Moving to new apartment... not sure if it has enough power

Jose, thank you for that update! So I should basically just get a standard 3-pronged outlet and make sure everything is connected? The equipment is connected through a monster HTS1000, so I'm not worried about spikes. The kitchen appliances are on a seperate circuit from the "living room". I'll...

Moving to new apartment... not sure if it has enough power

I went to the apartment to inspect the job the painter is doing and checked out most of what we've been discussing on these pages. The AC idea can be scratched.. it's a 208V circuit. I took pictures of the circuit breaker and will upload them sometime tonight. Do you think that the upgrade to...

Moving to new apartment... not sure if it has enough power

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. Yes, I'll still be in NYC. The building was built in 1960, and it looks like the wiring is still from original construction. My old place surprisingly enough was built in 1929 and has 145A of power if i'm reading the breaker correctly... which means...

Moving to new apartment... not sure if it has enough power

I'm moving to a new apartment next week, and while I've spent many hours planning on where to put the HT, I was checking out the circuit breaker today and discovered it only has 47 Amps for the whole place. It's only a studio apartment, so I was expecting less than 100 Amps, but this is crazy. I...

Yamaha YSP1 - 'sound projector', more info

it relies on room reflections to do the work... sounds a lot like bose's philosophy. I really hope mentioning the B word doesn't ignite another war, but it's the first thing that came to mind reading the information. I wonder how it works in a non rectangular room, and also if you use any sound...

    PARADIGM Reference Setup Queries

Nauman, Klipsch would be another brand that people on this board recommend that I think would fit in with your tastes. They have a very accurate tweeter which helps w/dialog and the treble sections of rock and techno. I'm sure people will also say to check out B&W for similar reasons...

Where did the $400-500 subwoofer thread go?

What exactly happened in the end... who looked like a fool? I missed the last page or two of the discussion, so i'm in the dark.

5.1 Speaker setup for around 2K (Dali Suite?)

Erik, Check out the studio 40's also. With a high end speaker stand, they're virtually the same price as the 60's, and the sound is different between the two. Both are superb... some prefer the 40's other the 60's, so that's why I say different and not superior.

My setup and location of rear speakers.

Does that impact the sonic quality from the speakers? BTW... sorry nick for hijacking your thread, i'm in the same boat as you RE: a couch on the back wall, so that's why i'm so interested.

Have you heard what Monster Cable is doing?

I hope this is legal to post... it's the filing that monster made in court, which I believe to be public knowledge. If this violates any copyright or other laws, please delete it. That being said, here is the exact wording of the filing in court by monster: United States District Court...

Have you heard what Monster Cable is doing?

I had my buddy who is in law school do some quick research on the case (he didn't care about it but was up to the challenge when I said how blatantly f-ed up the the cases seemed) The first case he was able to locate was the one against discovery for monster garage and monster house. The basic...

    Brand new to home theater

Mark, I'll second Mike's assessment that the CC and surrounds should be your first step. As far as a budget goes, only you can make that judgement. It should be possible to set up all 3 speakers for less than $300. I can feel your pain, about 6 years ago, I was in your shoes trying to piece...

    PARADIGM Reference Setup Queries

Nauman, I'm a paradigm studio user, so my judgement is a little biased. That being said, you really can't do wrong with their products, however depending on your taste other options might give you better results. I know you said that there aren't many choices in brands to audition, so perhaps...

Paradigm makes the best subs ?

define better.... a bigger driver will generally get deeper, but will not be as tight or accurate. Again, this is generalizations of equally priced units.

best bang for buck for bookshelf speakers

Phillip, I'd also suggest referencing the two threads that I generated last month regarding the system I put together for my aunt and uncle as their christmas/channukah gift. I encountered many of the same problems that you are talking about here both in deciding what to purchase for them...

Best home theater in a box for around 1000 online?

How loud do you listen to your movies or music? I feel a little like a broken record preaching about the Atoms again, but I'm so impressed with the sound at their price point, that I'll recommend them once more. 3 sets of them with the cc170 in the center, and a PDR-8 as a sub would bring the...

    bookshelves or floorstands

My personal experience is that floorstanders give a better bass response (sounds deeper) but that comes at the expense of some clarity relative to bookshelves. Also the bookshelves are tighter in the bass where the floorstanders sound a little boomy. Overall I prefer the sound of bookshelves to...

Paradigm makes the best subs ?

Tony, I'll second the notion on the PDR series... although my experience is with the 8, not the 10. As someone who works in sales, I can attest to the fact that you can never trust someone who is earning a commission to tell you the whole truth all the time. I'm not saying that all people in...

Any suggestions to level my PC Ultra???

lol Joe... maybe you can profit off of making scale models of the scene! seriously though... how much is it off of vertical? You could take a board of MDF and shim it to vertical or sand it down for the same purpose.

best bang for buck for bookshelf speakers

Paradigm doesn't authorize any online dealers, so you wouldn't get a warranty if bought online. They have a dealer locator on their site: http://www.paradigm.com/Website/Deal...t/Dealers.html

Have you heard what Monster Cable is doing?

best bang for buck for bookshelf speakers

If you're looking to use it exclusively for music, I'd recommend sticking with the 2 speakers and getting an HT receiver to allow for a future upgrade. The quality of the speakers you can get is far greater this way. Is your source music CD's only, or will you be looking into DVD-Audio? If only...

best bookshelf speakers for music/ht for around 400-500 bucks!

Ted, keep in mind that your ears are different from everyone else's in here, so the audition is by far the most important way to decide on which brand to pick up. I haven't heard any products in your price range recently so have no particular opinions on which products are the best...

best bang for buck for bookshelf speakers

Phillip, I set up my Aunt and Uncle with a set of Atoms for their ~12x30 living room as part of a 5.1 setup (4 atoms, CC-170, PDR-8)... the Atoms retail around $200 i believe for the pair and in my opinion are the best bang for the buck you can get in that price range. They are also wall...

I'm not sure what your plans are for the old subs, but you could also buy the TV-12 woofer to upgrade the CS+'s to make them into ultras.
