Cat's rather dated website is at:
http://www.calaudiotech.com/
And their "featured theaters" link shows their "old", 6-figure speaker systems. Which, by the way, include something in the order of 26 in-wall subwoofers! Idea being so many subwoofers will ensure no nulls...but I'm more fond...
After showing or buying & installing (your call) the most decorator friendly stands you can find, if they still get a veto, show her how much MORE money it would cost to buy furniture-grade finished towers....which could translate into her upgrading to a matching coffee table or end table or...
As someone flirting with the idea of getting the Omnisats for surrounds ever since they where announced, this is good reading for me. Have you by chance seen the new Gallo that is bigger than their Micro? I noticed an ad for something alittle bigger, but still apparently a single driver, ball...
Anyone know if Costco resells returned items without notice? A Toshiba combo TV/VCR I just brought home already had someone else's home video tap in it. That also explains why the batteries were also already in the remote.
Someone told me Rotel's 6x60 amp stickers at $599, so I'm thinking that price range for the 1050's 65 watts, maybe rated at 70 or 80 watts for sales brochure appeal.....
Hey Geoff MK, I would suggest he go around to some of the local custom installers, and ask them what they might install. Then post the results here for comments. Like I said on another board, $60k of gear professionally installed will probably sound better than $80k of nice retail gear DIY'd.

But I'm thinking the NHT 6.3s have an MTM configuration. Have a link for a 3 tweeter NHT inwall?
BTW, Has anyone had success with bipolar in-ceiling installations? I know DefTech, Triad, and B&W offer bi-polar in-walls, but I'm curious about in-ceiling performance.
Hey Cary P,
I think the omnisat's will be $350/ea US. I too was REAL excited about them, but the wife is already hooked on in-ceilings. :frowning:
I haven't really shown her pictures yet, as this purchase will be later, so there is no sense in stirring things up this far out... :)
I wish they would hurry up and finalize the Soundstage upgrade & trade in policy! Any Soundstage owners considering the upgrade instead of the trade in? I've already got a Pronto, and OCCASIONALLY consider the upgrade....
Looks to be a weird, kinda 360 degree "omni" pole that can be bookshelf/wall/ceiling mounted.....
Might make for an interesting surround speaker.......

I agree with Michael Streeter, that pan & scan will be prevalent until widescreen TVs are prevalent. Just today, somebody @ work was complaining at how small a widescreen movie was on a 32" 4:3 TV.
It must be either cost of manufacturing, or the opportunity to resell content, as I'm thinking...
Good to hear, as I've got a pair of T830s from '89 or '90 that I would like to use to build out a bedroom system....though the wife may not approve of the basic-black finish. :frowning:
I was in a local dealer, and one of the sales guys said the biggest single residental job they did was 2 home theaters for 1 house: $890k. It probably used CAT speakers. We didn't go into details, but their website has a 2000 press release quoting $200k as their high end speaker system...
I would pick classe to take the edge off of an etched system, or bryston for a more neutral system. I consider Krell overpriced/overly bright, and I have never liked bob carver/sunfire gear.
Thanks TV and Matt....I'm on a 2 or 3 year plan to get into a Dual CS-Ultra Package, so I'm going piece-meal. :) Though the last part (the 2nd ultra) will entail moving or building a dedicated room.
I have a CS-Ultra, and am getting around to upgrading its power and am considering the S-1000. I downloaded the manual last night and noticed it doesn't look like it has RCA inputs. Is this true??????????
I don't know about you other guys, but speakers are the longest lasting items in my gear. Provided you spend enough to get something you will be happy with for a long time.......
Alphas are my favorite entry level bookshelf. I just recently moved mine to a buddy's HT because I got married and was running out of room. I wanted to keep them SO bad...but I couldn't pull it off. :frowning:
How bout some people chime in with what they consider easy to operate receivers?
About every 6 to 9 months I must struggle with my father's misconfigured Home Theater, as he swears up and down he didn't change anything! He has an Outlaw 1050, whose digitial input selection and 6.1 selection...
I too am anxiously awaiting upgrade info. They also said more info would be on the website to help existing customers consider upgrade/trade-in options.
Hey Marshall,
Since you are going in-ceiling in the rears, care to share anything you've learned while auditioning? One of the things I'm struggling with in understanding is how in-ceiling speakers can give a consistent sound if they have an open-back, non-enclosed speakering using the entire...
So what speakers are you guys using? I currently have the originial Outlaw, but am flirting with the idea of getting a nice 2 channel for my mains......
Some people find Aragon amps on the bright side.....so I would like to hear any bright/brittle comments.

I'm am window shopping for 3 inCEILING surrounds for my rears.........so I found this interesting reading.
I'm getting a 6.1/7.1 preamp upgrade this summer, and want to see what it takes to go 6.1 w/ the spouse-acceptance-factor. Tiny little Energy Take 5s in the back just aint cutting it, but...
While at AC, I was shown their new center: VCC- 5. Sounds quite a bit better than their normal center, which my Dad has with a pair of 2CEs. Though it should, at $2K if I recall correctly.
Same demo, John. And yea, I think quite a bit of time has been spent setting up that room, cause it sounds GOOD. I hadn't heard that Beatle's disc, and was really enjoying the 2 channel even before we got to the 5 channel. Wow! Though I bet you can count the number of reference-level 5...
