Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

Well then McAfee is to be commended, because they've managed to do what no other company has done. Its amazing they can have such a high detection rate and consume 2% of the RAM that Norton is using. McAfee is a good program as far as detection rates go...it has one of the highest rates out...

Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

No antivirus program uses less than 1 MB of RAM. Maybe one of the five processes McAfee runs was using that, but no way was the whole shebang using that little. McAfee is the biggest RAM hog there is. http://www.schadentech.com/Reviews/A...conclusion.htm Bloatware to the extreme. Of course...

Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

Actually, according to this page, McAfee has the biggest memory footprint of the programs tested. McAfee was just as annoying to me as NAV. And at least with 8 Ad-aware and Spybot both found things when McAfee was running.

Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

Ron, I wouldn't worry too much about how much it uses. You are going to have a minimum of 2GB, right? I've got 2GB on my Dell XPS, 3.2 GHz P4, and I never have any slowdowns, even if I'm encoding video, ripping CDs and surfing the web at the same time. My big gripes with NAV is how it takes over...

Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

Here's my favorite Norton-ism. I had 2005 installed for a while before I got sick of it. I keep my start menu nice and neat, with five entries under "All Programs"..."Accessories", "Administrative Tools", "Applications", "Games" and "Startup". Norton installs a folder under "All Programs". Guess...

Removing NORTON AV and going to...?

Norton is horrible bloat-/nag-ware and a terrible piece of software. AVG is pretty good, but the detection rate isn't on par with retail products. I prefer AntiVir, though some may not as it doesn't have automatic updates. I prefer to do that myself, so I don't mind. Here are some interesting...

Geting out of a Cell phone contract?

The problem is, they are all like that. It doesn't matter which company it is. I don't understand it. They all act like they have a monopoly, when you can go anywhere else you want once your contract expires. My Sprint is up next month and I'm going Verizon because its supposed to have the best...

    If not a Dell......what?

How configurable are those on the Sony website? I've always wanted one (they do have that "cool" factor) but never seriously looked at it before. edit: Nevermind, those things are seriously underpowered and not very configurable for what they cost.

    If not a Dell......what?

That's one plus for Dell. I have four of them + an Axim. Their customer support stinks, but since I never need it I don't care. The Windows CD they give you doesn't look like a real one, but it is. The only thing that's added is a Dell folder that has a link to the website. Other than that its a...

    Anamorphic "Scream" Available?

I thought the version in the ultimate scream box was anamorphic. Or am I thinking of Scream 2? I remember one of them being only available in the box set as anamorphic, but my box set had the non-anamorphic one. I took it back and got a different one and which movie it was was anamorphic. Wish I...

Thank goodness he isn't only making the movies you want then. Kill Bill Vol. 1/2 was much better than any of previous efforts in my opinion.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Bambi - Absolutely Recommended!!!

Well, my son (10) fell asleep during Bambi, something he doesn't do often. It has nothing to do with the age of the movie either, because he loves Pinocchio and Dumbo. I think Bambi was just quite a bit slower and more artistic than most other animated movies. I admired it, thought it was...

*** Official 2004 Academy Awards Discussion Thread

Sorry, I think LotR is better than any of those. The only that's close is Lawrence of Arabia. Of course, what do I know, Fight Club is my all-time favorite movie. ;)

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Bambi - Absolutely Recommended!!!

I own a large number of the animated Disney DVDs, but there's no way in hell I'd pay money for Lion King II, Lion King 1.5, Aladdin II, ad nauseum. It was bad enough I had to rent Lion King 1.5 because my son wanted to see it. That was a horrible experience...but oddly enough not as horrible as...

*** Official 2004 Academy Awards Discussion Thread

Popcorn film has a connotation of being lightweight, fluffy...kind of like bubblegum music. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but it means to me anyway that its something that doesn't stay with you. LotR was way too emotionally involving to be that to me. That's like saying Lawrence of...

 What? Now you are defensive about Lucas. Did you even read the sentence? Read it again. I said I didn't think anybody but Jackson and maybe Lucas could have used CGI as well as it was used in LotR. Sheez. You can't yelled at for even using Lucas's name now?

Popcorn films? No wonder your ideas are so out of whack compared to the LotR "fans". I'm not sure what movies you watched, but they certainly weren't "popcorn films". How good they were is another question entirely, and certainly open to interpretation. I have my share of problems with the...

*** Official 2004 Academy Awards Discussion Thread

Gee, I wonder why LotR fans get upset and pissy when you make statements like this? The only magic was CGI? There were no real sets, no real costumes, no real weapons, no real anything? It was all CGI? Please. Any decent director couldn't have used the CGI as well as Jackson did, except perhaps...

Of course, a lot of people just didn't care who won. I saw all the best picture nominees, and the first time in several years I didn't think a single one of them deserved it. The Incredibles was better than any of those movies, but of course its "animated" so it isn't a real movie to the academy.

    *** Official SAW Discussion Thread

Nobody expects miracles from every movie they watch. There's a difference between expecting Citizen Kane everytime you watch a movie and at expecting something that at least doesn't insult my intelligence. Saw ripped off every slasher/serial killer movie ever made, and did it badly. It had a...

You know what, I really don't appreciate being called a liar by either one of you. I'm sorry if you didn't figure out the blindingly obvious, but I did and so did my wife. Wow, what an absolutely crappy movie! I high some pretty decent expectations with all the love it had been getting around here, but man what a let down. Hitchhiker's Guide Teaser out!

But that's the thing...the "filmmakers" usually have zero to do with the trailers. Judging the movie in any way shape or form on the trailer is a waste of time. There have been movies in the past that I hated because of the trailer before I decided to stop trying to prejudge the film on it...

    Moulin Rouge! (2001)

I absolutely this movie as well. I have my share of action movies in my collection, but I do have a more varied taste. I actually had to convince my wife to watch it because she hates musicals. "So do I! Aside from this and Grease and some Disney movies that may or may not be categorized as...

:rolleyes:I'm glad none of my four computers seem to be so fragile. I've had, oh about 4 blue screens in the past two years. That's doing everything with them you can imagine...photo editing, image capture, cd ripping, gaming, a 10 year old, etc., etc.

*** Official ALIEN VS. PREDATOR Discussion Thread

Why? It isn't any more ridiculous than what has been shown before. The alien's appearance seems to have to do somewhat with the host. Alien 3 it was a dog, and it ran around on four legs most of the time. Besides, this was just a little in joke for anyone who's played the AvP videogames. I...
