Sorry to hear your account got hacked. They're getting more and more sophisticated at cracking passwords. A while back I started using a password manager (very good app that's on Windows and Mac and iOS) and now my passwords are all incomprehensible strings of random numbers, digits and...
Congrats Craig and Ron, and welcome to the iMac Club!
I was initially a bit nervous about going for an all-in-one but I can honestly say that two years later, my iMac (the initial Aluminium model) is the best computer I've owned. Not just because of OS-X, but the build quality, quietness and...
Having just found out that my TomTom One XL won't bluetooth with my iPhone, this new dock looks like an interesting solution.
Does anyone know if the TomTom App supports services like live traffic and speed camera updates?
It would cost me £99 for the dock and a further £60 for the app. Even...
Great, thanks. I'm in the UK so won't be able to use macsales.com (looks a good site though).
I'm thinking about Crucial RAM as they have a compatibility guarantee and lifetime warranty.
My 2 years old iMac is doing great, but I was thinking about upgrading the RAM to 4GB.
It's a 20" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with 2Gb of 667MHz RAM (2x1Gb). It doesn't feel slow, but would I get any noticeable
improvements by increasing to 4Gb?
Would upgrading the RAM invalidate my Apple Care...
The two CS3 products I use are Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
Photoshop CS3 installed OK and seems to be working although I've only done some limited testing with some minor edits.
Dreamweaver CS3 installed OK but is already showing problem signs. Some of the panels don't refresh properly.
Looks...
Thanks for the info. I'll give CS3 a try on my iMac whilst I've got SL on it but before I restore all my other stuff. It looks like I might have to go back to Leopard on my iMac so that I can keep using Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS3.
I was also thinking of getting a Scan Snap scanner later this...
@DaveF: Have you had any problems running CS3 on SL? I want to upgrade my iMac, but don't want to have to get CS4 (I might get CS5 next year for the 64bit support).
That said, I've been using Pixelmator on my MacBook and been very impressed with it (runs on SL and considerably cheaper too!).
Ron, from that link it looks like it should be OK. For the sake of $38, I'd get one of those first and test in your existing MBP. Then you know it'll be OK before shelling out for the new MBP. It does look like it will stick out a long way though? Might put a bit of stress on the USB slot if...
Ron, before getting the new MBP make sure the USB to express card adapter will work with your card. Some express cards won't work with these adapters - the ones that are PCIe based probably won't work. USB based express cards should work OK. I *think* wireless cards are USB based, but I'm not...
Hmm, I only recently bought a MacBook 13" and they've now gone and updated it! Essentially it's very similar to my current machine with the (re)addition of FW and a new SD card slot which I don't need, but not the extra graphics of the other Pro models. I'm surprised that the PC card slot has...
I've been playing with VirtualBox on my iMac recently and had success running WinXP and Ubuntu without any problems. Haven't tried too much stuff with it though. How does the free VirtualBox software compare with the commercial software like Parallels and Fusion? Edit: Just realised this...
Looking forward to seeing what the new iPhone model will be like - the local phone shop have said they're definitely expecting an iPhone update in June. I think later in the year I'm finally going to buy an iPhone (when my contract with my current provider comes to an end).
I've had my eye on that Fujitsu range for a while now, but my recent new MacBook purchase has put buying one on hold for a little while. I guess they've updated their models since I last looked. They also do a smaller portable version as well, but again I've no personal experience of it. They...
Not that I've finally got a MacBook , what's the best way to sync files between the two? I subscribe to MobileMe which can keep iCal and Address Book etc in sync, but what about files in the home folder? iDisk is a bit slow for larger files. Something like DropBox?
The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510m is supposed to be a fantastic document scanner. Does duplex scanning in one pass and comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat (not sure if it's version 8 or 9 it comes with).
Is there now much difference between the top end Mac Mini and an entry level iMac (apart from the display)? They both now have the newer DDR3 RAM and use the same NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics. Apart from HD capacity and CPU speed, there's not much between them. Also, how does the...
Thanks for the advice. I do like Aperture, but could handle iPhoto until I get back to the desktop. Is it the Ram or the graphics that's the limiting factor with Aperture on a MacBook?
Ever since buying my iMac last year, a little voice has been nagging in the back of my mind wanting me to change my windows laptop to a MacBook. This has gotten stronger now that I'm on the road more and will continue to be for the next year. I've been looking at the new Macbooks trying to...
Ron, FW800 will work with FW400 - you will need a special cable to go from 9-pin FW800 to either 6-pin or 4-pin (probably 4-pin on your camcorder). These cables are readily available (I've got one for my iMac). You might want to look at this article from MacUser magazine here in the UK. There...
I was considering buying a new Mac laptop but have decided to wait until the next round. I'm very disappointed with the lack of firewire on the new Macbook (as are countless others judging from the posts on other forums and Apple's own forum). The new MBP does still have a single FW 800...
I'd been thinking about replacing my aging PC laptop with a Macbook to match the iMac I bought last year. The new Macbook without a firewire port is a big turn-off though. The lack of a firewire port makes it unsuitable for me to connect to my mini-DV video camera :frowning: I'd also been hoping...
I really hope they do. At least this is a start. I was hoping that MobileMe would be a usefull mobile email/calendar/contacts for me to use from home and work, but unfortunately it's not :frowning:
It is a pity that Apple don't make a base unit that's between the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro. Even if Apple offered the Mac Pro with a single Core 2 Duo or Quad instead of the expensive Dual Xeon setup it would be an option. For some people, the thought of an all-in-one iMac is off-putting...
