Hey Mike - Are you comparing burning the same amount of data to a DL disk as a single layer? Say like ony 4GB of data? If you dual layer burn is taking twice as long, but you're burning twice as much data, isn't it burning at the same speed as the single layer? Or am I missing something?
I agree with Yong, go for the wired speakers for front, center, and sub as a first choice. I went a step further when I moved from a house to an apartment recently, and had to find a wireless solution for my rears. I ended up with a Kenwood RFU-6100 which allows me to connect my surrounds...
Quite right! Even if I opt for a new receiver down the road, I'm definitely fixing the 3300. Actually the $60 service fee I already paid gets applied, so I'm only out another $120 to get it fixed. So in a year or so when I finally get the bug to upgrade, at least I have a great receiver to use...
Well I finally got called back from the repair shop, and it's $185 for a new DSP board for the 3300. I think that's the better road for now. They said I'll have it by Thanksgiving. I hope so. Sending the sound straight to the TV is killing me!
Granted, not a lot. I too have been using a mini-plug to RCA patch cable to run my Nano to the 3300. One useful thing is the ability to skip tracks, pause, etc using the remote and it also provides some type of OSD, but not sure if it shows track title, artist, etc like the iPod display does...
Hey - Thanks for the info Tom. I decided to bring my 3300 in yesterday and have the shop at least take a look at it. A diagnosis inspection cost $60, and the tech said the average repair bill is about $180. For this money, what's the opinion on fixing it. It will take about 1-2 weeks before...
I'm sure I'll be spending at least the amount I spent on the 3300....$1,000. I would like a few things my 3300 doesn't do, like conversion from s-video to component, OSD via component/HDMI, iPod input, and 7.1. Most other "new" features will go unused for now as most of it I can't use until I...
I have a Denon 3300 that's about 6 years old. Last week it went on the blink. The "lock" light for the digital inputs does not light up anymore, and thus I get no sound. I assume there's some sort of problem with digital signal processor. Anyone have any suggestions on troubleshooting or how to...
Scored the SE edition of TGTBTU at my local Circuit City after checking Target (only had the old edition) and two Best Buy locations (no SE in stock). Great buy for $6.60 after tax out the door. No questions asked by the CC cashier!
Obviously someone at Buy.com made a mistake. I ordered it right away yesterday after checking prices on bargainflix.com even though it had a 8/24/04 release date. Today the price is back to normal, but it says it will ship in 1-2 days. My order is stil processing (sent to warehouse). So we'll...
I found the 3-disk Mystic River my local BB, and asked one of the floor "helpers" for a price check before going up to the register. He checked it at one of the scanners out on the floor, and it showed $20.99. So happily I walked up to a register to purchase, and low and behold, it rang up at...

I recently purchased the Amoi 9200 Networked DVD player. Very similar to the Gateway and GoVideo units (in fact, I think Amoisonic builds the units for them). It's a standard DVD player, which also has a wireless network card to stream audio, video and pictures from your computer. Not a bad...
Joshua - While reading the book I've been having to search the internet to figure out some of the references (especially to see pictures of some of the paintings they talk about). You're correct that it deals with Malleus Maleficarum. When I did a search on this, I saw the DVD/VHS movie from...
Believe it or not, besides DVD's, people still read for entertainment. Just started reading the "Da Vinci Code" and saw a reference to the "Witches Hammer" which a film version from 1969 is being released on 3/16/2004. Haven't heard or seen anything about this. Anyone have any info?
Well if you're also in the market for a DVD player, you might want to check out a Networked DVD player. I just ordered one last week. A server app runs on the PC that basically organizes all your mp3, avi, jpeg etc files, and sends them to the DVD player via either a wired or wireless...
OK - so it looks like I'll either need to get a PCMCIA wireless card for the laptop and a wireless PCI or USB for the other desktop, or look into a wireless repeater that I can attach both to using the existing 10/100 NIC in them. The two separate cards look to be cheaper, with some deals...
Here my setup. I have a Linksys 802.11b Access Point/Router in the basement connected (wired) to my cable modem, server, and laser printer. I use the WLAN to connect with my laptop. Everthing works fine. I also have a another computer upstairs that I need to connect to this network, plus my...
Alan - I've had the same type of problems with my older JVC DVD Player (701BK) trying to watch Scary Movie, and the Alias S1 disks. Luckily I have a newer Sony Megachanger that played these disks with no problems. I've heard of others with the same types of problems with some Disney flicks and...
Yeah - I tried the reset proceedure too, and it doesn't help.
Mark - Who distributes/made the Little House DVD's? Alias and Scary Movie is by Buena Vista.
This thread:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=159422
also talks about problems with some Disney DVD's - all of which are...
Looks like Buena Vista's authoring may be the problem as Alias, Scary Movie and Disney all are done by them. Anyone know what they do differently...and more important, is there a way to get them to play on my JVC 701BK?
Not sure whether this should be in the hardware or software area, but I'm assuming it's a hardware related problem.
Last Spring I purchased a new Sony 875P 301 Changer to replace my JVC XV-D701BK player. I moved the JVC up to the bedroom, and use it only occationaly. I decided to try and...
I have another thread related to this topic in the Hardware section: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=159400 But from a software standpoint is there something I should be aware of? Background: I can't play season 1 of Alias on my old JVC 701BK DVD player. It attempts to...
OK - I started off loading the CD's into the unit first to see how much room I was going to use up before I started on the DVD's. After I got done loading them into the changer, I used the "LOAD" button on the front of the unit to hopefully get the changer to recongnize those that had CD-Text or...
I decided to try and find one of the Sony 875P megachangers this past weekend at some of the local stores. On Friday nite, I found one at the local hifi store in the area (Flanner's) along with some open box 870D's. They had the 875P on sale for $459, and the open box 870D's for $249. I...
I ordered Stargate SG-1 Season 2 box set from Direct Video back on Sept. 16th. So far I haven't received it, and I haven't gotten any response from the 2 e-mails I sent to them. The order status just says my order is being "fullfilled", but that hasn't changed for over a month. I know...
I'm waiting on the Samsung SIR-T165 which is an OTA only STB. It has a Component (480i/p) input (DVD), along with (2) S-video and (2) composite I believe. It's "supposed" to convert any of these input to whatever output format you want. Although I have extra component inputs on my RPTV, I only...
