    Motorola Hdtv 5100 Problem?

I just got the 5100 and thought that I should set the 4:3 override to 480p so I did. Non-HD stations looked like crap. Then I set it to 480i and it's acceptable. It's at least as good as the old digital box was. Not sure why it has to be set to 480i though. Maybe a bug?

Cropping top and bottom: TV or STB?

I just bought an SIR-T151 and watched the Superbowl. The picture on my Panny CT-32HX40 was outstanding, but I noticed that the top and bottom were cropped as though the TV was overscanning the 16:9 image. The top part of the score box was clipped off. For instance, you couldn't tell if it was...

Need quick help for quickie install. No signal at all on STB.

Doooooh! I did a scan and it picked up most of the local Channels at about 60% strength! Awsome! And that's with the antenna just leaning up against my garage roof! I'm in! :-D

Need quick help for quickie install. No signal at all on STB.

I just picked up an open box SIR-T151 and hooked up an antenna that I found in my attic. I get absolutely no signal at all. I started out trying it inside with no luck and then placed the antenna on the roof just to try an get somehing. I had my wife watching the signal strength while I moved...

Found an antenna in my attic: Think it's OK for HDTV?

There are no markings on it, but looking around on the web it looks like a Channel Master 4225 UHF antenna. It's a wire grid about 20" wide and 36" high, and has four bow ties about 18" wide each. It think I've read that these are good for HDTV but I can't remember. Think so? I don't have an...

Why alkaline batteries ONLY for Game Boy Advanced?

OK... I just bought an Energizer 1 hour charger and batteries for my digital camera. The batteries are rated at 1850 mAh which is the highest I've seen. I bought some extra betteries for my daughters game boy and I'll give them a try. The camera manual also warns to make sure they are all...

Why alkaline batteries ONLY for Game Boy Advanced?

Hmm, I didn't notice that... I just checked the obvious, the Nintendo site, and this is what it said:

Why alkaline batteries ONLY for Game Boy Advanced?

May be a stupid question but I don't do the game thing so I have no idea... I'm getting tired of buying batteries for my daughters Game Boys and was gonna get some NiMH batteries and a charger. I look at the manual and it say to use alkaline ONLY for Game Boy Advanced, and NOT to use NiMH, or...

    Good Fellas

I was gonna start a thread asking this question but I noticed this thread so I'll recycle... I just got GoodFella's as a gift, and I was glad to see that it said "Enhanced for widescreen TV's" on the back. But low and behold, when I put the disk in and set my TV for squeeze mode, the picture...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

(The link wants me to register and I didn't feel like doing that right now) What you say makes a lot of sense. The Hitachi and the Mits with the built in tuners have 1394 and the TV's without tuners don't have 1394. That may actually be to interface to something else rather than to be the...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

I just read part of the agreement. Section 3.6 seems to imply that 1394 AND DVI are now required on all STB's (as of 12/31/02), and that DTV displays will require DVI or HDMI or Y,Pb,Pr, and that HDTV displays will require DVI or HDMI. I didn't see anything saying that 1394 will be required on...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

Man-Fai, I have Panny HD ready tube tv (CT-32HX40) with component and no DVI/Firewire. So my thinking is that it wouldn't make sense for me to upgrade to a RPTV without DVI/Firewire at this point, but I'm not completely sure. To break away from my "general" nature of this topic for a moment...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

Thanks for the link. As soon as I get an extra 4 hours or so to read through all 78 pages of the legal jargon I'll give it a look :) . Anyone have a summary? And again, I'm not as concerned with the quality of the picture right now as I am with the idea that the component interface may not...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

I'm personally not so much concerned with whether one looks better than the other as I am in whether component inputs will be made obsolete and unusable in a 2 - 3 year time horizon. I'm not buying another TV in 2 - 3 years. If I do go with something that has DVI or 1394, which one do I go...

    DVI, Firewire, Analog debate

We seem to be in a dead zone right now regarding HDTV interconnection. Information on these interfaces seems to be scattered all over the place somewhat unclear. In this thread, I'm hoping to compile under one roof, information (opinions and links) on DVI and Firewire, so I can make an...

    question about toshiba widescreen TV

This is highly debatable, but I paid 7 bucks each for my generic red green and blue colored 10' component cables and my picture looks outstanding. I wouldn't get silly on the brand name, especially if it's Monster.

need new tv new budget $750. JVC?

I just looked at the specs of that tv, and although I don't have any experience with it, it doesn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. My opinion is this... Buy a smaller digital TV in that price range. The Samsung TXM2797HF is in that price range. Not sure if it will squeeze, but...

Looking for an 32" HDTV ready television

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that's quite right. Why would they disable that feature on a 4:3 set and not allow you to view anamorphic DVD's in all of their glory? Isn't that the point of it all?

Looking for an 32" HDTV ready television

How about about the Panasonic? I have the 2000 model and it's nice, but the new ones are even better (3:2 pulldown and video input memory for a couple of examples). It does the squeeze either automatically or manually. I like the Panny

    Is my SD6200 worthless?

Well, I really just wanted to know if it was true that my 6200 has lost most of its value and it seems that it has. I agree with scott in that it's worth more to me than it is on the used market so I'll just keep it and buy something else when the bug hits. I do see the chroma bug, but from...

    Is my SD6200 worthless?

I've been out of the loop for a while regarding HT. I'm looking at the prices of progressive players and I'm shocked. I just got a flyer from Onecall with an ad for a Tosh 3750 for $179. I paid almost $800 less than a year ago for my SD6200. I knew it would drop quickly at the time that I bought...

Any advice for learning to play guitar?

Go to the "Chop Shop" at the Fender Discussion Forum that I mentioned a few posts ago. There you can do a search or ask as many music related questions as you want, and there are some real knowledgable people that will reply. There are many Pro instructors that will reply, and they are very...

Any advice for learning to play guitar?

I haven't been around here for a while, but I just checked in and noticed this thread. I am 40 and just started playing 6 months ago after saying "I wish I could play the guitar" for the last 25 years. I could go on and on with advice, but the best advice I can give you is to go to the Link...
