All the PAL versions of Anchor Bay titles I have seen so far are converted from NTSC and not real PAL transfers. Even the ones release by Universal! I have both the R1 and R2 UK editions of the book of the dead edition of Evil Dead and the R1 beats the R2 in picture quality.
I was traveling around Australia last month and of course I had to checkout more or less every DVD store I walked/drove by. I noticed that the Back To The Future Trilogy is now available in a different packing than the one I have. I got my R4 copy from EZYDvd.com when the trilogy was released...
Actually all DVDs in Europe are PAL since there aren't any SECAM DVDs available and there is no NTSC country in Europe. South Africa is also R2 while the rest of Africa is R5. Most Columbia R1 titles (and maybe other studios as well) are both R1 and R4 for the south American market. This...
I was already suspecting while browsing through the stores here that the LD selection has pretty much dried up. I have been to the Blue Max at Suntec City which is just a short walk from where I work. It's actually the only store I have seen any LDs at. It seems that I'll have to check...
Between all the VCDs and DVDs there seem to be very view LDs available here in Singapore. All the LDs I could find were some leftovers between 10-20 S$ (mostly animes and music titles). Is there still a place were a wider selection of LDs is available.
I would definitely recommend the German version of King Kong:

I have two other releases from the same French label that has released King Kong (The Leopard Man and Cat People) and they have serious compression issues while the German...
I have the french R2 version of part 1 which is 2:35:1 and anamorphic. It also has the english language track:

But there are forced french subtitles when the english language track is selected. Something to consider if you don't have a player which...

Don't buy the UK version because it is cut! I personally have the german version which is completely uncut as are the french and australien...
I have not seen this movie yet but it got very bad reviews in Europe. It got described with "Flag waving", "patriotic crap" and even "American propaganda"...things European have become very antipathetic to (me thinks)... what do you as Americans say?
Below is a review from an UK site:

I'd pass on the Ruger and get the SIG because I don't see the point in .22LR... but how am I to talk I have a S&W 629 44 Magnum revolver. Btw. has anybody any thoughts on the WALTER P-99?
Wasn't the R2 release pushed back to December so they could include all the extras that are on the R1 and the DTS track?

Thinking about it that wouldn't be smart either...all the extras, higher PAL encoding and DTS on each DVD?!?
Guess...
Does the R4 version have a audio commentary or not?
On Ezydvd.com.au the list under Special Features:
ALL NEW FEATURE COMMENTARY with Michael J.Fox, Director/Writer Robert Zemekis & Producer/Writer Bob Gale.
The German version is anamorphic but I have never seen it so I can't tell how good it really is? A friend has the UK version and it looks dreadful but it's cheap!
My copy arrived last week. These seem to be the old LDs copied to DVD. I have the Cat/Raven NTSC LD and the PQ looks similar. I haven't made an A/B comparison yet though.
I don't have the Mummy on LD only the R1 Universal DVD which looks a lot better than this R4 release...
