Ed, oops.. thanks for pointing that out. I thought I was buying this player for just that reason of it being able to decode both of the HD audio formats. So far , since hooking up my new S550, I've been treated to hearing each format. The TrueHD track on "Eagle Eye" and the DTS-HD track on...
I have my Sony S550 connected using the analog outs into my DSP-A1 analog in's. Doesn't the S550 decode the signal for both the TRUEHD & DTS HD tracks ?
I did a few things yesterday that definately helped in the audio dept. on my system. First I reduced the level going to the mains from the S550 speaker menu by 3-4 db., then I removed the spikes that my KLF-20's were standing on, and then what really made a huge difference to the overall low end...
I dialed down my level in the mains by 5 db or so, and switched my subs xover from out to in and man what a difference! I replayed a few of the chase scenes from Eagle Eye and man my sub came alive and there was no distortion even playing it louder than I did last night. I'm lovin it! TroyH
Guys, Well, I enjoyed my very first BR title last night on my new Sony BDP-S550 ! We watched Eagle Eye and it was quite a ride ! I could definately tell the improved quality of the high def picture. And the sound was pretty incredible too. My only complaint was during a few of the action...
I finally got a BR player (SONY BDP-S550) this past week. I hooked it up using the 5.1 ch. analog outputs into my Yamaha DSP-A1. I did go through the speaker setup settings and went through the initial audio settings. Last night I finally got around to watching my BR title which was EAGLE EYE...
Just watched this one last night with the family. This was my very first BR title watching after I purchasing my new Sony BDP-S550 BR player. I thought I'd calibrated the levels in each speaker but during some of the more intense action scenes, My front mains wanted to distort a little or...
Okay Scott, that helps. thanks I will do that tonight. After I have the volume knob dialed in at 75db on my receiver , I won't touch the volume knob anymore. Then go into the S550 audio settings for tone /level and adjust each channel's output . The settings for each speaker in the S550 speaker...
Scott, when you say... set your receiver's volume level to reference level, ...... what would I be playing or hearing out of the receiver to get it to this point as reference. Do I use it's internal test tones and set it to 75 db and then go into the s550 and then adjust from there ? thanks.
Hey Jeff, I'm in the same boat as Gary is. I finally got my S550 yesterday from Amazon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got it hooked up , went through the audio settings menu and did get sound from each channel using the test tone process. MY question too is, Now that my S550 IS GOING to be doing to...
Well, I finally received my S550 from Amazon yesterday. Hooked it up using the HDMI to projector and I'm using the 5.1 ch. analog outs going to my yamaha DSP-A1 5.1 ch. analog ins. I went through the setup for audio settings and got a tone out of each speaker which I was happy about. My...
We all know how amazing Saving Private Ryan sounds in DTS on standard dvd. But man, how much better can it sound on blu-ray? My picks are : Saving Private Ryan BTTF (first one) Tombstone Open Range The Abyss Titanic Smokey and the Bandit Roadhouse Sixteen Candles Pretty in Pink...
Ed, that's good stuff. I'll see how the analog in connections sound and go from there too I guess. A friend of mine let me borrow his digital SPL meter so I plan on setting each channel to 75db , setting the speaker distances, etc. Man, this thing can't get here quick enuff :frowning: update...
So Ed, a few tweaks here and there in the player's setup menu and I should be good to go. At least that's what it appears you did for your friend's Denon receiver. Did you disconnect the optical connection once you got the sound right using the analog in connection all balanced out? Did you...
I ended up canceling my purchase of my SONY BDP-S550 at HHGREGG last night (on backorder and no idea when they'll be receiving more in) and bought one online from Amazon.com for $270.79 ($11.99 shipping). Should arrive in 2-3 days. And I saved $34.00 ! TroyH
Mike , Charlie and everyone else on this thread, thanks for all your help and input. I'd already have this thing installed, setup, and enjoying it but like I said, HHGREGG store says they are backordered. I look forward to moving up from standard dvd (as much as I've enjoyed them) to Blu-Ray...
Mike, I think I know what to do when I get the S550 hooked up (currently on backorder at HH gregg :frowning: ). But can you walk me thru it just in case. I've been out of the loop for awhile and this whole BR thing is quite new to me. I believe I understand that when I use my yammy's analogs...
MIKE: Thanks for the clarification and two cents. So two questions. Now that you have all your audio coming out of the BD-10 via analog outs, can you discern a difference between your old connection of dig. coax vs. now how you have it hooked up which is now thru your analog 5.1 outs?? What...
Charlie: Right now when DD is used as the soundtrack, I get a display on my front DSP-A1 window showing Dolby Digital Normal with the AC3 indicator on and also the same goes when playing a standard dvd that has DTS I will get the DTS Digital Surround wording and the DTS indicator. If I continue...
Charlie: so help me understand, when ever I would play a standard dvd w/ 5.1 DD, the bitstream will travel through the analog in cables instead of the dig. coax ? Is this correct? Will there be any difference in sound quality or better you think? thx for clarifying, TroyH
Finally got hdmi cable ran from my rack area to my projector tonight. Now I'm just need to pick up my br player from HH gregg as soon as it gets in. I had another question that popped into my head. Since I'll be playing standard dvd's in the BR player, do I still need to run my dig. coax...
When I get my BR player hooked up, I wanted to use one of the older video/audio calibration discs to help calibrate my picture on my Mitsibishi HC-1500. A friend of mine let me borrow his "outdated" Digital Essentials calibration disc. Am I wasting my time using this older calib. disc Or should...
Mike F: Thanks, I'll look be on the lookout for soundtrack options found on the BR's. BTW, any idea what the difference is between the DD plus track and the Dolby TrueHD track ? Thx, Th.
Hey DAVE F: I too am glad I bought my flagship Yamaha DSP-A1 10 years ago. Would have never thought I would ever use the analog inputs on it but now's the perfect opportunity to use them. To take advantage of the lossless soundtracks. Also prevents me from going out and buying up a new receiver...
Well,, I plopped down the cash yesterday at HHGregg to buy the Sony S550. They priced matched it to Amazon.com for me since i mentioned it to them I ordered my 25 ft. HDMI cable from blue jeans cable.com Friday. Should be putting things together sometime this week and then tweaking my...
Mike, awesome! I can't wait to hear my setup when I get the BR Sony player hooked up and tuned in. I'm still impressed with how my system sounds with plain vanilla 5.1 lossy soundtracks. I guess I'm in for a treat with the improved lossless higher codec BR soundtracks to come! So mike, right...
Mike, that is so encouraging! Thanks for the insight. I should be getting my player in about a week and I look forward to hooking everything up , resetting levels and hopefully I'll be enjoying the lossless audio tracks like yourself. I'll respond back after my first BR experience! TroyH
