Steve: That's exactly the sort of answer I was looking for when I made this thread the other day: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=215900 Mike an I have a very similar TV. I'm hooking a 5 year old Sony player to it, and DVDs look absolutely incredible. I think I'll hold...
I've had my current player for about 5 years now, and have experienced very few problems with it. It's a Sony DVP-s550d, and I think the only problem has been the occasional audio/video synch problem. I'd been using it with a Sharp 27" TV that finally went out on me a few weeks ago. I...
IMO, a film is only a must have if you enjoy the movie. Regardless of the quality of the video/audio/extras, if you don't like the movie it won't be worth the money. Besides, there are other great films out there with incredible video, sound, and features.
So, let me get this straight: You're alone, on a desert island. You have a TV, DVD Player, and possible a decent speaker setup. Through some sort of miracle, you have electricity. And you're telling me that there will only be ONE dvd there, and that I get to choose that disc? Anyhow...
Nick has it right, Tom has it slightly confused. There will be only 1 5 disc set.
I'll be buying both the 2-disc Widescreen and the 5 disc set. I'd really like to be able to watch the theatrical version and I doubt I'll be able to wait until November to see the film again.
The key is in making changes that while making the new work seem fresh, also remain true to the original work. My favorite moment in Lord of the Rings is when Gandalf captures a moth and whispers to it. A total departure from the book, but it worked. It was both beautiful, and eliminated a...
Whew! I'm glad someone is on my side. I too dislike carbon copies of the source. I enjoyed HP, and had a great time seeing some of the images in my head come to life, but absolutely nothing felt fresh to me. As I said before, Lord of the Rings made neseccary changes to the original story...
I felt that they tried to contain too many scenes from the book, and it suffered because of it. It felt cluttered. Now, take as an example Lord of the Rings. It excised large portions of the text, added in some new scenes that made it flow better as a film, and yet still remained incredibly true...
Gillaim probably doesn't want to work with children again. He's done so in Time Bandits, Baron, and Twelve Monkeys. And judging from his reactions in the Twelve Monkeys documentary, it doesn't look like he enjoys it much.
I dislike stuffy english films just as much as the next guy, but I really enjoyed Gosford Park. It was the only film besides Lord of the Rings that I went back to see again. I enjoyed it the first time, and it got even better during the second viewing. Truely masterful how all the plots and...

Vickie: I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the rest of the story. I hope you have the willpower to hold off on re-reading the books for another year and a half. I know it'll be tough, but I'm going to attempt the same. I originally read the book about 2 years before the film came out, and shortly...
