You axed for it: Disc 1, the movie, has extremely poor looking video. Compression and banding artifacts are visible. The Region 1 DVD is superior, even though I wasn't too thrilled with the video quality of the R1 disc. Audio is 5.1 DD English and a 5.1 DD French dubtrack. Subtitles are in...
Thanks for the link, Jon. This was originally published several years ago. I got the pictures of these scenes confused with the presence of them. I'm still optimistic that the "deleted" scenes will probably show up in the future.
I was very surprised to read that the deleted scenes can't be found. I read a story on Steve Tannehil's website by a guy named "DVD Savant" about his encounter with an uncut version of Blue Velvet on 35mm. I don't remember everything he said (naturally, this was years ago), but I do recall his...
Larry Davis here. I didn't want to gloat, but yes, David Lynch has all but stated that he made the DVD darker than the 35mm prints in theaters. So I was right all along. The DVD may represent David Lynch's vision, but it's not what was shown at the Cannes film festival or to the worldwide...
I saw Mulholland Drive in two different theaters in Manhattan, NYC. The presentation of the second theater was really good. I saw Laura Harring's pubic bush quite clearly. I have a distinct memory of it. It doesn't matter if it was or wasn't her real pubic hair (see my 2nd paragraph). I have a...
Mark McLeod,
In light of your last post I would like to drop the issue. You're man enough to admit that you may have jumped the gun with your label and you edited your post. That's good enough for me. Ok, so maybe I will continue to read your reviews. ;)
Mark McLeod,
You stated that I posted "false information". Period. Full Stop. Obviously, you had no factual basis to apply that label to me and I just proved it. Maybe next time you will think twice before you pronounce someone's observations as "false".
Yes, I am also presenting my own...
I'm surprised the nude scene is so controversial. Yes, it is erotic but it is not porno or anything close to it. Lynch's skill as a filmmaker arouses us, not just some cheesecake shot. Also, you could say that everything we've seen in the film (so far) has lead us to that point. It's not a...
If I had to, I would pay the full MSRP to obtain the DVD. I bought a multiregion DVD player just to play my Japanese Lost Highway DVD. Lynch is a special case for me (and I know for some of you). If this was any other director, I would not be willing to pay the extra money to obtain a bare bones...
Mark,
I think it's great we don't have to wait years to own this on DVD. For once, we get a timely release of a David Lynch film on DVD. I hope the video and audio are as good as they deserve to be. Fingers crossed.
Hi patrick,
I have also been scanning sites for reviews. I haven't found any yet. But when they are posted, these two David Lynch oriented websites will probably alert us ASAP:
Link Removed Topcities pulled the website for some reason. It can now be found here: http://www.lynchnet.com/ They...
A couple of weeks ago I heard about an expert who contacted the FBI about a new computer virus that he identified. What did the FBI do? They bugged his phone of course.
I doubt the people the FBI busted in the candyman crackdown were just people who were inadvertantly put on a mailing...
Jay,
I meant that your shipping doesn't skyrocket if you buy more items. The rate of increase tapers off. I bought a CD, coffee mug and DVD and paid $11.50 shipping, UPS Ground.
There are a few scenes in FWWM that directly relate to the final TV episode (#29) and will just leave you confused if you haven't seen the series first. The next box set from Artisan should reveal the identity of the killer (I know what episode it is, but I won't say). After you've seen that...
The fine art prints are supposedly around $1,000 each (yes, one thousand dollars).
The shipping is expensive, but it goes down drastically the more you buy. I'm still mulling over my order.
I'm definitely buying this one. I just hope the deleted scenes have been treated properly. David Lynch outlined a series of steps that needed to be followed to get these scenes (on 35mm film) presentable.
I'm hopeful too, but I don't have my hopes up. I wouldn't be surprised if next February we are asking "where is the Lost Highway DVD?". Hopefully I'm wrong and we'll have it soon. Wouldn't that be nice after only 5 years of waiting? ;)
I read the article a few days ago. I don't believe it. This is the same info we were given last year. To date we have no street date and no info on what will be in the DVD. Why has the DVD not been released? If I remember correctly, Lynch and John Neff reworked the soundtrack at least a year...
The original idea was to give paying members a first shot at buying new stuff. I think the new CD (yes, CD) would be availble to members only for the first week, then to everyone else. Ditto for the DVD's. I don't know if they will or won't stick to that, but you don't have to be a member to buy...
