    Isolating speaker mounts

I'm working on a project for a client who's SO insists that the speakers be bracket mounted to the walls. They live in an apartment building where I can tell just from the few times I have been there, that there will be a "noise issue" from the neighbors. Does anyone know of a source of sound...

Amp ideas for aura bass shakers pro?

I've been very happy using an AudioSource Amp Two to power an array ( well, actually, two arrays ) of bass Shakers ( 14 in all ). I chose Audiosource due to it's ability to handle low impedance loads without complaining ( and it was cheap ).

My sub sounds better after EQ'ing it using the BFD, but...

I think part of the "issue" comes from people going to concerts and feeling that "chest pounding bass" and then thinking "that's what great bass is". But that's not what great bass is. It's what bass that's more easily produced in a large venue and "thrown" a reasonable distace from the source...

Bottoming a tempest with 250w amp

After the point at which the enclosure "unloads", a little signal ends up causing a lot of cone motion ( although not producing many SPLs ). As a result sending signals to a sub below that point, can easily bottom the driver, even at levels blow their "power rating".

I'm not sure if it's in full release. I DL'd the demo version ( fileplanet ). But I just can't figure out how to use these #@!^&%&$# wire cutters one you pick 'em up !!!

'Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza' for the PC! Where the hell did this come from?!?!?!

Ok, stupid question: I can't figure out for the life of me how to use the wire cutters once you get them after killing all the terrorists in the first level ( 39th floor ). Any hints ?

Move over Behringer, there's a new player in town!

I played with one briefly - some things: The only way of altering the settings is thru the rs-232 port. This means you have to have your PC pretty close to your HT rig to set up the filters ( once set, you don't need to use the PC to operate it ). For my purposes, it made it too hard to use...

Dare you to find a FBD for sale (in stock)!

This is a fairly typical Behringer problem. They do production runs for a while, and then POOF. I think the same thing happened around this time last year. One week places were dumping them for $135, the next the few places that have on want $225, then no one has one.

"This control was taken out of my hands and placed into the hands of a mix engineer! ". Ok, Mr Maskeeper, just ake a deep breath, and lie back. Now, tell me, how do you feel about that ? Dr. Sigmund Schmencke. :)

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

Well, Vince, I guess that begs the question: has anyone "looked at" the two discs with an RTA to see if this is the case ? I absolutely agree with your premise, I'm just a little bit more of a sceptic in that I don't believe what I'm told anymore by studio people about how discs are mixed. In...

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

Vince, Hey, this is the point I have been arguing all along !!!! I think the idea of a separate LFE channel is more a "romantic concept" than a technical necessity, and often causes more problems than it solves. Having to deal with the myriad combinations which ensue, I feel that "bass...

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

David Tallen, I actually use dynamic range expansion. i find it allows me to listen at a lower "general" volume, but still get the loud passages to "sing". Wayne/Vince, Is the 10bd "headroom" ( daylight sayings time for bass ? ) really necessary ? Are there levels of bass on discs that would...

"Now that you have challenged me about the "40hz = Large" spec, I can't seem to find where I saw that published.... but I'm still working on it!!!". it's not hard to imagine that in a system where the frequency response of the system ( sub included ) is only supposed to go down to 35Hz and then...

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

Wayne, Perhaps we can get a few of the fellows who have been posting graphs to test that on a bunch of discs. My bet is that you won't find that theory to hold up in practice. If that were actually the case, however, just about everyone who has their speakers set to "large" probably has a...

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

I guess I have to agree with Vince, but still disagree at the same time. If the LFE channel were used "properly", I wouldn't want it "gone". However, as long as the 2.0 downmix needs to be done "sans LFE", the discs will need to be mixed the way they are. Perhaps what I am really advocating is a...

I have two words for you...Bass Management UPDATED!

Timmy, Absolutely. and to some extent my point. it's a duplication of the signal, and redundancy is the opposite of "discrete" to a large extent.

Robert George, "It has been suggested (but not confirmed) that the master Universal used for the JP/LW DVDs was mixed with some of the LFE mixed into the left/right main channels to improve the 2-channel downmix. This is not incorrect, per se." So if Mr. Dressler is right, this whole thread is...

    Amp question for Vince M.

"That's a good point: but what a headache if you have to cross rent." Not really. We always kept a few adapters around, and if we knew we were going to need them it would only take 10 minutes to make a patch cord.

    Amp question for Vince M.

Wayne, I'm not disagreeing that it's a good idea, I just don't personally like the Speakon connectors. As you can see, I am advocating using something other than the standard, for a lot of the same reasons that you are.

    Amp question for Vince M.

That's basically the same thing. They were great for several reasons: 1) Nobody else used them, which was good when we were at a gig where there were multiple rigs being used ( no one could claim any of our stuff was theirs, nor would they have any reason to want to !! ). 2) Since they are...

    Amp question for Vince M.

Well, I think I found the three prong version: Hubbell Insulgrip Twistlock HBL4729C plugs & HBL4716 flanged inlets. PS The cords we used had two female plugs. The speaker had a flanged inlet. The back of the amp rack had a board with rows of flanged inlets, which were wired to the backs of the...

    Amp question for Vince M.

It's similar to that, but not exactly. I think that I've seen them used recently by "movie guys" for A/C power cables to connect to the sides of "power trailers" with geneerators inside. there are rows and rows of these on the side of the trailers. usually they are three prong, where the prongs...

    Amp question for Vince M.

the connectors that I used to use were intended of AC power, and you could get up to 4 "leads" on them, they were white plastic, round and you would plug them into a cooresponding "cup" on the speaker end ( the cup was actually the "male", with the prongs recessed, and the wire termination was...

    Amp question for Vince M.

"(their worst amp of all times, IMHO, goes to the POWER BASE series!). " It's funny, because I always ( consciously ? subconsciously ? ) don't even consider those as Crown amps. It's my gut feeling that they were always intended as musical instuments amplifiers ( really bass gutiar amps ) that...

    Amp question for Vince M.

I've been using Crown amps for about 25 years and I think the CE's are one of my least favroites of all time. I guess Crown is finally feeling the pressure to compete at a lower price point ( for a long time they never really did ). I don't have much hands on experience with these particular...
