"Bob, I believe the topic was what sub do you ACTUALLY HAVE IN YOUR CAR. Not which HSU sub would be the best in your car. Come on, seriously control your post content.
It's almost like poeple pay you to do what you do."
And how is this post relevant to the topic at hand other than you...
Hsu Research ( www.hsuresearch.com ) makes automotive subwoofers which are apparently very very good.
Tom Nousaine said the following about the ASW1201:
"this 1.6-footer will deliver 121.7 dB at 12.5 Hz with less than 10% THD. Maximum SPL hits 123.9 dB at 50 Hz with 10% THD. Frequency...
The VTF-3 should be a major improvement over the VTF-2. It should play noticeably louder and lower than a VTF-2. And the VTF-2 has tested very well in the past. Apparently it will have even more output in max output mode (but less extension) than a TN1220HO.
According to their website, the...
Steve, the DT's have a nice slim profile. Both Mirage and DT have subwoofers which have piano-black gloss endcaps just like the DT loudspeakers. As for profile, the Hsu TN series is very slim and actually takes up no more floor space than my DT loudspeakers.
"BobA, just a quick question. What do you have against SVS? Are you afraid of how much you'll like thier subs?"
Any of the subwoofers mentioned here should perform well based on the objective data. I prefer a different (more traditional?) look. The SS series from SVS is perhaps an...
Steve, it is not a money issue. My setup is in the family room for now. No external sub allowed there. In the future I will try to set things up in the basement.
I appreciate the thought here, Steve. Really. I will be buying a subwoofer(s) down the road. Just give me some time. I will probably be looking at Hsu Research, VMPS, Adire Audio, and Mirage. Right now I am 90% music, no external subwoofer. After I get an external subwoofer, I will also buy an...

They are also selling the VTF-3 for $849 with FREE shipping.
DT does make direct radiators too. For the bipolars, you want to give them about 5-10 feet in between the speakers, using a slight toe in towards the listening position (start with the side-firing woofers kept away from the side walls and firing outwards), and you want to give them about 2-3...
I think any of those speakers you mentioned should sound great for music and movies. I know that Def Techs are particularly difficult to properly set up in a store. Email me and I can give you some tips. The bp2000TL's should be wonderfully musical. I know a couple people who have preferred...
Barry, I don't think you will find too many people who have heard this sub, because it has just recently come out. Have you considered ordering one and comparing?
Usually this is due to placement issues/restrictions. Try to isolate the center channel from the tv if possible. Also, if possible, try moving the center channel forward using a slight overhang keeping the front of the center channel slightly in front of the tv edge. Finally, if possible, try...
Why would I go with a single VTF-3 over two VTF-2's? The VTF-3 is a newer design, it looks nicer, it will extend lower, and you have a nice single enclosure.
IMHO, at that price point, people should be looking at the TN1220HO w/ 250 watt amp vs. VTF-3.
Eric, value is a relative thing. And of course, measured output can't tell you the entire story about bass quality. Some people would gladly spend a little more money to buy a TN1225HO over a VTF-2, because they feel that the performance and/or aesthetic difference is worth the money. The...
Alexis, I would go with the single VTF-3. This sub could very well represent the biggest bargain in Hsu's lineup. Feel free to email Dr. Hsu and ask for his opinion about the matter. [email protected]
Eric, the Hsu TN1220HO + 250 watt amp is $849 direct from Hsu. This sub was tested as -3db @ 15Hz. It was tested to have 110db of clean output at 20Hz. It can also be easily moved around for optimal positioning, and takes up less floorspace than any other sub that I know of. The Hsu amps are...
This sub looks really nice. It should be able to fit in just about any decor scheme. Apparently the VTF-3 in max output mode will have even more output than the TN1220HO. The TN1220HO itself was measured to be -3db at 15Hz, with clean output of 110db at 20Hz (with the 250 watt amp). Both of...
Email Dr. Hsu and he can tell you how this subwoofer compares to his other subwoofers. Apparently the VTF-3 in max output mode will have even more output (but slightly less extension) than the TN1220HO.
Either way, with the TN series or with the VTF-3, I do not think anyone can go wrong...
Hey Frank, how are you enjoying those TN subs? I have heard great things about them. Seem to be very reasonably priced too. I have never seen a subwoofer take up less floorspace than those TN subs.
The Hsu VTF-3 info is up on their website now. It looks very nice!

"To truely understand the differences between a tower speaker and a bookshelf I am beginning to think that there can really be no comparison unless we are speaking about two sets of speakers from the same company sharing the same primary components and design philosophy. "
Exactly!!! I do...
IMHO, it is a myth that Def Tech speakers do not sound good with music. With poor setup and with associated equipment that does not match well with them, then I can understand people forming such conclusions.
How much are you getting the ProCinema package for?
