Ultra HD Now 4K’s Official CE Industry Name. Are you going to buy one?

The fact is DVD was never meant to be shown on large home projection setups. BD is more than capable of being a source device on a projector setup. Even with 100" screens at normal distances 10-12ft you are barely on the edge of slightly noticing an improvement in detail with UHD/4K. The...

Ultra HD Now 4K’s Official CE Industry Name. Are you going to buy one?

All 4K or ultraHD or whatever they are calling it is just another attempt by CE makers to make the 'next' thing to make you feel that you 'need' to have it. 1080p is more than adequate even on screens in the 100" to 130" range at normal distances. The problem with the screendoor effect has...

Disney taking a "wait and see" approach on UltraViolet

Plus why is it when I pay the HD premium for some titles my UV copy is limited to SD?

Disney taking a "wait and see" approach on UltraViolet

I don't like all hoops you have to jump through. Plus it kind of defeats the purpose of the it when its hit or miss if your content shows up at one Vudu provider vs another.

Disney taking a "wait and see" approach on UltraViolet

iTunes not embracing UV is because Apple wants you to purchase the content from them. Same reason they haven't adopted BD on their more than capable hardware.

Whatever happened to Ken after he left Universal when HD DVD was deep sixed?

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

I remember when one side had a few titles that had some interactive online features and PiP that they touted until the day format was axed. I always maintained that those were meaningless compared to getting the best video/audio experience possible. The only thing I ever used BD-Live for was...

    3D A few words about...™ 3D -- in Blu-ray

Sorry if I came off a little harshly regarding PC. They didn't rip the projector apart in their review. I just don't like how they rate them all together. The Epsons are brighter but every LCD unit I have seen has a uniformity issue. My old 1080UB had it. I wanted to try an SXRD model and...

    3D A few words about...™ 3D -- in Blu-ray

I don't really care what Projector Central thinks. I had an Epson unit prior and I wanted something other than LCD. I had a Sharp DLP with a 5x color wheel that I could see rainbows with so I didn't want to go back to that technology. The Sony had a good reputation among its owner base and...

    3D A few words about...™ 3D -- in Blu-ray

I went with the Sony HW30ES. It's the current jack of all trades projector. I upgraded from an Epson ProCinema 1080UB. Pretty happy with it. I use it primarily with the Monster/Optoma RF glasses because you can tune some of the ghosting out compared to the Sony glasses.

I want this movie to at least live up to quality that was the first two films in the Alien franchise. I have purposely been avoiding trailers and other coverage of the film.

    3D A few words about...™ 3D -- in Blu-ray

I have spent too darn much on this hobby in the last decade and a half. I now have a 3D projector. I am done with equipment upgrades for a long while. 4K doesn't interest me unless there is an affordable path for native content.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

My point is that 'high-profile' catalog releases are pretty much drying up. We still have some classic Disney titles coming but for the most part BD is going to need the need to power of the new releases to help build the format further. Thankfully 2012 is shaping up to be a pretty strong year...

Thanks Kosty. I don't see any titles that pop out as big as the ones I listed above. I can see why the studios are starting to hint about 4K. They are running out of high profile catalo titles to release. I would say that I would like to see some retries on some of those high profile titles...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

LoA is a title I have thought about owning on BD ever since I got my player in 2006. I bought the Superbit DVD but never did open it. By that time I was realizing how pointless it was buying film content on a low resolution format. I had the original DVD release. That was a nice packaging...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

I think Lucas killed the mystique of Star Wars with the prequels. The younger generation does not view it as the original trilogy v. the prequel trilogy. They just see it as one big movie series. Not saying I wouldn't like to see it but I don't think Lucas will do it considering some of the...

With Jaws, the original Indy films, ET and Lawrence of Arabia coming before the end of the year most likely are there any high demand catalog titles left? Is this the final catalog hurrah?

Did anyone hear that the 3D BD of Titanic is going to be split across 2 discs? That thing is going to look amazing with that much data available for the feature. This is James Cameron we are talking about.

Amir I admire your persistence but you and Penton-man suffer from the same complex. Your ego never allows you to fathom that you may have been wrong or made mistakes. You're infallible to the nth degree. It works in your favor as a marketing man, but as you can see it taints you also in the...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

My final word on Nickerson and this has nothing to do with him personally. I am not attacking him. The fact is he was in a position of power at WHV and he had ties to Toshiba as a former employee. The fact is that Warner's initial support of BD did not start at the WHV level. They were told...

Another possibility for Nickerson exit is he may have seen the end of HD DVD in sight. Had it won with being a former Toshiba employee and proponent of it at Warner his stock as an employee would have gone way up.

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

Amir The industry is giving us 3 to 5Mbps because that was what their infrastructure can support. Its essentially HD lite. They didn't ask consumers what they wanted. They just upped the BR, filtered out all the detail and slapped a HD tag on it. As long as there is no motion it looks okay...

That would be it. Just like they did 3D with the standalone players. Remember all the hype around multiple layer discs. I could see them rolling out another type of disc that is branded under a new type of BD disc. Again similar to how they did 3D. If they try to foist 4K on the same disc...

Amir I found the whole 30G v. 50G argument comical. According to the HD DVD camp 50G was overkill and not reliable. 30G was the sweetspot, but BDs 25G disc wasn't enough. What did that say about HD15 discs. It was just funny how HD DVD fit most everything perfectly. All I have to ask is...

Article on Nickerson's departure I wouldn't so quickly discount the Nickerson info. I am not going to buy Amir's line so quickly. Sure he may left for other opportunities, but really leaving one of the largest home video divisions in favor of Summit? My speculation is that Nickerson was...

Sounds like a nice setup. I recently upgraded to a Sony HW30ES from an Epson 1080UB. I just can't imagine how much better it really needs to be. I entirely agree that I would much rather see an improvement of the optics than a needless resolution increase.
