I agree that the F for Fake DVD is a no brainer, hopefully Criterion will really 'hook us up' with some of the interesting short things that Orson was working on during that time period.
I got my copy yesterday. I'm pretty damn impressed. The video is a bit grainy, but pretty detailed. The audio I liked QUITE a bit more than the reviewer, due to the fact that I was expecting the 2.0 Pro Logic track from the VHS. This is very much worth the effort to import if you like this...
If they hadn't already released the excellent Starship Troopers SE, I'd be all over that one. The DD track is excellent on that one IMO, so I see no reason to upgrade just for that.
Yup, you answered your own question there. Still, it's pretty nice overall. It has some minor compression artifacts (like many early DVDs), but is still worthwhile I feel.
Did you see the link that Jason posted a few before this? Read it, it gives Gandolfini's side of the story. Between the two, I'm much more inclined to believe him. http://www.themediadrome.com/content...sopranos.shtml
From the MSNBC article... "HBO said it had signed Gandolfini to do a fifth and sixth season, though he is also challenging whether the network can hold him to a sixth season." SIXTH SEASON? I hadn't heard they were planning that. Hmmm, I wonder how much this is going to effect the story...
This is comedy. I called the number and gave them my name, and was also told I would receive them 'next week'.
Maybe they should have said on the original form 'please call customer service number listed below in 8-12 weeks for delivery'
I think it just assumes you WANT to buffer the data always (so you can pause live TV, etc). It is about 3 seconds behind truly LIVE broadcasting. There's no way to disable this that I know of. As far as the delay, I've just gotten used to surfing the channel grid, and THEN going to a...
The bitrate is MUCH higher on this new disc that it was on the previous Columbia issue. I also felt there were minor compression problems with the Columbia release that were absent on this new MGM disc. It was worth the $10 I feel to upgrade. Bitrates on Much Ado About Nothing Average...
Ah crap. I just got the disc. It's indeed non-anamorphic, and even though the packaging says region 3, it's not. Also, the letterboxing seems to be pushed up on the screen a bit, giving more room for subs. Thus, those who try to zoom non-anamorphic discs are out of luck. And yes Jeff...
I almost bought it today at BB, but it did NOT say on the package that it was anamorphic, just 'letterboxed'. Now that I know I'm going to have to go back...
Jeff, actually it has NOT been my experience that most US players will output PAL. My old roommate had a front projector and I bought a region 0 PAL disc (a music program DVD). Both my Panasonic and his Sony refused to play the disc (it gave a message that some something like 'This DVD is...
Well, I thought the film was very effective in what it was trying to do. It's not pure drama, suspense, or sci-fi--but it has elements of all of those films. I think many people (some already said so above) will be bored with 'Signs' because its pace, and not like the ending. I was not one...
I saw Signs last night, so I think I can react to what some are saying here. Firstly, do NOT go into this film thinking you are going to see a Sci-Fi film. It just isn't that type of film, the focus is on the main characters and their experience, and is a rather 'personal' film in that regard...
