Patrick, congrats on you HT Forum award.
I just picked up another amp for my sub system,
a QSC USA 900, it has a fan but the next smaller
one down does not, the USA 400 200x2@4ohms or 400 bridged
I am sure it can be had cheap if you look around.
The QSC USA 900's fan is much quieter than...
Patrick ,the m-1400 has a fan, its kind of loud
about the same as your computer power supply fan.
I have mine sitting very low to the ground and
after awhile it really is no big deal, youll
never hear it at louder volumes, I can't hear mine
at anything over 80dB.You'll get used to it after...
Try , http://www.fullcompass.com ,
you have to call for a quote, awhile back I was
quoted $443 for the Crown CE1000
$637 for the Crown CE2000
Mackies tend to have less of a price break from
what I have seen, this is because they are
in demand and very popular, I paid $500...
Vince I feel like I just got scolded for not using
an EQ, but thanks I will have to learn much more
about acoustics then perhaps try an EQ, I will
also match my system up as you recommend,
Don't dog me now, I set up my system by ear and
play with the knobs until it sounds good, its kind
of...
Well to be honest, I usually don't trust an amplifier's input pad, and don't use it unless I absolutely have to! So, I would personally use the Mackie with the input knobs turned WIDE OPEN, and let your preamp have control.

There is way too much bass if I do this, I usually
keep the...
I would personally be less interested in a voltage metering than just a basic nominal output test:
1) Hook you your receiver subwoofer pre-amp output to your mackie amp.
2) Disconnect your sub speakers from the amp [just to be safe].
3) Set the volume to 50% (high noon if it is an analog...
Thanks for the informative post Vince, just to let
you know my Sony 555ES analog outputs are rated
at 2v into 1K ohms, while the Mackie's input
is 1.23V into 4ohms, a difference of about 3 tenths
of an amp, or the Sony does have a higher voltage
but has more resistance. This all means that...
