I've been a longtime Onkyo champion. I just bought my first house, which will have a dedicated home theater space, and this Onkyo would make a fine centerpiece for the room!
As always, it's good to read your comments Mr. Harris. I'll be picking up five of the six releases tomorrow (I'm normally a completist, but can't bring myself to buy "Die Another Day"). I grew up watching most of the Bond movies on TV. ("The Spy Who Loved Me" was the first one I saw in a...
If it helps your decision any, I completely disagree with Jim's assessment. There's a lot of material presented at a pretty fast pace, but the editing is in no way distracting or "MTV style."
For me, it's Gus Grissom. Grissom took a lot of heat after the loss of the Liberty Bell 7, but he stood his ground and was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing. His fortitude led to improvements in the spacecraft that followed.
It looks pretty good on HD DVD, and the picture improved as the first season went along. It should look the same on Blu. So, message to Universal: I have a large quantity of money that is yours for the asking. Please make this happen.
There's a flaw in your logic. If what you have posted is accurate, it would point to a problem with a specific projector bulb used by Toshiba, not with DLP in general. I have a rear-projection set (not DLP), and the bulb is rated for 8,000 hours, which equates to about four years.
Some speakers may color sound less than others, but they are coloring nonetheless, so Leo is correct. Brammer, do yourself a favor and go to a good dealer and listen to a variety of speakers. You'll be amazed at the difference from one speaker to the next, even among very good speakers. You...
I don't mean this in a rude way, but is there a reason you can't take care of this yourself without your parents' help? Your profile says you're 19. Opening the DVD was a mistake, and you knew better. But you might get lucky and find someone at the customer service counter who is sympathetic...
No offense, but how many threads are you going to start about picture settings for your SXRD? So far I'm aware of four that ask largely the same questions, and I'm getting confused as to where I should post follow-ups. Edited to add: I see the other threads have been locked. I replied to your...
The Version You've Never Seen is, by definition, not the original film. It was an interesting bit of self-indulgence by the writer, but the original cut is the only one I'd buy.
I have the Panasonic DMP-BD30 and it does remember the last position played. But I believe the function must be allowed by the disc itself, and obviously not all discs have the function enabled.
I downloaded the owner's manual for your TV and Robert is right. The USB port is for viewing pictures via thumb drives and digital cameras, not for viewing video.
S-Video (Separate Video) carries the video signal in two parts: Luminance (brightness) and chrominance (color). There's a failure somewhere in the chrominance portion of the signal, which is why you're only getting a black and white picture.
It would also help to know what sources you're wanting to connect to the receiver, because that will dictate how many and what types of inputs you need on the receiver. And some receivers will convert non-HDMI video signals to HDMI to make connections to the TV easier. You'll also probably want...
I agree that the PS3 is a good choice for some people, but it's not the only choice. I went with the Panasonic DMP-BD30 for a number of reasons. I didn't have to buy an extra dongle in order to use my universal remote, and my receiver decodes all the new HD audio formats. Java 2.0 (and BD Live)...
If you don't want to wait for Sony to mail you a disc, you can download the latest firmware from the support Web site and burn it to a CD, if you're comfortable doing that.
No, you can just download firmware updates from the manufacturer's Web site and burn it to disc. There should be instructions in your owners manual on how to do this.
I've got to agree with Keith. I've owned both Sony and Onkyo and wuld hands-down recommend anything Onkyo makes over Sony's non-ES receivers. Sony's receivers (again, except for ES) have never had a good reputation. To Keith's excellent list, I would add Harmon Kardon.
