that wasn't clear or with wild colors.

Tom,
I had another question for you. I've been looking around online trying to bring myself up to speed on powered subs. I read on the Home Theater Magazine website that you do not want to use the receiver's sub out low cross over and the sub's crossover at the same time. They say you can...
I am looking for some inexpensive 12 gauge speaker cable. I don't need anything fancy, but would like to find cable that looks fairly nice. I don't want the clear plastic look, but I don't feel like paying a ton of money right now for wire. Any suggestions? I was hoping to find something in a...
Jeremy,
I was thinking Tom could make the box out of clear plexi and paint the driver and amp white... That way I could set the sub next to the mantle and no one would even know it was there!
Tom,
Again, thanks for the input. I will definitely look around to demo both the servo 15 and the HGS 12". So if I went with the dual Hsu subs, you're thinking one should be in that right corner next to the opening to the hall and the other one on the left behind the sofa correct? I've heard...
Universal,
It's time you recompense your faithful customers and replace our DEFECTIVE Jurassic Park DVDs. I too have a disc with serial # PEMC-D2R1. There is no comparing the LFE effects with the Lost World DVD I own. I have 19 other DVDs which are Universal discs. That adds up to a lot of...
Tom,
Sorry to take so long to reply. I was out of town. So THAT'S who you are. Well, thanks again for the input. The problem is my wife has nixed any tube sub design. Boxes are better to her because at least she can throw a blanket over them. So that means the Hsu TN25s are out as well...
Tom,
First of all, thanks a lot for the advice. Realized you were with SVS. What do you do for them? I had considered SVS subs before, especially since I have an Onkyo Integra dual mono amp that puts out 260 wpc at 4 ohms. I thought that I could power a passive sub or two, but I haven't been...

I suspect you are right in terms of my mains. That is their listed freq. extension but I suspect it's more like 30-40 Hz. Thanks for the info!
Ben
Hi all. Have a HT/Living room that is 29x13 with the HT on 1 of the short walls. I can buy a used Paradigm Servo 15 for about 1k or I could get 2 Hsu VTF-2 subs for the same money. The Servo 15 could go lower (16 Hz vs. the VTF-2 at 25 Hz) but I thought I might have better coverage in such a...
Hi Fellows,
Thought since you had questions about Swans Divas I might suggest the following link:http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/004801.html
Besides several in depth reviews of the Diva line from those who have already purchased them, we have had the remarkable good fortune to have...
Everybody,
Thanks so much for your input! I have a lot to explore now. I have another couple of questions though. I have a standard sony DVD changer. I am wondering what types of recording technology I can avail myself to. I know I can't play SACD or DVD audio in their 6 channel formats, but...
I was wondering if anyone could recommend recording labels that specifically try to cater to those with higher end stereo systems by creating higher end recordings. I was also curious as to what formats, if any, offer any advantages to regular 16 bit pcm cds without having to gear up for DVD...
John,
Hi and welcome to the forum. I had the chance to demo the Monitor Silver 9s about 4 months ago. Did direct listening against the PSB Stratus Golds on the same equipment (Denon avr 5800). Have to tell you I want amazed at the quality of the Monitors. I was very impressed with the low end...
