Oh, so this is a function of the tuner? I was looking at the Samsung SIR-T451 tuner from refurbdepo. Anyone know off hand if this one will do upconversion to 1080i?
I'm interested in picking up an ATSC tuner and antenna for OTA HDTV programming this coming fall (particularly my favorite show - Lost). However, it seems that ABC only broadcasts in 720p. Unfortunately my HDTV is older and only supports 480p or 1080i, will I be able to view the ABC programming...
Well I aim to use the DVI input, so the poorer performance with component isn't an issue for me. However, the whole 5% failure to read rate does worry me. I had pretty much settled on this player with the reply that Stephen had posted, but now I'm not sure. Any release date info on the D2...
I'm pretty much sold on the Bravo D1 based on the reviews of it's stunning picture quality, but all of them seem to use projectors or DLPs, and I know my picture is still displayed in analog. Will I see the gain? My bottom line question is: would the DVI of the D1 give me significant PQ gain...
Thank you both. Question: would a high quality component out player like the Denon 1600 give me the same quality picture as a DVI output player like the Samsung or Bravo?
Up until now I've been using my 3-4 year old Toshiba SD2200 2-disc DVD player which didn't even play anything burned at all - even CDs! Just this past weekend I "invested" in a nice 47" RPTV and I want to provide it the best signal I can. This set has a DVI-HDMI/HDCP input. My old player did...
Hello all, I've seen quite a bit of good press on this TV, and having just received a 10% off any single item coupon from Best Buy (Nov 7-11) I decided maybe it's time to pull the trigger. The website lists the TV as currently at $1423, so with the 10% off it should be just more than $1280. Now...
I also recommend checking out the Vels, but you may also want to look into the HSU research subs. They have gotten great reviews from well-known critics such as Tom Nousaine (sp?). Their VTF-2 is priced right around your budget at $450. I have never heard them myself, but they are known for...
I agree with Robin, this is pretty much exactly what I did as well. I just used little finishing nails about 1.5" long and drove about 3 dozen of them into the plug from the outside, then painted over it. Combined with the little bit of glue between the plug and the tube inner lining, this...
One other thing you might want to try: check ubid.com for some great deals on speaker stands. They pop up once in a blue moon, but I got my Sanus stands from them for $15 dollars shipped, new in the box! They aren't the best stands, but they look nice and they have spikes and foam for damping...
The most damaging thing you can do to a speaker is to amplify it with a clipped signal. When a solid state amplifier in effect "tries to hard" and is pushed to it's very limits, it will no longer produce a smooth sine-wave type signal. Instead, the tops of the wave will be chopped flat, or...
I've been keeping my eye out on audiogon and ebay for quite a while, but no exceptional deals have popped up. Thanks for your reply, just keep me in mind. Good luck with your new purchase!
I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, but how much was the dealer willing to give you for the LCR on a trade in? I've been looking for one for a long time at a good price, and maybe I could give you more than he would? Let me know if you're interested. Sorry I can't answer your question though...
I had one in my college apartment living room, which was probably about 35' by 14' with a vaulted ceiling of about 12'. You get the idea, big room. It sounded just fine in this room in it's 260 L ported enclosure and powered by a Mackie 1400i. When I graduated and moved into my current apt, with...
I'm looking for a quality comparison of these two units. Some of the main points I'd like to address are: the 54mHz video DAC of the Panny over the 27mHz of the Toshiba, the interface for playback of MP3/WMA files, and the audio quality of both. I was under the impression that the Toshibas were...
I have a setup similar to Angelo: one tempest, sealed enclosure of around 3 cubes, goosed with a good 800 watts from an orion amp. The key I think with stuffed sealed boxes in cars is stuffing them. I believe the general rule of thumb for polyfil is no more than 1 pound per cube, but it lowers...
I have the mackie M1400 and I don't think the fan noise is too bad. It's about as loud as the old VCRs, maybe a touch louder. It also depends on the size of your room. I hardly noticed it at all in my old 17x35 ft room with vaulted ceiling, but in my new smaller room it's definitely easier to...
I agree with Bob on this one. For a terrific bang for your buck (and simply great sound), I would recommend looking into a set of B&Ws. You could go with a LCR6 center channel ($500 retail), and a pair of 602s3 for the fronts (retail $600/pair). You can of course obtain the set for less than...
Sure, you can use it in the car application without a problem. The only thing to consider is the enclosure size, like you mentioned. You may want to get a copy of the Thiele/Small parameters for your subwoofer and a copy of WinISD software (free on the internet) and plot the enclosure size...
Well, if for some reason you "can't" listen to both. I would recommend taking a closer look at the Onkyo. I can attest to their build quality, having transported one back and forth from college for four years without ever having a problem. I also really enjoy the intuitive feel of their...
Instead of the polyfil, I recommend using the poly blanket stuff. I basically "coated" the walls of my sonotube sub with the poly blankets, and never got any of the hollow sound. Polyfil will probably work, but may be more difficult to apply right (unless you use a whole lot of it).
Well, the 603s are 1100 for a pair retail, I believe. Now most decent B&M shops will cut that by at least 10%, so I'd say somewhere just shy of 1k for the pair. The 604s are about 300 more. I understand that the DIY jobs can be had for much less, but also think there are other "untangibles"...
First a little background: I currently have B&W 602s2 for my mains, an old infinity CC1 for my center channel, infinity RS3 rears, a DIY sonotube tempest sub, and an Integra (Onkyo) DTR-7 receiver powering it all.
I've never been happy with the infinity center, and have decided it's time for...
I also own an older Integra model, the DTR-7. This one was the analog to the Onkyo 777. I understand what you mean about the clicks, but for me these only take place when I'm changing between stereo, direct, or DD, etc. I use a Toshiba 2200 DVD player for movies, and during layer transitions...
