HK DVD 22 vs Zenith DVB318

I'm going to keep the Zenith, because it offers some better features, including DVI and a front panel that doesn't light up the room. My TV is NOT doing upconversion with the Panny. The TV shows the resolution (if you "ask" it). The Panny was transmitting 480p and the TV was displaying 480p...

HK DVD 22 vs Zenith DVB318

Here's the follow-up: I ordered the Zenith from Amazon on Wednesday, Sept 22. The unit didn't ship until Monday, Sept 27. It shipped from NV and arrived at my house on Wed, Sept 29. And ... [Drum Roll] Build date of December 2003. It passes 1080i via component. However, it looks about...

Zenith DVB 318 & LG 7832 DVD Player merged thread

Jim MCC, I ordered one from Amazon yesterday. I'll let you know what build date shows up. Come on March! This wouldn't be a guarantee, but it may indicate a higher probability for you if I do indeed get a pre-July built unit.

HK DVD 22 vs Zenith DVB318

I'm looking for a good progressive scan, sub $250 DVD player. I don't need anything but DVD (no DVD-A, SACD, etc.). I have a new Mitsu 65" CRT RPTV (WS-65315) and want a better video feed than the Pana S27 that I picked up. The reviews I've read here and at AVSF seem to indicate that the...

    Pioneer 45TX questions

I just set up my 45TX last weekend. I'll take a stab at your questions:No. However, assigning inputs is one of the easiest things to do.No. No reason you have disable them. Yes. It's easy to disable the digital inputs not in use.Yes. I don't know why you'd want to do that, but no reason you...

Paradigm & Pioneer............how do they match

Paradigm Phantoms, Atoms, CC-270, PDR-12 with a Pioneer Elite VSX-26TX and sounded amazing. 26 crapped out and am waiting for my 45TX upgrade to arrive.

    Which receiver... Kenwood VR-6060 <OR> Pioneer VSX-26TX

Pioneer Elite 20 series (including the VSX-26TX) and a couple of the 30 series (I believe the 33 and 35) all had an engineering design flaw -- bad solder joint on the DSP board. I've personally been dealing with this for the past 1.5 years. Pioneer has been great to work with, but I'd avoid...

folks with paradigm speakers: what's your HT setup?

PhantomsCC-270AtomsFor sub, I went with the Paradigm PDR-12. Sounds amazing and was quite inexpensive. I had been driving the speakers with a Pioneer Elite VSX-26TX. When the receiver was working, it sounded great. I'm in the process of upgrading this to an Elite VSX-45TX. I initially...

    My Sony STR-DA4ES is RUINED!

Nope, I mean cc = credit card. Credit cards have a ton of consumer benefits and protections that 99% of the people never know about. One of them that I remember is 2x warranty. They also have a warranty filing service -- just send in copies of your receipts and they do all of the clerical/filing...

    My Sony STR-DA4ES is RUINED!

How did you pay for the receiver? If you used cc, read through the member terms. I read through the member terms about 6 months ago and was floored at the type of coverage they give you. You can be completely negligent and get a replacement via credit card within a certain window. If someone...

budget minded receiver and speaker purchase

$1,500 for receiver and speakers should be doable. I'd recommend compromising on the receiver before the speakers, if it comes to that. My speakers are Paradigm Phantoms (main), Atoms (surr), CC-270, and PDR-12 sub. I got the bunch for just around $1,150. You can do a search in the speakers...

    cable to reciever

Yes. That's what I do to get my OTA network TV audio into my receiver/system. Coaxial cable (or, in my case, antenna) into the coax jack; sound output into the TV IN jacks on the receiver; voila! Alternatively, if you're using a cable box, they often have A/V outputs built in. Good luck.

folks with pradigm monitor speakers. what receiver do you use?

Chun, What happened to my 26 is the same thing that happened to many, many owners of the 20 series elite (and I believe the 33 and 35): bad solder joint on the DSP board. Read this, if you really want to know more: My 26TX Saga The flip side is that Pioneer has had amazing customer...

folks with pradigm monitor speakers. what receiver do you use?

I'm going to do a partial threadcrap here: I use the Monitor line's little brother, the Performance line: Phantom mains, Atom surrounds, CC-270 center. I am driving it with a Pioneer Elite VSX-26TX, soon to be a VSX-45TX. When the 26 is functioning, it has no problems driving the speakers...

Another question! How difficult is it to set up a reciever?

Yes, read that primer. It's good stuff. Also, read the manual that comes with your receiver. The manuals aren't perfect but they do help quite a bit. Bottom line is that a receiver is not plug and play like a VCR or DVD player is. You'll have to make quite a few connections for your...

Other receivers as good as Denon 2803 for same or less $$??

Wow, the Pioneer VSX-912K looks amazing on paper. I can't believe the feature set on this receiver for under $300. If I was in the market, I'd be looking at this first. Here's a pic of the back panel. Alex, you should be able to see the difference between the RCA/composit jacks, the S-Video...

I just want to watch movies - Do I need a Denon 2803?

Alex, I'm not going into the detail on why one is better than the other, as it will be confusing right now (I encourage you to look it up, though). There are 4 common types of video connections:Coaxial cable. This actually carries video and audio in many applications. It's the worst method...

I just want to watch movies - Do I need a Denon 2803?

I think you need to decide which features are important to you first. It is possible that a $250 receiver will work quite nicely and you'll have $450 left in your pocket.Do you need component video switching?Do you need 6.1 or 7.1? I.e., is a 5-channel (5.1) receiver enough?Do you need S-Video...

Upgrade Pioneer Elite 26TX to 43 or 45? $120 diff.

OK, it looks like the 43TX does have component in/out in the manual. It's about 3lbs lighter than the 45TX. How come? Also, from another thread:

Upgrade Pioneer Elite 26TX to 43 or 45? $120 diff.

I have a chance to upgrade my 26TX for a very reasonable amount of money. My options are for a 43 or 45. The 45 will cost me $120 more than the 43. I'm doing my research and reading up on this forum. Yes, I did do the searches. I've also downloaded and printed the spec sheets from Pioneer...

Thanks for help here. I have Paradigm Performance speakers.

I'm afraid I'm not a very good judge on music. My ear isn't very discriminating and I don't listen to very much music on my system. I have listened to some radio (country and Top 40 stuff) and a few CDs, that include Paul Simon, Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, Dixie Chicks, and Amy Grant. All...

What Paradigms for a 11.5x14 size room

This is almost exactly what I did after Christmas. I had a good receiver and really poor speakers. I went with Paradigm Phantom mains (I wanted a floor-standing model), Atoms for surrounds (Titans are much better for ~$25 more, but were too big for my surrounds), CC-270 (large, but good center)...

Have you ever bought a speaker you didn't listen to?

To answer the question in the thread's title: yes, I have and don't regret it one bit. However, I went up the chain, not down. I listened to the Paradigm Titan and ordered its bigger brother, the Phantom. I loved the Titan and reasoned that the worst case scenario is that the Phantom didn't...

Thanks for help here. I have Paradigm Performance speakers.

I believe my room is about the same size. However the "back" is open to the dining room and the side is open to the entry way and I have vaulted ceilings. It's a pretty open family room. For the sub, I keep the dial set at about 90% volume. But, I have my receiver set for -8 db offset for...
