there will be a layer of some (basically fiberglass duct board) material under parts, and some other (basically polyfill batting) material under others. havent settled on a source for the fabric.
here's some pictures of what ive been working on for the last forty forevers: http://www.richkraus.com/ht/ lots to do yet, but its at a nice "it's working" point right now (and i finally got the content loaded), so i thought i'd share.
chris white over at HTT was kind enough to adjust my figures (corrected for the RS meter) and turn them into a more readable plot: Some stats (corrected values): average = 67.9 std deviation = 3.28 thanks chris..
the strike drivers are still available :) theres a couple mm difrence in the xmax, and a couple other minor diffrences in the other T/S's there pretty close...
similar to the strikes. they are TC Sounds TC2+ 15"'s believe it or not i dont have excel installed on this machine. i think i may have it on the one in the other room, but my SO is doing homework on that one right now (do not disturb :) ) basically the graph is one HZ/one dB step per...
I left the response curve picture full size to preserve the detail, the link is below. method: burned sine tones from NCH generator, 1Hz steps, 1-85Hz. red line is 70dB/60Hz baseline. utilized radio shack analog dB meter (stock) played tones in 1 hz steps, starting at 85hz...
ben, its important to enphasize the "i wont need a big boxy, ugly, speaker in the room" pitch to soften the IB concept. or do what i have done both times (this is my second IB in as many homes), simply cut the hole and get it finished when she's not home :) understand this requires some degree...
ok, so you cant work IN the attic... is there enough volume to IB the shivas? i had a similar problem, enough room belly crawl to the location to run wire, but no room to work (it opens up to a larger space so the 10XVAS is no problem). result? surface mounting. just cut out a rectangle of...
i think there are plenty of grill options that will work, but im guessing that your not getting many replys since i think the immage, stage, and tone of the speakers will be all but ruined with the fire-through-a-hole method im picturing. also, wouldnt that open the room to heat/ac containment...
yes. it doesn't have to be an attic :) i think obi has a rig (area behind built in RPTV) using a couple of 12's just about like what you describes (less the allmighty tumults :) )
andrew hit it on the head, you want to take a look at the space available to vent into (closet, attic etc....) and then calculate how many drivers that space will support (in terms of 4-10X vas) dont be afraid to cut a hole and vent in to the attic/basement. youll like the sound. its only...
if its isnt already id insulate your garage door. if its the bare metal type it will resonate something fierce and will likley be more annoying than the bass.
thanks james, good to read ya :) nothing really special in regards to the IB, some extra insuation in the attic, and the manifold will be secrured to basically a solid block wall, but other than that, no. the house should be done in another month-6 weeks, and im as excited as i could...
i dont know their retail origin, i bought them *ahem* "already broken in" (used) from a member over at another forum. the price was right and the cones are so purdy, so i had to give them a try....
james you pimp daddy you. lovin the $ in the middle.... i think theres a select few that regularly get to see both sides of their IB keep that IB faith :) !!!!!!! im going to use these lowly tc sounds 15's in my new room, but if they dont cut it im heading the 1804 route too....
as long as there is a ballence between the size of the motor and the size of the cone, there is no reason an 18 couldnt be as "fast" as a 12. FWIW, HERE is a chart of common woofers if you were trying to compare value for woofers in an IB.
thomas is the man. answering questions for 2 IB's in one thread. My feeble brain would crumble at the task. guys, once you go IB- there is no other way. trust me on this one, if you have a way to get it done, you wont regret it...
see thomas, we keep tellin these guys- and yet their supprised when it performs. :) i dont think ive heard an IB gone bad. its simple to build, inexpensive; and for those with the guts to cut "the hole", a path to bass nirvana.
another thought, might want to re arrange so all the HT related breakers are on the same phase (same side of the breaker pannel) i believe this helps reduce hums also....
unless you are planning to go out and forge metal, fabricate wire, resisters, caps, mill heat sinks, ets.. its all sourced from somewhere at some point. i supose some would consider buying off the shelf components and integrating them into a room a DIY home theater. (it did require some...
leap of faith? I upgraded form a first gen NHT 10" sub to my 2 tempest IB. If you build a shiva based sub and are unhappy (really unlikley) you can always take it appart and re sell the driver and amp. I cut a hole in the wall to facilitate my sub. kinda hard to sell that :) The shiva is...
