HDMI Receiver - Denon, Marantz or others?!

I've had Denon receivers and listened to the latest Denon receivers. I'm biased toward Marantz if you listen to music. Both are great on movies. IMHO.

Will you pay $500 for hardware upgrade from AVR-4806 to AVR-4806CI?

At this point in time, I think that you would be wasting your money. I haven't seen very many posts that say that 1080p us better than 1080i or 720p, depending upon the source. Once HD comes out with at 1080p, and you have a 1080p projector/display, then I might consider it, but any reports...

What Receivers Have the Most Musical Sound, Best Build Quality?

Fernandez: I have not doubt that it sounds great. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between yours and mine. Thanks for clearing that up. Greg

What Receivers Have the Most Musical Sound, Best Build Quality?

Fernandez: Are you SURE about that Jan 05 introduction? I bought my 8500 in October (or was it Sept.?)... anyway, I don't think Marantz would introduce both receivers in the same year so close together... just wondering. If the 8400 was introduced only one year ago, and the 8500...

What Receivers Have the Most Musical Sound, Best Build Quality?

Well, I owned a Denon 3805, and with my Paradigm speakers, it sounded a bit "muddy". I returned it and bought a Rotel 1056. Clearer sounding, bu a bit thin. I would have kept it if 3 out of 3 of them malfunctioned (Rotel has had a lot of QC problems with the 1056) Then I listened to...

    Marantz or Pioneer Elite?

That's a pretty good explanation, Eric. AutoSetup actually sets the crossover to the sub (some don't), the speaker distance, whether the speaker is large or small (a large speaker gets all of the sound frequencies and a small gets only the frequencies above the subwoofer cutoff). AutoEQ...

    Marantz or Pioneer Elite?

I bought a Marantz 8500 about 3 months ago. Auditioned the Denon 3805, Yamaha 2500, had THREE Rotel 1056's in my home (gave up on that model), and then the Marantz 8500. Sweet, sweet, sweet. Paradigm Focus mains, CC270 center, ADP170 surrounds. The 8500 is barely cruising to push those...

A warm sounding receiver for my B&W 600 setup - need help.

The Marantz receivers do NOT have auto-EQ at this time, except for the pricey 9600. They have auto-calibration, but not of the EQ. I was hoping that my new 8500 had it, but it doesn't. Only the 9600 has a 9 band parametric EQ.

Yammy 2500, Denon 3805, Marantz 7500? Musical, neutral, even laid-back

The 3805 sounded a bit muddy and veiled to me. I got the 8500 tonight and tried it on the tube, about 5 CDs, a movie, Diana Krall - Live in Paris, and a few cuts from the Eagles Farewell I Tour in Melbourne. Just what I was looking for! The Rotel was a tiny bit thin. The 3805 I...

Yammy 2500, Denon 3805, Marantz 7500? Musical, neutral, even laid-back

Well, my THIRD Rotel 1056 is going back, and luckily my dealer just started selling Marantz (they dropped Denon), so I'm going down to pick up and 8500 today.

Weight of receivers a significant factor?

Well, my THIRD Rotel RSX-1056 is having problems, so luckily my dealer just started selling the Marantz 8500, which I will be picking up today. Rotel is having a very bad run on the 1056's in the last few months. Even their "stepped up" Quality Control unit which unboxed the receivers when...

Marantz 9200 upgraded to 9300 used or 8500 new?

Marantz 9200 upgraded to 9300 used or 8500 new?

Here's the deal. I'm looking at the Marantz 8500 for $1800 MSRP CAD. They also have a used 9200, that they would software upgraded to a 9300, that has a little over a year left of the 3 year warranty for $1950 CAD. Which would you choose? Thanks! Greg

Weight of receivers a significant factor?

I talked to my Marantz dealer and he said basically when you get to this level of component, it is the SOUND that makes the difference. So, if the 3rd Rotel doesn't work, I'm going for the 8500 (possibly - see my new thread.) P.S. The T753 is not toroidal. The 8500 is toroidal.

Weight of receivers a significant factor?

Hmmmmmmmmmm........ I'll go with the sound, which is the Marantz IF the Rotel doesn't work out. It still kind of bugs me though that a 7.1 "one down from the flagship" receiver can way only 32 pounds. Oh well. The 8500 has some great reviews out there!

Weight of receivers a significant factor?

Hi. If my Rotel 1056 doesn't come back fixed (which I hope it does), I have chose the following in my price range to consider (Rotel included for comparison). I was quite surprised to see quite a difference in weight. NAD T753 $1500 CAD 90 w/ch 6.1 ch - weighs 45.1 lbs...

Yammy 2500, Denon 3805, Marantz 7500? Musical, neutral, even laid-back

Thanks, Skip. I like the sound of the Rotel pretty much, and the 75 watts per channel have been independently measured at the full 75 watts for all channels driven at 8 ohms at .05 THD. It is only 5.1 channel, but with a 2-channel amp addition, it will become a 7.1 channel set-up. Rotel...

Yammy 2500, Denon 3805, Marantz 7500? Musical, neutral, even laid-back

They've ordered my 3rd 1056 and if it has the same problem, Marantz is second on my list. Thanks to everyone!

Yammy 2500, Denon 3805, Marantz 7500? Musical, neutral, even laid-back

I'm having hiss problems with my Rotel 1056, of which I like the sound, although it could be a little "warmer", "neutral", "laid-back", although those are not all synonymous. 75/25 music/movies. I think all of these are roughly the same price. I have average sensitivity speakers, and...

    Paradigm Monitor's (esp. 5's)- extended break-in needed?

Well, my Rotel 1056 has a buzz/hum problem, so I'm going to get Rotel to send me one brand new as close to "just off the assembly line" as possible. If it still has that problem, I guess I have to look elsewhere. Here's hoping I can get a good one since I do like the Rotel sound. ------...

Sony Pictures continues to drop existing widescreen transfers

I've heard that Sony is looking seriously into downloadable movies. Maybe THAT will be the way we get the widescreen format for SD movies, and the HD/Blu-Ray standard will get the widescreen format. I'm just throwing out possibilities. Opinions? Greg

    leaning towards Paradigms again

Don't let the Atoms affect your choice of speaker. The Atoms are great little speakers, but don't represent the entire Paradigm line. I have Paradigm Titans, CC-170 center and ADP-170 surrounds. I liked them fine, and wanted to upgrade. I listened to the Mini Monitors, because they...
