I seem to remember the opposite. As in, getting info from the chained up slaves, then shooting them. Such cruelty this game allowed! But, it was fun. I was really into this game and a similar style game - Flashback.
Hey Mike, Good to hear your thoughts on Geedorah. You are correct in calling it a producer's album. Doom raps on only a handful of tracks, but the ones he does are doozies. I love the album opener "Fazers" as well as the track he does with Mr. Fantastik, "Anti-Matter." For non-Doom vocals...
Let me know what you think if it, Mike. As for other Automator stuff, have you heard Dr. Octagon? It's one of my favorite albums, period. Automator also worked with Mike Patton on an album called Lovage: Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By which isn't too shabby. And as I mentioned before...
Hey Mike, Good lookin' out on the Deltron 3030 album. While I don't think it has Dan the Automator's best production on it, it's still a good album. Del tha Funkee Homosapien did 2 tracks with Automator a few years earlier on the Handsome Boy Modeling School - So How's Your Girl? album...
Hi Mike, Glad to hear you picked up Viktor Vaughn. It was in my Top-5 last year. Plus, as someone who used to be a comic book geek I like how Doom is using the same name as Dr. Doom's real name. It also adds a strange twist to the 'Fancy Clown' track from Madvillain. Viktor Vaughn is...
I buy most of this stuff on LP, so it's online for me. Usually from the Sandbox Automatic site that David listed. It's not overly expensive, and that site gives A LOT of free stuff with orders, from mix CDs to T-shirts. However, it's best only for pre-orders. I usually wait until there's about 3...
Trust me, if you like Madvillain then Doomsday is right up your alley. I'd actually put it ahead of Deltron 3030, to be honest, although Deltron is excellent as well. MF Doom has done A LOT of work in the last 2 years (Monster Island Czars, King Geedorah, various 12" singles, Viktor Vaughn) but...
Weird in such a great way! Doom and Madlib seem to fit each other's style well. I've listened to this album numerous times since it's release a few weeks ago, and love it. My favorite track is "All Caps" with the rolling piano loop. If you like this, I'd suggest checking out other albums by...
We've talked about this album before Ange, and I just can't get into it the way I can his other albums. I've tried, but some of the tracks work for me and others just don't. And how has a thread with Kool Keith gone on for so long without mentioning: Oh shit! There's a horse in the hospital!
I'm a big fan of Kool Keith but it's been a while since he dropped a must-own album. Spankmaster had about 2 decent tracks, and The Lost Masters isn't bad, but it's not great either. My theory is that he needs a decent producer to reign him in so he can focus on oddball raps that he does so...
This is a great point. I'm not going to argue that Eric B. and Rakim aren't influential - the albums they made are certifiable classics! But, we've had 15-20 years to reflect on some of that stuff. Will the stuff on my list hold up in another 5-10 years? I'd like to think some of it will, but...
Yeah, after being hyped for almost a year I wasn't sure if the full LP would live up to it. For me it does. I never heard the leaked version, but have both 12" singles. I think it's Madlib's best beat-work in a while, and Doom comes correct, as usual.
Interesting article. I'm a big big fan of rap, and think that there is still amount of great new rap being released. Last year alone saw King Geedorah: Take Me to Your Leader, Charizma + Peanut Butter Wolf: Big Shots, Ty: Upwards, and of course Outkast: Speakerboxxx. This year, there's the...
Here's some of my favorite albums of the year: 1. King Geedorah - Take Me to Your Leader 2. Styles of Beyond - Megadef 3. Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain 4. Madlib - Shades of Blue: Madlib Invades Blue Note 5. Prefuse 73 - Extinguished 6. Herbaliser - Herbal Blend 7. Outkast -...
I just got the new CD a few days ago and enjoy it. As good as Brain is on drums, it was good to hear Herb again. The DVD of extras is a great bonus. I haven't seen any of the videos in years. I've got Cheesy Home Video and Videoplasty, but if memory serves this is the first time DMV, Mr...
Another trip to the CD store, another batch of jazz stuff.
Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin' (what a great album cover)
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Horace Silver and The Jazz Messengers
I've yet to listen to Bitches Brew, but will give it a listen soon.
Another week, another couple jazz purchases. I think I'm starting to get hooked.
Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool
Milt Jackson and John Coltrane: Bags and Trane
My latest purchases just showed up today:
Grant Green: Idle Moments
Modern Jazz Quartet: self-titled
Modern Jazz Quartet: Odds Against Tomorrow
Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out
Thelonious Monk: Best of Thelonious Monk (Blue Note Years)
Love Milt Jackson on vibes from the self-titled...
