My wife and I went to see The Good Shepherd this evening. Anyone expecting a typical Damon, De Niro, Jolie film will be disappointed. The same if you're expecting a spy thriller. Yes, this movie could have been cut down to 90 minutes but I think the "extra" stuff is in there for a reason. I...
Wow, that was incredibly funny. Did you think of it yourself? Movies like this will flourish as long as there are 14 year olds (maturity wise) who can sneak in to to see them or rent them.
While it seems HT enthusiasts want the DVD's to recreate the theatrical performance in our home theaters, most DVD reviews pay little or no attention to comparing the video and audio of the DVD with that of the theatrical version. I can understand why because of the difficulty remembering the...
I use an Audio Source (same model I believe) to power my Eminent Technologies LFT-8a's through a HK 525. I'm very satisfied. But then again I'm one of those heretics who believes watts is watts and baring audible distortion, I'm not going to notice the difference between a $300 source of power...
Out of ideas? Why bother coming up with new ideas when you can just put out movies like King Kong and Superman again and watch people flock to see them. Prop Adam Sandler (or other SNL alum) up in front of a camera and watch 'em show up. As long as they make enough money from rehashing...
It's rare for me to chime in on a thread only to say I didn't like a movie. I didn't like this movie so much, I thought I'd make an exception. I really didn't like this movie.
I've only seen the previews, but some of the play seems to be a bit more modern then what I thought was common during that era. I started watching college basketball in the 70's. Other then Pistol Pete, I don't recall very many players who "showed off". The previews showed one behind the...
DVD transfers, IMO, should accurately reflect what was presented in the theaters, warts and all. It seems that many reviewers base their opinions solely on what they perceive to be a quality picture. I can't say I blame them, however, because I seriously doubt many (if any) can accurately...
I was responding to the quote that the sound was "fantastic", no qualifiers for age, simply fantastic. I listed some DVD's that I might consider using such a label and disagreed. After reading more high praise for the audio here ("excellent") and elsewhere, I listened to it again yesterday...
It sounds okay to me, not nearly as good as his NYC or Barcelona DVD's, or either Eagles, Roger Waters, on and on. I think it was a bit below much of last years Led Zep DVD as well. IMHO of course and as I said, it didn't affect my enjoyment in the least.
After seeing the DVD, reading comments here and dozens of other places, I'm getting the feeling that Dylan was/is a very gifted poet who can morph his thinking and words in boundless directions. But as a philosopher, political or otherwise, he may not be much deeper then the paper the lyrics are...
I agree, I would rank that right under making movies people want to see. It's a balance. The more I want to see a movie, the more likely I am to endure some "discomfort" (and vice versa).
I've been a casual Dylan fan since the late sixties. I enjoyed his lyrics a lot, not so much because of any deep, political or hidden meanings, but rather the flow and the way he phrased things. I had heard he wasn't political, but never paid much attention or even cared one way or the other...
I think advent of TV had a far greater impact then improving home theater technology will ever have. Much like advent of the car had a greater impact then improving the horsepower or MPG. In that sense it is apples and oranges. For the general public going to the movies is an "event" of which...
I'm answering the question, "why don't I go to movie theaters as much as I used to or would otherwise." Understand that I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who's aged well beyond the marketing types target audience, despite the fact that I've got more disposable income than any 20...
Also one of all time favorites and coincidentally I was thinking about getting this just the other day. No Blockbuster in my area carries it though. How is the transfer?
I'll echo others. For me it's a combination of the cost, the crowds and the sometimes annoying people in the theater. Add that to the fact I have a home theater and I don't go to the theaters as much as I used to. As far as the "quality" of the movies, I don't see a big change over the past...
Regarding the quality of a transfer. Is the transfer supposed to match the theatrical release? If not, why not? If so, how do you compare them other than by months old memory? I'm an old fart and have zero memory of the video "quality" when I saw it in the theater, heck, I can't even remember...
You're right, damn movie logic. I'm going down to my theater and throw away 95% of my movies now. Except of course ESB, cause that's got none of that bad movie logic in it. ;) Each of us have our own thresholds for what we're willing to accept/ignore in terms of "movie logic". Just as each of...
I understand and perhaps I was a bit strong. What I'm trying to say is it's ultimately his decision and if he has the luxury of listening to alternative speakers he should trust his ears first.
This is good advice for any speaker purchase. One thing you should keep in mind is that it is you that has to pay for them and listen to them, not the members of this forum. To be honest, if you are going to buy from a B&M, I'm not sure why you would consider any other opinions other than...
I disagree, this is the other extreme and equally unrealistic to believe it's true. The truth lies somewhere in between. I have no problems with using technology to prevent free loaders from...well...free loading. People should be free to make copies for their personal use, however. What's...
