Well, Amazon cancelled my preorder. It's currently listed on the site as unavailable. So I won't be the guinea pig after all. Guess I'll stick to the current Blu-ray this Easter.
I watched the DVD of this on Halloween, and wondered how much better it would be on Blu-ray. Looks like the answer to that is MUCH better! I'm looking forward to getting this.
I pre-ordered the reissue, hoping for a remaster. I'll either be one of the guinea pigs, or(hopefully) someone else will see get this before mine ships and will give us the good or bad news. If this were a major remaster, I would think we would have heard something about it via Robert Harris or...
I hope it happens. DC is publishing a Batman/Green Hornet comic book that uses the likenesses from both of the television shows, so apparently some kind of agreement was made.
It doesn't surprise me at all that Romero has that effect. He, along with False Face, scared the hell out of me as a kid. The villains are much more sinister in the early episodes.
I'm as broke as anyone(I've had serious medical issues lately), but I agree, Jack. I'm selling other stuff I don't need so I can buy this set. I've waited forever for it, no way I'm missing out on it. Life is too short. But if someone really can't afford it and doesn't have other collectibles or...
My favorite TV show(along with BATMAN). I want to buy this set, but at this price, I hope there's a ton of extra material. The DVD's aren't really all that bad, except for a couple of episodes.
Wonderful post, and I couldn't agree more about how fantastic Newmar and company were in conveying the characters personalities right from the comic books.
I hate to take this too off topic, but any problems with the Superman franchise from the 1978 film until SUPERMAN IV are the fault of the producers(in the case of I-3 the Salkinds, and IV the Cannon group). WB just acted as a distributor for those films and had very little, if any, creative control.
Agreed 100%. I also have to say that I would be a lot more excited to buy some of the merchandise if I had a nice set of the series to put on my shelf. Without that, owning Batman and Robin bobble heads based on the likenesses from a TV show we can't even see in decent quality(and uncut) seems a...
There was a poster with insider connections on a private forum on Facebook that has indicated that an announcement will be coming soon. Maybe it won't be at SDCC, but I think that we will be hearing something in the not too distant future.
Great ideas for the next set! I think DRACULA'S DAUGHTER and SON OF FRANKENSTEIN are excellent movies(as good or better than some of the films included in the current set), and those would be my top choices for the next collection on Blu-ray.
Good to hear, Eric! I'm not quite so sensitive to those problems, so I hope I find myself enjoying this transfer. The old DVD looked like it wasn't from a true Technicolor print, so just the fact that Universal used a real Technicolor source for the Blu-ray is good news to me.
I'm sorry to see that there are problems with the PHANTOM transfer, as it's one of my personal favorites(if far from the best movie in this collection). I've seen other HD transfers of 3-strip Technicolor with registration problems(QUO VADIS comes to mind), but it was never enough to take me out...
That brown look is how I've always seen DEMETRIUS, both on television broadcasts and a 16mm print I used to have. So the Blu-ray doesn't bother me at all; it's still the best I've ever seen it look, even if the color isn't technically correct.
To the best of my knowledge, this is all true. The funeral procession shot cut from FRANKENSTEIN is mentioned by Scott MacQueen on his BRIDE commentary for the DVD. And there are a few pieces still missing from the Maria sequence according to Greg Mank, who wrote superlative books about the...
I rewatched parts of this BD last night. I also noticed some banding in the scene where Jesus meets Martha and Mary after his forty days in the wilderness. I wonder if this is something inherent to the original film, as I know it was shot on a limited budget? I still think most of it looks very...
I did see the banding in the temptation in the desert sequence, and this is far from a perfect transfer. But I do think it's a big improvement over the DVD, and much of the time it looks gorgeous.
I'm pretty easy to please, but I have to agree that the transfer on this BD is one of the worst I've ever seen(judging by the scenes I've reviewed on my projector). It would be nice if a remaster would be done similiar to what happened with GLADIATOR and FIFTH ELEMENT, but since TGSET isn't a...
Films I'd like to see on BD in 2011: The Universal Horror Classics, especially BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and SON OF FRANKENSTEIN VERTIGO REAR WINDOW LAWRENCE OF ARABIA The Marx Brothers films(though the MGM's would probably look better on BD than the Paramounts; I don't know if good...
