One difference I noticed with regards to the Dolby Digital vs. DTS track....Alison does allot of talking between some songs; this dialog, which can barely be heard on the DTS version, can be heard and understood on the Dolby Digital version. JIm
This concert is playing on the country music network tomorrow. I saw it yesterday on a different station. Before I even finished watching the concert, I place my order for the DVD. I agree, Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel. Jim
I bought the Yamaha C920. I paid $350 from a local B&M. It has the Farjouda chip, and also has an option to turn off the video signal, while listening to audio CD's. I bought this player for it's video capabilities, and have been very pleased. I haven't listened to any audio CD's on the...
I buy it, because I'm still a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals:b. They (the Bengals) stink so much, you hardly ever get to see them play in the Western part of the U.S. I think the highest I've paid (till now) is $129.99. Jim
Is it just me or has the price of NFL Sunday Ticket, been raised substantially? I don't believe I paid over $129.99 last year, this year it's $179.99. Oh well, they did include two pretty good coupons with my mailer...one was for a free PPV movie, the other was for a $179.99 DirecTIVO unit...
I believe you're talking about Sonys first DVD player, right (DVP-7000)? If so, I'd suspect the audio (cd playback) will be much better than that of the RP-82. I would assume the RP-82 to have a much better video picture, but you'd need an HD-TV to take full advantage. I have the DVP-7000 on...
I just bought the C920. I bought it at a local BM store for $349.00. I like the player except for the fact that you can't change the brightness, contrast, sharpness, or color controls (on the player) if your using the player in progressive scan mode. Jim
Since I can't find any user information on this player, I'm assuming it's new. Does anyone know if this player includes/ uses the Farjouda video chip? Thanks, Jim
Just picked up a copy of EBYT SACD at Bestbuy. The SACD was $15.99 and the DVD-A version was $24.99. Are DVD-A discs generally more expensive than SACD? Jim
I bought the Sony '715. I also tried the Panasonic '62 but didn't like the cheap remote;however, the Panasonic did seem to have a clearer picture than the Sony. Jim
I originally got into the pre-pro game because I was tired of buying recievers. It seems as though I'm still buying because my B&K wasn't really upgradable (at least not to the level of a new model). I do wonder if there are any pre-pro's out there that are truely upgradable to have the same...
I bought my B&K Reference 10 in December of 1997. Last January I upgraded the unit to a Reference 20+ (at a cost of ~$1000). Keep in mind, the Reference 20+ does not have all the features (like THX processing, component switching, etc.) that the Reference 30 does. I'm considering buying a new...
KeithH and Michael: Okay. Good points...I'll limit my comment to video playback only. Still, if someone wanted to spend $1200.00 and audio playback was a major concern, wouldn't the current recommendation be to spend $600.00 on the Sony C555ES SACD player and the other $600.00 on a good...
Michael: I agree with you that the fall 2003 date may not be set in stone, but if we see players by that time frame, I wouldn't call it a miracle. People have already posted photos of these players from trade shows. My understanding is that the current DVD library is supposed to play (i.e...
This has probably already been mentioned but....whatever you buy, be prepared to replace it when HD-DVD comes out. I remember reading in a magazine, that HD-DVD is expected to be available in the fall of 2003. Jim
KeithH: Amazon.com has him listed under their "popular music" section. Amazon.com includes some music samples. My favorite CD by Doug Smith is "Order of Magnitude." Jim
KeithH: You're right. Whenever I have Oade Bros. perform my upgrade, I'm putting allot of faith in them that my warranty will not be voided. I guess if I ever need repairs, and those performing the repairs question the modification (i.e. state that my warranty is void because of the...
One more thing to add concerning the C555ES....When I bought my unit, Oade Bros. told me, with a minor modification, they can make the C555ES sound very close to the 777ES. They only perform the upgrades on machines purchased from them. Supposedly the upgrade does not void the Sony 5 year...
This accoustic guitar CD is back in print. I saw it for sale at Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com. I have had this CD for over 7 years and it seldom leaves my player. I first came across this disk in 1995. A friend of mine bought it at a resale shop, and I looked for three months to find a copy...
Luis: I didn't experience the problem while using the coax output. I have a B&K preamp, that makes you choose between digital coaxial inputs and 6 channel analogue direct inputs. When I bought my SACD player, I was forced to use the optical inputs for all my digital sources. I didn't...
Luis: I agree the picture is superb on the DVDQ50. It's the optical (audio) output that I have a problem with. I've experienced this on two separate units DVDQ50's, as well as, with my Directivo unit. Did you use the optical output of the DVDQ50? Did you hook it up to a decent amplifier...
My advice is to stay away from Philips. I have a Philips Directivo unit and a DVDQ50, both make "popping" noises in my system. However, I am using amplifiers (185 watts per channel). If you're using a lower wattage receiver, you may not notice. I believe they have a problem with their optical...
