I finally decided to take the plunge and learn Linux. Not only as an alternative to Microsoft but as a way of advancing my skills. But upon attempting installation, I've run into a snag. I downloaded Red Hat 7.3. When I say I downloaded it, I mean I found an ftp site and downloaded the entire...
Thanks for the reply Rob. Here's what I want to do. Since I have my own domain registered, I set-up 2 e-mail accounts and have been using Outlook as my client, as well as web access from anywhere. I want to do that again. But I'd also like to set-up either an Exchange server or Linux mail...
A few months ago, a friend of mine helped me register a domain and hosted it for me. Now he's getting out and I need to not only find a place to host, but also need to learn what to do. I saw the other thread regarding hosting and I've contacted a few companies to get the ball rolling. But...
Adam,
That's a very interesting ancedote that I wasn't aware of. Can you point me to any reference materials so I can read up on that? And if that's the case, it doesn't seem to bother Williams, or so it seems.
I downloaded AOTC and went back specifically to the Geonosis Battle, since it...
[Getting back to some real discussion........]
I was wondering how many here subscribe to the Star Wars Insider. I ask because we've had the Soundtrack butchering debate off and on for quite some time. In the current issue (#061, Yoda cover), John Williams and George Lucas for that matter, say...
A friend of mine, a huge Halloween freak, started a petition asking for the re-release of the original Halloween to theaters. For those who would like to lend their support (no how futile it may seem), please sign: Halloween Re-release Petition.
The question I have is my friend names Anchor...
Well guys, still unemployed and frankly I'm getting sick and tired of doing nothing. There has been some optimism with a recent report: ITAA Report
What pisses me off is the lack of interest. Most jobs I apply for don't have phone #'s to follow up with. It's so easy for these recruiters to...
Thanks guys, keep 'em coming. At this pace, I'll be reading for another 60 years straight. I'm very impressed with the amount of replies and even more intrigued by the diversity of literature. Love it. Just love it!!!!!
As I mentioned above, I downloaded the entire 5.81GB Red Hat 7.3 directory of a friendly FTP site. I know about the ISO images and thus that's why I had ISO #1 in the CD-ROM along with the boot floppy I created. So, I downloaded the entire directory but only burned the 3 ISO images onto CD. Does...
I'm finally fed up with Microsoft and decided to learn a whole new world. I've made the decision to immerse myself into Linux and absorb everything I can. Besides scouring the Red Hat website, I've sought out other extremely informative Linux sites to memorize and digest as much as possible. I...
Actually Brian, the features I don't like are minor in stature but I do use them all the time, and thus makes it a tad more time consuming but more frustrating than anything.
1) Full screen. In 5.5, you can just hit F11 to toggle between modes. In 6, you have to go to the View menu to switch...
Admitedly, I'm not as well read as I should be. There are many awesome books that I have not read. So I've been on this kick to catch up and read all of them so I can be clued in on why these books are so highly acclaimed. I went to the library today and checked out The Grapes Of Wrath by...
No I haven't installed IE 6. There are a few subtle differences between it and 5.5 which I don't like. That's why I want to repair this version which has always worked flawlessly in the past.
Somebody has to know how to repair IE in Win2K. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
There are a bunch of HD sports broadcasts these days. As was mentioned the NCAA ha done it. The PGA has done it. MLB (here in Chicago, the Cubs were broadcast in HD) has done it. The NFL (Super Bowl) has done it. Hell, even the NHL (I know of at least the NY Rangers) has done it. Oh yeah, the...
I've been getting quite a few errors with IE 5.5 lately. I'm running [/b]Win2K Pro[/b]. I know in Win98 you can go to Add/Remove Programs, select IE, click Remove, and you get a dialog box with 3 choices and one is to repair. Not so In Win2K. IE is not listed in the Add/Remove box. I tried...
Thanks for the heads up. I wholeheartedly invite anyone who hasn't seen this bit of American cinematic history to do so. I couldn't wait for any station to broadcast these awesome films or deal with the chewed up VHS copies I had so I splurged on the LD Box Set. Best $100 I've ever spent.
Damn that's a sweet price. I do hope someone takes advantage of this. IMHO, this is THE mothership of all pre/pro's. If I wasn't unemployed and dead broke, I'd scratch and claw to land this baby.
Good luck on your sale. And good luck with the Theta.
Although not quite on topic, I do need a replacement cover for the Blues Brothers Collector's Edition, as well as covers for DTS Demo Discs 3 & 4.
If anyone could help out, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Frank, I think I answered that above in trying to gain employment at a home theater shop (i.e. alternative jobs). I'd have to sell my ass off to compensate for what I've been making the last 5 years though. But it doesn't make any sense if I take a low end job, not even in my career or skills...
Well, I don't feel so alone. But it sucks that we have such highly skilled labor in the best country in the world that cannot get work. Doesn't give much hope to others around the world if we can't get our act together. Anyone else?
Well, I fell victim to government budget cuts and lost my job a few weeks ago. I've been working consistently as a contractor in the IT industry for 5 years and have never had trouble getting any job. So after I was laid off unexpectedly, I started an eager search for a new job. And now 3 weeks...
David,
Please e-mail me the info on this technician as well. [email protected]
BTW, I'd buy the CLD-99 but I'm currently unemployed. I've wanted one of these for years. Bad timing.
Well Larry, I recently had the same problem from a brand new computer I built. Recently I wiped out my computer and re-installed the OS and all has been fixed so far. But I started a thread a while back that had many different suggestions: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=62034...
